I AM DIE

I AM DIE

Have you ever rolled a dice and thought to yourself “Wow; this is boring. I wish I had full 360 radial movement, a boost, a double jump, and slow-motion capabilities…”?

If so, then I AM DIE is the game for you!

Set across a series of surreal floating islands with procedurally-generated musical soundscapes, I AM DIE is a physics-based 3D puzzle platformer in which you must find, release, and guide a ball to its goal, weaving your way through an increasingly fiendish set of ramps, tubes, conveyors, and other obstacles.

But each roll of the dice counts toward your final score, so as you explore and progress, you must battle against the forces of randomness to keep your level-complete time FAST and your roll-score LOW!

With over fifty main levels (and a few secret ones), I AM DIE is a game that’s easy to play and difficult to master, and may have you tearing your hair out every time you delicately guide yourself toward a “one” and inexplicably land on a “six”.

No microtransactions. No pay to win. No skins or hats or online multiplayer or global rankings. Just good old fashioned platforming fun from an era gone by.

*** Tightly programmed and expansive controls.

  • Over 50 unique levels.

  • Procedurally generated music.

  • No upgrades. You start with everything you need!

  • Secrets and achievements.

  • Behind the scenes content.

  • Should run on very low-end machines (because it was made on one).

  • The dice has a super cute voice!**

Have you got what it takes to get a three star ranking on every level? There’s only one way to find out…

Works best with a controller.

Cadence

Cadence

Cadence is something different: a hybrid of game and music sandbox. Understanding how to bring these two worlds together has been a quest 8 years in the making. It’s now finally here for you to enjoy.

How you spend your time with Cadence is up to you. Some people will enjoy relaxing with the game and solving levels. Tinkerers will enjoy fiddling with music in the sandbox. The crazy ones will program things we didn’t even know were possible.

Game play

You don’t need a sense of rhythm or a good ear to play Cadence - just your thinking cap and a bit of patience will reward you with gentle zen melodies. Puzzles start simple and build up to complex head-scratchers.

Make some noise

If you’ve tried music production you’ll know it’s intimidating. Cadence’s sandbox mode has been meticulously designed so that “time to first sound” is mere seconds. It doesn’t matter if you’re a composer looking for inspiration or you’ve never made a note of music in your life - Cadence is an entirely new and playful way of interacting with music.

Many are better than one

Cadence goes deep: underneath the game there’s a Turing complete logic system and a host of music production tools for you to explore. What’s possible with Cadence is an open question.

That’s why Steam Workshop is deeply integrated with effortless one-click import:

  • play the best community generated levels

  • collectively learn new techniques

  • show off your proudest creations

This game has good core components. No songs to try on launch and in turn no “high scores” to care about. The game doesn’t do a good job of letting you know when you’ve hit for missing a note (think of guitar hero). The algorithm used to analyze the audio is fine, but some of them don’t make sense, and without a tracklist that has a curated ‘track’ that fits perfectly to the beat, just makes it feel a little less.

I like the core idea of the game as a very fast typer, but sometimes the letters are just random. Maybe converting them to words (as touch typing is really what people are doing) would make it easier to follow. That or moving away from the learning to type idea, and just sticking with home row or something for every letter.

Your Music Puzzle

Your Music Puzzle

Quite a niche genre in Steam to be seen.

An idea for deconstructing songs into pieces to reassemble them again was never so interesting, so I decided to give it a try.

The game is replayable as long as you have songs to make puzzles from and your motivation.

Completing songs takes a lot of time, I have spent nearly a half an hour to match all the pieces of a song together into a long chain of music.

I noticed that long chains of pieces sometimes do not want to join to other chains, but it occurs very rarely.

Grabbed this Game the day it came out, and it certainly did NOT disappoint! You can take the songs already a part of the game, or bring in your own music…and see how well you REALLY know the songs you have as favorites…displaced into several puzzle pieces, and it tests how well you indeed know them…which verses come first, etc, to see how challenging it will end up being…but REALLY well done!! The pieces really DO fit together, and parts that repeat or sound similar within a chosen song, is where you’ll really be tested. Never unfair, the challenge does depend on which song you select, but deals more with you than this game, as the game is really done that well. With the possible exception of not being able to save your work once its finished, this game is otherwise masterfully done, VERY cool, good fun OR good time waster, depending on how you see it, but time well spent in any case. ‘Your Music Puzzle’ exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were high. Worthy in every way!

Rytmos

Rytmos

Rytmos is a relaxing puzzle game, where you create music by solving mazes.

Travel from planet to planet and discover the music hidden inside.

Solve the six puzzles on the sides of the planet by drawing a path that ends where it started, creating a loop.

Hear the music slowly unfold as the loops generate unique musical sequences that layers together with the rest of the planet’s loops.

