Detective Butler: Maiden Voyage Murder

Detective Butler: Maiden Voyage Murder

Nice detective kinetic novel for one or two afternoons I guess (yeah, there are actually no choices at all) and one that is completely FREE at that. It’s full of overused tropes and it doesn’t take itself seriously at times but I certainly wouldn’t call it bad either as it leaves some food for the thought in the end, so it’s probably somewhere in between.

So yeah - it was enjoyable yet also flawed experience for me. Women characters here are mostly likeable and detailed but all man except captain and protagonist father would benefited from more developement. The pacing was actually pretty good but the mystery was maybe way too easy for me as I guessed the culprit and how everything happend right after the murder happened. Which is good and bad at the same time but thankfully the rest of the story was interesting to follow at least. But the main flaws were probably both main characters - detective Butler and main character (Golder’s son) unfortunately.

Excellent! A free murder mystery visual novel. It’s apparently the first part of Misadventures of Detective Butler series. Originally released in 2013 and then got onto Steam in 2017 with some edits and improvements. I liked this a lot. Has a lot of personal moments and mystery itself is fairly interesting. Albeit I really would like to force detective to grow some beard first. You don’t get to choose anything in a game, which is shame, as I think they could at least test us with picking a suspect at the end of a game. But hey, at least it gives enough clues to solve it fairly before the murderer is revealed.

Seven Days

Seven Days

So… Seven Days, or Seven Days With You: The Most Precious Memory in Our Lives… sigh … It’s all too bittersweet…

A friend of Shuuichi’s gives him a cursed Blu-ray disc and asks him to watch it and see if it’s actually cursed. Well, as it turns out, an evil girl ghost comes out and tries to possess him, only to be exorcised by his childhood friend Murasaki. It’s then that the ghost turns into a normal looking girl named Chiyako, who in turn reveals that she had died and that there are souls of six other girls in her who had also previously died. But a ghost can only remain in the mortal realm for 49 days, give or take a few. So it’s decided that these seven girls will divide the time they have left between themselves, leaving everyone a week to do what they want with the small bit of life that was left to them before they disappear for good.

A mysterious adventure well-worth embarking on.

Synopsis

Seven Days tells the tale of Shuuichi Kanzaki, a young man who, thanks to his rather peculiarly resourceful classmate, Masaru Kinokuniya, stumbles upon a cursed video. The man of reason he sees himself as, Shuuichi takes his friend’s “dare” and decides to watch the video, only to realize shortly later, to his own bewilderment, that he was not quite exactly being bamboozled. Out spawns a creature from an otherworldly plane of existence and assaults the protagonist. The bleak situation comes into speculative resolve by a Shinto priestess, and his good childhood friend, Murasaki Sairenji, as she attempts to exorcise the begrudged spirit, the result of which is far from the expected one. Both Shuuichi and Murasaki have to deal with a body which, although now bereft of former hostility, still serves as a vessel to souls of seven girls whose lives ended far too prematurely and who as such harbour profound grievances against the world that has abandoned them. Will Shuuichi be able to grant them their postmortem wishes and the ends they desire?

Lurk in the Dark : Prologue

The Guilty shall suffer

Lurk in the Dark Prologue is a Kickstarter demo made by one person, and soon we will be getting the first full episode – The Guilty. The Prologue sets up the start of the first episode with Marcus going to a crime scene to investigate a murder. Once there, things quickly turn array when the ghosts of his past begin to haunt him. Is this all in his head, a figment of his imagination? Is any of this even real?

There isn’t much to go on in the prologue, with bits and pieces scattered throughout the level and the ending cinematic, shedding some light on where we can expect the story to go in the full game. Also, the English is broken in certain places, like the subtitles and notes. It isn’t awful but will be noticeable at times.

※日本語版レビューは英語文のあとにあります。

This “Lurk in the Dark” has only a prologue edition, but the creator is Mr. Hamasaki Yusuke, a Japanese person, and although there are some spelling mistakes in the English notation, the “voice” of the characters I am in charge of English and Japanese, which is wonderful.

It’s a horror game with a nice atmosphere, and the stage is the “Lagurus House” where there was a report from the general public, and it seems to be quite a family in the local area.

In this prologue, the episode of Marcus Browne, a detective dispatched to the “Lagurus House” where the incident was alleged, is told.

