Grimtale Island

Grimtale Island

Grimtale had a shaky start with its first iteration and in all honesty I suspected some kind of scam, however I’m delighted that the developer has proved me 100% wrong, he has rebuilt Grimtale Island (the original game was lost by mistake) and has done so very quickly, it must have been hard to start all over again, but he’s done it.

The updates for Grimtale are coming in thick and fast, the developer is talented, friendly, helpful, honest, responsive and he listens to feedback.

The game itself, amongst a myriad of other zombie-survival/crafting/building games manages to set itself apart, with an attractive low-poly art style. The level of polish is impressive for a game in early access. Obviously there are bugs, some rough edges and features to be added but I have absolute faith that all these issues will be addressed in time.

This is the 16th review of the Steam Redlight series, a series where I purposely seek out negatively or controversially rated games on Steam to see if they’re as bad as the Internet says they are. It’s accompanied by a video review that can be found here .

In summary, I cannot recommend this game, while it does have some basic gameplay elements introduced for an open-world survival game, it doesn’t quite cross the threshold into justifying a price-point for a game that’s unfinished and no longer in development according to the developer’s post from August ‘19.

Security Guy vs AI: The Dawn of AI

Security Guy vs AI: The Dawn of AI

“Security Guy vs AI” is a really nice top-down shooting game!

The game is far from be great, but it is good enough for a free game, it is short but with nice graphics. The enemy AI is not very challenging, but I struggle more with the aiming in game, especially with some of the weapons.

But is playable and enjoyable! And best of all, is free… Fully recommend it.

This one is hard. I say yes with some slight reservations. The game is not very optimized. It lags quite a bit, even when you turn the settings down. That being said, it looks good. There is hardly no story, but it is still good what is there. It is very deadly combat, but if you know how to properly shoot (The target is a bit to the right of your actual aim.) it isn’t too hard. It is very short but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Overall I enjoyed it very much. Hopefully once I get a better computer it won’t lag so bad. I haven’t replayed it yet so I will update this review after that to reflect its replay value.

So the game initally starts off with really fuzzy graphics. If you fix the resolution size, it will make the graphics manageable. From there, the difficulty is what you make it. If you want it really hard, it gets really hard. It is fun with friends for sure. I think it’s worth the try, and it has a lot of potential.

A fun new early access game that currently has 4 different puzzles of increasing difficulty. Excited for the levels that will be progressively releasing over time that will all have their own levels of difficulty. There are some bugs but the game is very new and the devs are good at repairing the bugs quick, especially if you report any bugs directly. Overall I really enjoy the aesthetic and can’t wait to see what it will be like further into development.

Growing game with a fun premise. Devs are very open to communication and work on bugs immediately. Helped test and watched every issue I reported, those that hindered game play be treated as high priority.

KHIO

KHIO

The game is fun in between various glitches, crashes, lag, etc.

It is really a fun game with a lot of content, good art, and more, but problems like I have listed above make it frustrating to play, because it could ruin your entire save. The Devs have also abandoned the game, so I don’t believe any of these will be fixed.

  • In english:

KHIO is to me a new kind of game: pixel art mixed with kind of 3D… Even if the sprites are in 2D, you can totally turn the camera 360°.

I’m not gonna tell you the plot, as it’s pretty obviously done on the store page.

The game interface is minimal and actually blends into the scenery (maybe a bit too much sometimes, but the devs are sorting this out, improving its lisibility).

Here, we’re not hand held: you’ll have to experiment, die, and finally figure things out before evolving with more ease.

Knighty Night

Knighty Night

Knighty Night is a fantastic game that can be completed within a few hours. The fascinating story that follows a brave night traversing through four different parts of a haunted land, fighting ghosts and the traps they set up to keep the knight from defeating the evil that plagues the area. Unlike many indie games that stick to a 2D style, this game takes full advantage of Unity by pushing 3D graphics, animations, and a birds eyes camera to follow the player. Not only does the game look beautiful, it sounds beautiful. Every sound in the game plays perfectly with what it is complimenting on screen. But if you like your game silent, this game has the ability to silence just the SFX, Music, or both if that’s what you’re into. Like the sound, this game has video settings that allows your game to be windowed, fullscreen, and different resolutions so no monitor will feel left out.
