ERSATZ

ERSATZ

Summary:

Recommended if you are a masochist like me.

Details:

  • Insanely difficult, but very rewarding once you understand a segment and can execute it without major errors.

  • Chill music, and objects that move with the beat, makes it easy to get in the flow.

  • Pleasant to look at

  • Unique and fun bossfights (except the first one, fuck that flower)

  • Multiple Unlockable Playstyles

  • Liberal use of Checkpoints

  • Colors sometimes make it hard to see tiny bullets

  • Crashed once

~ Perfect for speedrunning. It’s easy to get high in the leaderboards because nobody plays the game (seriously, people come play this game)

Ersatz is a reflex oriented platformer with a heavy emphasis on speedruns. It is not a particularly punishing game because it has an abundance of checkpoints. About 80 percent of the features like extra modes require you to speedrun certain parts to unlock. So you do need at least some level of competent reflexes to get the full experience. As you can see I dropped 24+ hours into the game and I still have things to do. There are 3 regular modes that change mechanics, journey mode, and infinite mode. If you like that kind of gameplay where you have to learn the layout of the level it has a lot of replay value. As far as music and aesthetic part go I absolutely love it. I think for some $9 may seem a lot of a speedrun game but the price is well justified with content.

HyperCore : Rhythm Bullet Hell

HyperCore : Rhythm Bullet Hell

HyperCore is a “Rhythm bullet hell”, mixing the frenetic action of classic bullet hell shoot’em up with semi-procedurally generated encounters based on the music.

Survive by avoiding the countless obstacles sent towards them by the core in sync with the music.

  • Score attack: Earn more points by taking more risks! Hug obstacles to increase your score multiplier.

  • Time Attack: Get hit. Die. Repeat. Try to stay alive for as long as possible in this unforgiving game mode.

  • Custom Song: Play with your own songs!

  • Local 2 player versus: compete with a friend locally.

Stage Presence

YEAH! This is what VR is perfect for!

Be on a Virtual stage, in the limelight, shout into the microphone, get cheered on or boo’d at, sing along to your favorite songs, destroy a styropor guitar, dance til you drop, make peace signs, join random people in their session to cheer them on or blind them with laser pointers or just get emotional with a rose microphone and much more - Yes, Im having a lot of fun playing this, and I havent even seen all aspects of the game yet.

Its just a very nice feeling to get affirmative response from time to time, some kind words, even if its just from NPCs who are generically shouting how awesome I am.

I really enjoyed this - I’m terrified of getting up in front of large groups of people, so the virtual experience of flailing (vocally, and sometimes physically) in front of a digital crowd was an interesting experience.. especially the parts where I get hit in the face by a digitised bottle of wee (the laser pointers gave me flashbacks to classes in highschool).

If you’re looking for a fun, slightly silly, rather unique experience, where you get to be the center of attention for hundreds to thousands of people (whether they’re angry at, or cheering for you), and perhaps want to improve your “how to dodge the occasional thing thrown at me” skills, I’d heartily recommend this.

Octahedron: Transfixed Edition

Octahedron: Transfixed Edition

OCTAHEDRON is simply pure bliss from start to finish for anyone who’s a fan of challenging platformers. With its punchy neon aesthetics and fantastic soundtrack, once you’re past the short, intuitive tutorial you’re straight into the meat of the game with no hand-holding necessary. There are some unobtrusive story cutscenes at the start and end of the game, however everything in between can be played through with no barriers, or any text to read.

Practically every level has a unique mechanic that never gets exhausted, with new enemies, obstacles and platforms that are introduced and swiftly subverted, not to mention the surfing platforms you create yourself which give a great sense of freedom. Collectibles of varying difficulty are strewn across the level but rarely feel like a slog, particularly due to careful level design that allows you to backtrack and collect everything in one sitting regardless of later upgrades. They rarely gate progress, and the harder items simply unlock bonus levels that aren’t required to beat the game, thus allow for some extra challenge. Not to mention the medals for completing levels in as few platforms as possible, or with no deaths.

This game’s unreal.

It’s stylish from the moment you start it up, and really easy to pick up and play. I was (pun intended) transfixed from the moment I started playing it, and have gotten amazing value out of the game so far (all achievements in just under 40 hours). The game encourages multiple playthroughs of each level, and each time you will be approaching the level differently to earn different medals for fast completion, collecting 100% of the items in the level, and efficient platforming.

Very well designed grapple-platformer with a great engine and emphasis on speedrunning.

You have your left and right movement buttons with 3 actions buttons; grapple (fixed 45 degree angle), jump and dash. The level designs are varied and will force you to learn all the ins and outs of your skill set; you can double jump, reel yourself towards the grapple location with or without dash, run/dash/jump on water when you have enough speed and/or good landing angle - these are just some examples of the diversity you can expect from your abilities.

Hardcore platformer with grappling hooks and no speed limit, could it possibly be any better?!

The challenge, the competition, the rewarding feeling of accomplishment: very few games give you all of these at once.

And the moment you realize there is global ranking with replays of every single record to learn from, this game is set to be the heaven of most friendly rivalry you can imagine!

Oh, and don’t miss to join game’s discord, the developer and most top-tier players all sit right there.