PARQUET

PARQUET

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

I’ve always liked Yuzusoft VNs, and was initially a bit surprised that they were trying their hand at an all-age game, I still bought it, of course, because Yuzusoft is fucking great. After playing through, I found that it had the typical interesting world that sets it a bit apart from the generic VN, along with interesting writing, and nice characters. After completing the game, and both after stories, this VN doesn’t have too much content compared to other Yuzusoft VNs. It’s the equivalent of just playing the common route, and maybe a chapter of a character in terms of content. Still, I certainly enjoyed this game, especially considering the fact that I could load the files onto a USB, and play it at school.

PARQUET can be described as an experimental venture. But like with all prototypes, it has its imperfections.

PARQUET still has an intense level of intimacy between its three lead characters. And like with all Yuzusoft titles, its cute heroines are still as charming as par for the course.

PARQUET may not have the most engaging plot-line and hilarious interactions, but in its heart-to-heart moments and its last 2 chapters, there are strong emotional cores–exploring and sharing their own thoughts about their own life and happiness.

The Princess, the Stray Cat, and Matters of the Heart

If you play with the restoration patch, I’d surely recommend the game.

The story itself is pretty decent, and it has a good quality, yet, I’ll agree with everyone who’s complaining, the normal version is really bad. I don’t know what they were thinking when they decided to bring such an incomplete game. This isn’t one of those eroge that you can easily play without the H-scenes.

With that said… I’ll give a review because I played it with the restoration patch.

First of all:

-If you decide to buy it, do it when it’s like 50% off, don’t even dare to buy this game at full price

Target Audience: Those needing a smile, or want good characters to connect to

Summary:

While I understand the controversy surrounding the “cut content” dealing with the console versions and the licensed work from Japan, I believe the strength of the game’s core story ends up overcoming that regardless: because it’s a series of characters that are easy to connect to, and touching scenes and moments in the story that end up pushing Stray Cat into a must get in the romantic comedy visual novel pool. Yes, the game may have reasonable line work, alright music, and can be all over the place, but it’s the charm that lifts it to new heights. There’s something down to earth despite some of the super natural elements of the game, and it’s thanks to some EXCELLENT voice acting that the game is able to sell the ridiculous yet emotional elements of the game. I’m going on record that the japanese voice acting is some of the best I’ve heard, especially from Yuuki and Michi. Which by the way, Michi is best girl and no one can tell me otherwise.

MAN STANDING

MAN STANDING

If you like weird and odd games, this one may interest you… Supposedly you are the last person on the planet and you are to find something ( at this point I dont even know what Im looking for).. you end up walking all over the surface and you will see statues of dogs, humans, pianoes and boxes… lots and lots of boxes with an “energy” beam streaching skyward of different lengths. Inside the boxes are the “last words” of the individuals who placed them there…. texts from meaningless code to words of wisdom to nasty insults can be read from the boxes. As you travel across the surface the statues have a “sensor” that projects a minimovie into your mind, most of them are bizzare clips from the early years of movie making. You also are to go to a newer modern bunker type building to activate the unit and mark your presence with a hologram. Once done you set off to the next place… If you pay attention, you will notice a disturbance in the air, a dome can be seen via the shifting of the energy streams coming off the boxes, these domes are protected by “Air sharks”. The “weapon” they use is a wad of goo ( mucus?) to slow your movements to a crawl, your defence from the air sharks is a handfull of shit ( I kid you not) you throw the handfull of shit at the shark and it turns to smoke… The best method of handling the onslot of the sharks is to walk backwards and force thee sharks to follow you. Being in this position you can throw the shit with better accuracy. So, when the sharks attack, walk backwards and start slinging da poo… As I said, its a strange game, slow travel time and a bit of a challenge with the sharks. Oh yeah, almost forgot, when traveling up the face of steep cliffs, rapidly tap the spacebar while moving in the direction of choice, when done fast enuf you will float as if you are wearing a jet pack. for 99cents its an okay game… the real question is, do you want to tie up the disk space to play it?

MAN STANDING

is truly the gem of 2019. This game is probably the greatest game to ever exist. This is not an exaggeration. ALFINA has really blown it out of the park with this one. It is truly a unique experience.

Story

The player will have to shoulder the heavy burden of the only surviving person in the world who, in a fit of schizophrenic delirium, walks to places that hold memories of untimely people who left this world.

The story is excellent. It is written by the literary genius ILYA KOGIMBOVICH (sorry if I spelled it wrong) where it really questions one’s moral standing in a morally gray world. It is quite deep, philosophical and thought provoking, leaving us with some very important questions. I shall not spoil it for you in this review, you must experience it yourself to truly understand the masterpiece. However I must warn you, the story may not be understood by everyone. The writing is on the level of Rick and Morty, so you know for sure that the game is meant for the geniuses in our time.
