RE:Solver

RE:Solver

Step into the role as an investigator under the RE:Solver Agency, a new investigation unit designed to take a fresh look at complicated cases. With your skills and newly granted overreaching privileges, you can access numerous confidential records on essentially anyone. Browse medical records, phone logs, browser histories, and social media to learn everything there is to learn about your suspects.

Background

The game takes place within a fictitious world, quite similar to ours, but with a few key differences. As crime rates are on the rise, a private agency called RE:Solver has sprung up, giving new power in the field of digital forensics. They aid law enforcement around the world by diving in and dissecting the case inch by inch, bringing a fresh set of eyes and vital information to the people in the field.

Nothing will stop a member of RE:Solver to get to the truth. Not rules, not privacy concerns, not ethics.

Gameplay

Use the tools given and dig into every corner of the lives of the suspect. Collect phone records, credit card transcripts, daily habits, and more through the Emerald Network. Browse the game-internal internet for missing people, public records, social media, and more.

Once you have a strong case, you may file them and hope you put the right person behind bars.

Production

This game is based on a series of investigation tabletop roleplaying one-shots written and conducted by Nils Munch during the Covid-19 lockdown. A great thank you to all the players and playtesters taking place in building and polishing up this game.

Creative liberty

While the world seems much like ours, all suspects and the criminal cases you are solving are a complete work of fiction, and any resemblance to any real individuals, living or dead, are purely coincidental. All characters portrayed are generated electronically, and no real people are displayed inside the game.

Bought this game tonight and immediately played though it. My friend and I are huge fans of the “We were here” games and have struggled to find similar ones after playing though the first two. We tried “Tic Tok” and a few coop platformer but nothing could really match up to “We were here”. Until now at least.

“Mark & Lara” is an amazing coop game. You don’t need the internet, just the game and you are set for about 2,5 hours of fun. That’s about how much time it took us to play though it once and we will again soon in order to experience the story out of both character’s perspectives. So for 4 bucks you have ~5 hours of playtime, which is solid imo. The story itself is amazing and really pulled us in. It really feels like investigating and we really enjoyed it. The game consists of talking to one of the two suspects, “official” documents and documentations of conversations. You have to really concentrate and look for the details and compare what the two suspects say in order to find the solution. Teamwork is necessary. The story was surprising in quite a few points and it was refreshing to not have a standart “why I killed him” plot but something more complex. We developed a good amount of theories of what could have happened and none of them turned out to be the correct one in the end.

Tick Tock: A Tale for Two

Tick Tock: A Tale for Two

This is such an interesting experiment in cross-platform gaming. You can play it on your phone, on a tab, on a laptop or desktop.

If you play it on mobile devices then you really should be in the same room together. But if you are on PC then you can use Steam chat or Discord to talk to friends you want to play this with in other countries. It is a co-op game that requires you to communicate in real time to solve puzzles and the story is so neat and really drew me in despite its simplicity. Honestly for the full price Tick Tock: A Tale for Two is already good value for money. If you need more convincing then read on.

This was a fun little “Escape Room” type puzzle game. Two people must communicate and work together to get through each “Chapter”.

Each chapter takes place in the same general locations, and you get to see how things change as time progresses.

A nice touch is that an internet connection is not needed to play with your friend. You select Player One, they select Player Two, and that’s it. That’s good for people who may not have a super reliable connection, like in other games where if one person gets disconnected for a moment, you’re forced to start over (or at a checkpoint). All of that is avoided here.

I wish that could be a way to play coop at the same computer (split screen). I bought this game to play with my girlfriend, we both love puzzle games, then i realyze that we could play only at lan, and i probably have to buy (again) just to play with her and this kinda disapointed us.

Played this game with a friend via Remote Play and had a ton of fun doing so. The animation was beautiful and the gameplay was quirky and fun. Would definitely recommend as a really chill game to run through. Went back and got all the collectables too!

I really wish that Steam would have a neutral rating possibility, because after finishing it in coop and single player and getting all the achievements, I’m pretty torn about it. Would I recommend it? To myself in hindsight, no, to other players with different expectations, maybe, but under heavy caveats. But let me elaborate.

