Jiangshi x Daoshi

Jiangshi x Daoshi

I absolutely love this game! It uses a refreshing mix of static avatars & backgrounds, with frequent animation and motion comic action panels reminiscent of Dead Leaves. This gives the game an extremely dynamic feel, which makes up for the lack of choices. Like many Visual Novels, heavy emphasis is on the word Novel, as such, interaction in this game is mostly limited to hunting for words that the in-game hover-dictionary may explain for you.

Jiangshi X Daoshi boasts a rich story packed with fantastic Chinese mythology/historical information, with a wholesome dynamic between the main characters.

Please be mindful that this is the censored version uploaded to steam.

I wish to bring awareness to this. Apparently this VN was banned upon submission because of certain scenes and they’ve fought tooth and nail the bring it back for us to enjoy. Bans usually mean end of the line for most games from what I have heard. I’ve went back in to check most of these scenes and they aren’t even close to becoming questionable. I really enjoyed Trials and Traces: The Tomb of Thomas Tew, an earlier game by this developer, Because Because. It’s not available on Steam as of the writing of this review, but it is available over on itch.io. It was a nice little gem within a collection of other independent adventure games, with turned out to be a great purchase, because it put games like Death Has a Million Stomping Boots and Beard in the Mirror on my radar.

When Because Because released Detective Boiled-Hard, I jumped on it right away. This game is a bit on the shorter side, clocking in at about 90 minutes of play – but it’s a solid and enjoyable (and fully voice-acted!) 90 minutes. Detective Boiled-Hard never once pretends to be a serious game of any sort. It fully embraces bad jokes, self-referential humor, so-bad-they’re-amazing celebrity impersonations, and insane situations.

Alien Function

Alien Function

Fun game with great story line and good puzzles ranging from easy to very challenging. Very very linear but the story line was engaging enough to want to keep on the ride. Really brought me back to the experiences i had playing Kings Quest, Police Quest, etc series way back in the day (showing my age now).

no hints, this game is bad.

i really wanted to see the end of this, but it’s just a ‘‘click everything until something works’’

also, the only alien you will see is on the title screen.

Jerma & Otto: The Curse of the Late Streamer

Jerma & Otto: The Curse of the Late Streamer

Before this game, my only real Jerma exposure was the dollhouse stream… so I’m writing this review from the POV of somebody that just wants a fun game. And I gotta say - I really feel like Curse of the Late Streamer delivers.

The puzzles are never overly challenging, and I say this as someone who generally sucks at point-and-clicks. Everything feels fair. And here’s my advice if you get stuck on a puzzle: just go do something else. There’s plenty to explore and work towards.

It is really really cool how much original art is in this game, too. Characters that are (presumably, again I am a newcomer) all drawn from Jerma lore? 3D environments that both evoke old-school game memories and feel like a real (virtual) space that this guy could live in? The dog is adorable?? Seriously, such an impressive amount of effort.

MAN STANDING

MAN STANDING

If you like weird and odd games, this one may interest you… Supposedly you are the last person on the planet and you are to find something ( at this point I dont even know what Im looking for).. you end up walking all over the surface and you will see statues of dogs, humans, pianoes and boxes… lots and lots of boxes with an “energy” beam streaching skyward of different lengths. Inside the boxes are the “last words” of the individuals who placed them there…. texts from meaningless code to words of wisdom to nasty insults can be read from the boxes. As you travel across the surface the statues have a “sensor” that projects a minimovie into your mind, most of them are bizzare clips from the early years of movie making. You also are to go to a newer modern bunker type building to activate the unit and mark your presence with a hologram. Once done you set off to the next place… If you pay attention, you will notice a disturbance in the air, a dome can be seen via the shifting of the energy streams coming off the boxes, these domes are protected by “Air sharks”. The “weapon” they use is a wad of goo ( mucus?) to slow your movements to a crawl, your defence from the air sharks is a handfull of shit ( I kid you not) you throw the handfull of shit at the shark and it turns to smoke… The best method of handling the onslot of the sharks is to walk backwards and force thee sharks to follow you. Being in this position you can throw the shit with better accuracy. So, when the sharks attack, walk backwards and start slinging da poo… As I said, its a strange game, slow travel time and a bit of a challenge with the sharks. Oh yeah, almost forgot, when traveling up the face of steep cliffs, rapidly tap the spacebar while moving in the direction of choice, when done fast enuf you will float as if you are wearing a jet pack. for 99cents its an okay game… the real question is, do you want to tie up the disk space to play it?

