Crypt of the NecroDancer

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Over the past several months, I’ve had the pleasure of testing an alpha of Crypt of the NecroDancer , a retro styled rhythm based roguelike.

A what?

Crypt of the NecroDancer is a procedural dungeon crawler where the player and enemies movie on the beats of the game’s music tracks. That may sound like an eclectic mix, but it works. It works really well.

You play as Cadence, a firey young woman who, against the better judgement of her elders, descends into the NecoDancer’s crypt in search of answers. The intro cinematic shows Cadence prone, her head against a blood smeared rock whilst her narration says, “I don’t know how I survived that fall.”

Crypt of the Necrodancer is a timeless masterpiece of an Indie game that never seems to bore me. I have bought this game on 3 separate platforms, and I don’t believe that I wasted a single bit of time spent in it.

Crypt is a very interesting and fun fusion of both rhythm and puzzle, while presenting itself as a dungeon-crawler. The controls are simple, but the skill ceiling is so insanely high for something so surface-level in appearance. Missing a button press on a note resets a stacking “Coin Multiplier” which rewards you for treating this game with precision, taking damage also does this. There is no such thing as “Mandatory Damage” in this game, you are perfectly able to control yourself in order to avoid haphazard conditions, and every single enemy has a pattern or “Tell” that indicates their movements, attack patterns, and the sort.

My Mind Ghost

My Mind Ghost

So, I gave this a go and was open to it, there is some interesting mechanics though not fulfilled in the best way, there is at the root of this a simplistic yet tricky little puzzle game. However it has some bugs which I could forgive but the most Major Bug is you get to the end of LVL 2 and there is no more game, despite it showing there is 8 lvls at least, until this is fixed do not buy this game.

TLDR: bug stops you playing game

Update to review: the game also send tcp data over port 27030 with no indication of why / what its doing (stay safe folks), they did fix so lvl 3 is avalible but progress now does not save so if you exit out back to lvl 2 for you, y do I still play this keen for next update

My Mind Ghost is a simple 2D top down JRPG style retro pixel stealth action game where you must run around a small 2D “maze” and collect objects to escape while a ghost chases you.

The rough as guts English translation is just the tip of the iceberg in this horror stealth game. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel “art” as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It’s unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.

@Review:

In the House of Silence is a simple yet challenging Rogue-Like, with hours of content, featuring a tormenting plot of the House of Silence, the most dangerous location in The Night Land. An effort to find its dark secrets.

However, In the House of Silence, its silence feels more lonely. It is the only known video game to be inspired by Hodgson’s famed story. Hopefully, over time, we’ll see more, just like In the House of Silence.

Oh no! The Minotaur got me… I’ll have to play until I find a proper shotgun!

I’d recommend this game, it’s a nice little dungeon runner game.

Your goal is to navigate through mazes to rescue the princess and then …

The controls are simple and effective, you can adjust your camera angle too if needed.

You go through seven different mazes while the Minotaur is hunting you too.

Each maze gets bigger and the Minotaur becomes faster.

The game fullfills what it has announced, it has nice music and audio and a pleasant looking artstyle.

And it’s free.

Overall, i think it’s a nice little game to spend time on, relatively short depending on your pace but the Minotaur might surprises you around a corner.

One Way Heroics

One Way Heroics

It’s been a while since I’ve played the base game, so this review might contain some bits from the DLC.

First of all, this game is a relatively simple roguelike with a twist: the world is constantly being consumed from the left, forcing the player to continue moving to the right. The base objective for winning is to defeat the Demon Lord, who will generally pop up to fight you after certain amounts of time has elapsed and retreat in a bit if neither is dead. There’s a couple of other winning conditions available, but it’s definitely a spoiler. The Plus DLC adds some alternate campaigns to fighting the Demon Lord, which increases the winning conditions even more.

So, I bought this game a long time ago thinking it was going to be a game where I ran in one direction trying to stay alive.

I was not disappointed in the slightest.

One-way Heroics offers some of the dumbest, funniest, and rediculous gameplay I have ever seen from a rouge-like game.

Slight spoilers below, you have been warned

-Hey, I know you’re new, but you’re supposed to save the world from the left side of the screen since this is sidescrolling and all, and for some reason the left side of the screen is eating everything. GOOD LUCK!

  • The game is good for its wide variety of play styles. The way that skill upgrades are randomized makes each run unique. + Some shrines can change how you play completely. + Nice graphic design. - The black guy skill hitbox is bullshit. - Switching skills is a bit hard. - No music. Overall it’s good, the dev said those bad point will be improved in the Full Release, hope what he said is true.

I want to first off thank the developer for the free evaluation key provided to me. I also want to express that no keys have ever influenced my review or score in even the smallest way. The last Steam key provided from a developer made my MISS series and a 10% score… Just sayin'

KaveXplorer is a game that will likely appeal to fans of the Binding of Isaac crowd. People who enjoy rogue like games, bullet hell games, and action RPGs are also likely to enjoy this game. It’s very well coded, and is very challenging to play as well, like most rogue-like games are!

I’ve played this game about 2 hours now, and am totally having fun. I really like the different weapon behaviors, and perks you discover can give you some great effects.

PERKS

It seems like each set of levels you play (kind of a campaign of 5 or so levels) you clear your perks and must discover them throughout the campaign. I had a perk for extra fire damage on primary swing, then another perk for 100% additional fire damage, it was crazy melee time at that point.

Another time I had hits causing “necrotic puddles” that would do damage over time to any monster in it, super cool!

Torgar’s Quest

Torgar’s Quest

The game has nice classic feel to it., it’s old school hack and slash, but with tactics. The graphics ar simple and funny and the spoken commentary is dwarfish-hammy. The masonry is amazing, of course.

Real player with 143.9 hrs in game

What’s the best way to start an adventure to find 7 shards that will grant Torgar the ultimate power? Armed with nothing but clean underwear and a lunch, of course!

This is a rogue-like dungeon crawl, questing ever downward in search of the seven shards. It has three difficulty levels, and anyone with a decent sense for this type of game will probably win in “Normal” mode after a handful of games. Hard mode is considerably more difficult, and nightmare mode is just that - swarms of baddies following you through the dungeon and trying to trap you in corners.