Morkredd is a meanwhile pretty standard Unity coop physics-puzzler with light&shadow-mechanics. You can pretty much get a good impression of the gameplay in the trailers, stay in the light and avoid the shadows of the environment as well as of your coop partner while moving a large ball of light through the levels. Visuals are at most times pretty bleak but serve their purpose, with a handful of some short more interesting sequences strewn in (about once per level). Sounds are few. Most of the game isn’t really hard in coop, puzzles are obvious, skill- or time-based sequences aren’t too demanding. You’ll probably die a lot anyway (some sequences, especially at the end can get annoying), but there are a lot of checkpoints. Single player is also doable, but only if you’re used to controlling the left and right analog stick simultaneously (one stick controls one character) which can get confusing in-between (there’s a button to switch characters’ sides on the fly, but it doesn’t really help when characters have to pass above and below each other). Like all reviews say, the game definitely is very short, should take 2-3 hours at a maximum (depends on how often you die).

Somny & Yawn: Dream Detectives

Somny & Yawn: Dream Detectives

Somny and Yawn is a fun little two hours romp you should try out with a friend. The game really has a lot of charm in it’s presentation; my favorite feature was the dialog music changing along with the character’s emotions. The game is pretty janky and lacks polish in mechanical aspects, especially the end minigame where you have to prove your case, which has the right answers and wrong answers completely mixed up and is really broken because of it. Still, it’s two hours, it’s free - there’s a lot worse for a lot more on steam

Love the idea and the possibility to play at the same time without being in the way of each other with annoying splitscreen. Would have loved more difficult puzzles to force more interactions between the two detectives so we have to talk to each other to progress and find the next hints.

Sadly, it is too bugged and we could not finish the first level. Would have loved to try the whole game.

Rumours From Elsewhere

Rumours From Elsewhere

Deep and challenging platform action game attempting to meld Prince of Persia with a modern Roguelite. Momentum based platforming/parkour, ability based combat with character classes. Inspired level design, smooth controls, solid performance, excellent music, and imaginative worldbuilding are enough to carry the experience through a steep learning curve and significant UI deficiencies as well as occasional frustrating bugs (and sadistic gameplay systems that act like bugs).

I recommend this game if you like hard platformers with an emphasis on momentum rather than air control. Be warned, however, that the high-pressure gameplay involves features like a stamina bar (depletes with attack or dash but not jump or abilities), a timer on every level (which have randomized objectives), potions that do damage to you, weapons that kill you if you unequip them, monsters that CC you so other monsters can knockback you to the other side of the map where you fall in a lethal trap…you get the idea. This game is rewarding but punishing and a better UI would make it more comfortable.

This game is a lot of fun!

I love the look of the game, and it has a ton of character in everything you play as, kill, pick up, or read. Not to mention the sound design and music are great. Once I got used to the core mechanics, I was hooked and kept starting new runs to discover more about the game. Each of the characters feels unique, just as each of the areas are distinct, vibrant, and fun (except Misty Peaks, that place is agony).

On the downside, sometimes the platforming is just a little unwieldy. The jumping or dashing or platform grabbing seemed to occasionally glitch and caused me some significant frustration. This didn’t ruin the game by any means, but it did feel like an unfair game flaw that would crop up now and again. Also, here and there a hit box would be in dire need of updating.

Summer Catchers

Summer Catchers

I’ve completed the game with a few achievements left behind (screw the co-op ones). That’s because once you miss the chance, you can never go back and do them. I guess Devs made it such way so that people can “replay” the game. That would be fine under normal circumstances, but this is kind of a game that I NEVER want to replay.

You need “currency” to buy consumable items to overcome obstacles on your journey, but no matter how familiar you are with the game, you still have to go through all that RNG (mostly obstacles during the race) you’ve encountered throughout in the 1st run. In other words, even if you start the game all over again because you want to “complete” the game, you can’t just breeze though the levels and fill out the missing part. You need to do the EXACT same thing you did in the 1st run;

Note: I completed the entire campaign ~8 hours, anything further was additional achievement hunting.

Summer Catchers is a cute arcade racing game that follows a young girl’s journey to visit the ocean and see summer. While there are quirks that detract from the overall quality of the game, the mechanics are sufficiently solid with no bugs such that the casual experience is enjoyable. Moreover while the game does not innovate or expand on its already established core mechanic, it is carried by a cute art style and complimentary music that carries the game into a basic but enjoyable experience.
