The Mystery of the Druids

The Mystery of the Druids

I received Mystery of the Druids as a gift from my dad years ago when it first came out, before Steam existed. Back then, I didn’t have any trouble running the game and I honestly loved it. When this came out on Steam, I had to buy it. I had lost my disks several years ago. I wish I could say I wholeheartedly believe this is a great game. But the reality is, unless you are playing this on an older OS or tweaking the crap out of your current computer, this game is practically unplayable. Constant errors and crash to desktop for people who are running OSs like Windows 7, 8, and 10. There are some workarounds and patches, but overall, this game is still buggy and unplayable to most people. The company that made them doesn’t exist anymore and when we do get updates for this game, it’s rare and sparse.

An okay game with retro graphics and game play. Basic point and click. Reasonably interesting storyline.

Downsides were puzzles that I found to be illogical and puzzles you couldn’t solve without backtracking a long way and playing hunt the pixel after finding out (from a walkthrough) that you failed to pick up something critical several scenes ago (I’m looking at you - piece of wire!).

A bit too much ‘hunt the pixel’ for my liking and with the game providing no hints, too many of the puzzles were just too abstract (try combining everything with everything else regardless of how bizarre, then with every clickable object in every scene, some of which are incredibly difficult to find, and each time have an annoying and unhelpful audio that you can’t click to skip). I ended up needing a walkthrough to get through a number of areas and I hate that (a few once you become really stuck is okay, this was way too many and involved heaps of backtracking).

BAD END

BAD END

Hello Everyone,

I have inevitably gotten a “Bad End” in developer Arai Koh Create Office’s game “Bad End”. The Cursed Shadow is upon me and these are my final moments before I am snuffed out. Hopefully, these final words will help you survive longer than I did.

In the words of Yuuji, “It is to late to stop now!”.

Bad End is a Horror themed Visual Novel that follows the life of Kyuuhei as he struggles to find the truth behind his best friends mysterious passing. The game starts off with Kyuuhei living out his life as a normal high school student, at least, that was until his best friend Yuuji decided that you wanted to try his hand at a infamous visual novel, known as “Bad End”. In the game, it is rumoured that if the player dies in the game, then they will also die in real life. Kyuuhei was sceptical about believing this rumour until his friend Yuuji mysteriously dies the next day. Doctors believe that his death occurred as a result of an unexpected illness. However, Kyuuhei believes that his friend may have died as a result of receiving a Bad End in the game “Bad End”. To test this theory, Kyuuhei decides to play the game for himself in order to find any clues that may lead him to the reason behind his friend’s untimely demise.

Fast-paced murder mystery that’s interesting enough to keep you going

The premise of this heavily choice-driven visual novel is that a game has mysteriously emerged on the Internet which may be responsible for your friend’s death, and it is now up to you to get to the bottom of things.

Narration

Narration is concise and cuts to the chase - no unnecessary text or irrelevant details. Every sentence serves to advance the story and isn’t just put there as meaningless filler, unlike so many gutter-grade VNs I’ve come across which quickly descend into tedium & frustration as a result.

The Hex

The Hex

I wholeheartedly recommend this, as I did with Pony Island. It’s a fascinating story with twists and loads of hidden secrets to track down. If you aren’t good at examining the meta layers, there’s plenty of people on the Steam forum who’ve done the legwork so you can see it for yourselves.

It’s hard to talk about the content without getting into spoilers, and since so much of this game relies on those, I think I’ll just say this: Not everything, or everyone, is what you see at first glance. A number of things within the game/story can be open to interpretation.

This piece of gaming art, a museum piece, that will take you about 6 hours to finish and that looks like it was made by a child manages to pack a lot of fun, a ton of creativity, extraordinary ideas, thoughtful writing, creepy moments and spectacular jabs at the gaming industry and gaming culture as a whole that the entire 3A “gaming industry” couldn’t produce if they hired all the world’s monkeys and resurrected Shakespeare to write them something.

I can’t write a lot in this review because the less you know, the better. The story is very layered through it’s 6 protagonists, residents of the Six Pint Inn, you get to play as, all the genre mashing it does, playing with different game ideas and ridiculing or celebrating gaming tropes in all of them and all the meta, social, gaming culture and industry commentaries it liberally sprinkles through its running time. It’s just entrancing and it’s extremely satisfying getting to the end of The Hex. I really, really can’t write more than this because it would do the game and you, if you decide to play it, a disservice.

Town of Salem

Town of Salem

Wasted too much time on this game. Overtime the Meta has changed and now every game has town members that mass-protect the day 1 revealed Jailor. They’ve removed Neutral Killing from the ranked game mode so town has an even better edge. Too unbalanced for my liking and evils leave far too often. So often that it ruins the game mode. I don’t blame the leavers because playing as an evil these days is a joke.

This game has gone downhill so fast. That’s what happens when you break a multiplayer game in half with paid DLC. Then have a data breach and lose the personal information of all your users. I gave it another try recently and now I’m suspended for “gamethrowing” as a serial killer. A character that is on his own team. Amazing work. This game is dead, expect a 10 minute wait to find a regular game and ranked to never happen.

The Ship: Remasted

The Ship: Remasted

The Ship is an overlooked gem! The remastered version introduces some nice polish to the original an with a few more tweaks it will be an even more enjoyable. I have been a gamer for about 25 years an this game really hits the sweet spot for me.

It has:

Strategy:

*Micro-managing your characters needs. Think of yourself as a murderous sim. It adds a layer of depth to the gameplay an forces the player to interact with the env. if you want to keep your character functioning. It provides hunters oppurtunities to take out their prey in a moment of weakness (like sleeping, socializng, showering, eating).

I was in the closed beta for this game before it was released onto Steam, and I’ve left it a good many months before making sure I leave a review to keep things fair. So far, the game is in Early Access - so you MUST definitely, absolutely, clearly understand that the game is going to have bugs at this time. Too many people seem to misunderstand this with many games that are in Early Access.

But onto my review - as a huge fan of The Ship ever since the first free HL1 mod, it’s been fantastic to see how well the game has been developed throughout the years with all the new changes, new gamemodes, and now - a whole new engine! Whilst the game has had its ownership transferred through multiple companies (along with some developers joining said transfer) the game still has its incredible style you would come to expect from the game’s series.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

This game sparked my love of Danganronpa and it is without a doubt one of my favorite games. I guess I could go so far as to say it -is- my favorite game. I’ve put 152 hours into the game, I’ve completed all the achievements. I’ve been through every game in the game universe. There is Danganronpa 2, Danganronpa Another Episode, Danganronpa V3 and then the anime. I’ve collected different things from this game. I can’t recommend it more. It’s hard to define but

This is a murder mystery game. It’s deep, chilling and brutal at times. You have to collect evidence and then present it at the class trial, convicting one of your classmates and the trial is rife with things you need to do in order to succeed. You have a trust meter. If it runs out, your classmates no longer believe anything you have to say. I highly…HIGHLY encourage you try it. This one game I bought on a whim, captured my heart. So yeah, of course I’m going to give it a massively positive review!