Play on top of the music from the planet with a great selection of fun unlockable musical toys.

The universe is full of cubic planets, which all contains six maze-puzzles to be solved. The path in the maze is drawn by swiping the cursor in a given direction, and it will draw as long as there is a surface underneath. By hitting so-called sound emitters on its way, the cursor activates different tones, percussion elements or musical chords.

Each time you solve a new side of a planet a new musical loop is added to the previous one, revealing more and more of a musical composition.

A WORLD OF MUSIC

During the game you will explore music inspired by genres such as Zimbabwean Kalimba-based music, Ethiopean Jazz music, German electronic music from the 70’s, Circuit bending, Indonesian Gamelan music, Japanese environmental music and much more.

THE MUSICAL TOY IN THE GAME

As you play the game you will unlock musical instruments or modifiers, that lets you jam along and modify the musical loops from the planets.

You will among other things unlock instruments such as a Kalimba, Percussion, Vibraphone, Gamelan percussions and 80’s Synthesizers.

Furthermore you will unlock musical modifiers such as a Bit crusher, Lowpass filter, Delay and Scale changers.

The further you get in the game the more complex modifications and jams you can do.

Alphabeats: Master Edition:

Do you have rhythm in your blood? Do you have good reflexes? Are you good at spelling? Well, you had better have these qualities in abundance, because you are up for a challenge!

Alphabeats: Master Edition is a combination of a spelling / rhythm (music) game. As you launch the game, you will be presented with a comprehensive menu. In the middle of the screen you will be able to select from over 20 tracks to play – or you can upload your own favourite tracks. Also, you will have an option at the top “How to Play” (which is a good tutorial), an online leader board and the words you manage to spell correctly (the longest too).

Alphabeats is a combined word and rhythm game that was originally released as free game with pay-to-play levels on mobile platforms but was well reworked for PC, there is practically no trace of being a mobile game in the past.

You control a pointer that can horizontally move and collect letters from the board to form a word; those letters appear concurrently with the song rhythm. You have to make the best words you can, leading you to aim for the highest score (leaderboards are synchronised online). That might sound pretty easy but beware, as the song's speed gets higher and as you aim for longer words, you'll also have to keep in mind that you have to dodge the letters you don't want to use in a word which you plan to put together.

## Groove Balls

There are many VR rhythm exercise games out there - This one isn't as flashy as most. Hit the ball with sticks or swords. Plus you can load in your own songs and it'll detect rhythm.

Ok so this game is a strange one though it is also growing on me. Once I figure out how to position myself and recenter my headset the game became amazing. Confusing in some parts, but it is a weird mix of games like BeatSaber but add's in some bullet hell elements almost. Over all it is a pretty amazing game letting you play your own songs and each time you play it is different.

Check out a video of me playing it (not the best i know but hey i am working on it) https://youtu.be/-bIOfrJFFMA

## Turba

The late 2000's gave us a cool new type of game which I like to call the "media player" genre: you load up music files from your own computer and they generate the level you play, often with elements of a rhythm game. This fad gave us many classic games such as Beat Hazard and Audiosurf, and continues strong to this day with games like Melody's Escape and Drive Any Track. It's personally one of my favorite types of game. Unfortunately, it also gave us some real stinkers like Ugly Baby and Turba.

Turba is a music/puzzle game where you match the color blocks to score points while playing one of your favorite music. At first, it was fun cause you play the game while jamming your music. However, it gets real boring quickly. The problem of this game is scoring points. Why you say that? When you start to play, matching the color blocks (3 or more) will give you minimal points. To score big points, you must match the blocks from hearing the beat of the music. That's gonna be difficult, depending the tempo of the music you play. Sure you may score well when playing a slow melody but playing a fast tempo song is gonna be hard.

## Audiosurf 2

For people coming from Audiosurf 1: You might like it or you might not. It depends on your playstyle.

For people who have big music libraries who want a new game to mess around with: Get this.

2018 update: Since streaming has been removed, I'm updating the review to reflect that. Also, apparently the demo doesn't work, so I won't mention that either.

Although the game follows mostly the same mechanics as the first Audiosurf (ride on a rollercoaster based on your favorite songs, gathering points and beating other people's scores), there are plenty of things that set it apart. The biggest addition is the workshop, which gives you more than enough options to try out different skins and modes, and lets you find the best ways to play your songs.

I wish there were a Neutral option for reviews, but anyway - I **ONLY** recommend this game if you have a pretty decent song library in your computer. Why? Lemme explain:

### YouTube Fiasco

This game used Soundcloud to stream songs for us to play back in the day until October~November 2016, but, after Soundcloud ceased any applications from using its services, the developer, Dylan, had a few weeks to think about what he was going to do with this game… and honestly, he's lucky his game is great as it is because Audiosurf 2 was almost unplayable for one week or so as a result of it.