MAN STANDING

is truly the gem of 2019. This game is probably the greatest game to ever exist. This is not an exaggeration. ALFINA has really blown it out of the park with this one. It is truly a unique experience.

Story

The player will have to shoulder the heavy burden of the only surviving person in the world who, in a fit of schizophrenic delirium, walks to places that hold memories of untimely people who left this world.

The story is excellent. It is written by the literary genius ILYA KOGIMBOVICH (sorry if I spelled it wrong) where it really questions one’s moral standing in a morally gray world. It is quite deep, philosophical and thought provoking, leaving us with some very important questions. I shall not spoil it for you in this review, you must experience it yourself to truly understand the masterpiece. However I must warn you, the story may not be understood by everyone. The writing is on the level of Rick and Morty, so you know for sure that the game is meant for the geniuses in our time.

Purrfect Date - Visual Novel/Dating Simulator

Purrfect Date - Visual Novel/Dating Simulator

As of writing this review I am 29 hours in and I intend to increase that number. Wow, where to start… I have played a few dating sims in my time but none of them have captivated me like this one. None.

Purrfect Date is a combination of a dating sim and a visual novel.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD! I do try my best to not mention the most important ones however.

Story and gameplay

I won’t say too much to spoil things for you but what I will tell you is that the story can and will change based on the decisions you make. At first the story seems overly cheerful with humor and action sprinkled on top. You are a scientist arriving on Cat Island to act as the professors research assistant. It is your decisions that truly make this story interesting as things get dark, very dark. Each person seems to notice it at different times but they are always there to notice providing you know where to look.

Unfortunately it happened sooner than I expected but I’m going to write my first negative review:( Every time I start playing a new game I’m so excited, I never presume anything negative. In this case I really thought everything would be just purrfect: a visual novel + dating sim + cats!!! But…

At first I really enjoyed the game and all those lovely cats! You have 6 characters (3 male & 3 female) to choose from but you have to take them all to date all six cats. You are free to match them the way you like. And that was so awesome! You can experience pure romantic love without any prejudices and borders. The couples can be of any gender, they fall in love being a human and a cat. That was really new and I like it a lot! I’ve played some otome games before where pets turn into humans. Being a huge animal lover I still believe the idea is the best possible for such games) I’m personally a big fan. But here you realize that it doesn’t really matter. Love is too strong to mind any limitations!

James Peris 2: La fuente de la eterna embriaguez

James Peris 2: La fuente de la eterna embriaguez

James Peris, the rookie secret agent 00.5 is back! He will have to solve no more and no less than two missions; yes, TWO missions in one game. Hence the 2 in the title…

This time Peris will have to deal with a mafia boss and get the lost necklace of Sant Angelo, one of the jewels created by Leonardo Da Vinci. At the same time, he will have to find the mythical Holy Great Beer, a legendary artifact forgotten for centuries. Why leave such important missions to someone so incompetent? We have no such answer.

Spirit of Midnight

Spirit of Midnight

Spirit of Midnight is a charming adventure game. Play as a house cat who gains the ability to leave home and embark on a supernatural adventure after encountering a strange spirit. Befriend a badger and meet other adorable creatures along the way, all in an effort to restore balance to the forest and uncover the truth behind its mysteries.

Use and combine items in your inventory to solve situational puzzles in humorous ways. Sit back, interact, and be entertained. Professionally scored with original music and nighttime vibes. Controller play recommended.

Code/The Werewolf Party

Code/The Werewolf Party

Functionally, as a game, Code/The Werewolf Party is a notch lower than “fine.” The game works, it doesn’t look like trash - except for the UI garbage discussed below - and there aren’t any major show-stopping bugs.

The biggest issue with this game is that nothing stands out. As a result, I don’t think it’ll attract much of a playerbase other than a few teens farting around every once in a while. There’s an AI, but it’s not very good: the same characters keep repeating the same (random?) things, and votes don’t seem to have any kind of effect on the final outcome.

this game is on par with the likes of mafia, town of salem, one night ultimate werewolf, secret hitler and mindnight. No, it completely outclasses those games. Pick a character from generic boy or generic girl and have to pay money to make them your OC dream, Play the groundbreaking tutorial so meta that it just puts you in a game to learn from the groundup, and play with amazing bots so good, that all they do is talk once and die, just like in all other games! Lose every game but get a sweet sweet compensation of 50 gold, so every game feels like a true win to you. Pick from the massive language base of vietnamese or english. If you like worse town of salem, and in general worse social deduction, this game might just be right up your alley.
