Lacuna – A Sci-Fi Noir Adventure

Lacuna – A Sci-Fi Noir Adventure

Disclaimer: I know the developer personally, which is why this review can be considered biased.

Still, I honestly had a great time with Lacuna and recommend this to everyone who enjoys games with a focus on narrative and detective-work.

I played through the game once and will likely play it again, since your choices really seem to have an impact on the story.

The game combines pixel art with several effects such as dynamic lighting and fog. Together with the soundtrack and an overall great sound design, it creates a very captivating and moody atmosphere.

Lacuna doesn’t miss much as the game’s investigation leads you through unfilled spaces and into a deeply compelling sci-fi noir story.

Lacuna - an unfilled space or interval; a gap or missing part - a very intriguing title choice. Lacuna – A Sci-Fi Noir Adventure moves beyond visual novel yet doesn’t really play like a point-and-click game; however, the story and overall feel are sure to please fans of the Blackwell series and similar investigative adventure games.

Silicon Dreams: Cyberpunk Interrogation

Thoughtful, provoking, atmospheric and wonderfully written. The premise may be nothing new but I felt a genuine anxiety being judge, jury and executioner.

Silicon Dreams is a cyberpunk, futuristic courtroom for androids.

You are D-0527, an interrogation model specially designed with an extended emotional range, better equipped to detect deviancy in other androids, and humans.

Real player with 10.9 hrs in game

In the year 2065, we are an interrogator android, owned by a robotics company Kronos to question various androids and determine if they’re operating correctly or if they’ve become deviant. At the end of each interrogation, we get to fill out a report with crucial information that can affect our reputation with the company, and then we decide what to do with the android - whether to release them, to erase their memory, or to decommission them completely.

Welcome Back

Welcome Back

Loved this game! Pretty retro art style which grows in complexity as we “evolve” into more complex lifeforms. There’s so many details about it that show that the creator spent a lot of time polishing the game’s edges. Although it seems simple, Welcome Back surprises us as we accept its invite to search for secrets.

That many secrets to uncover make the game to feel magically alive, as we dialogue with it, asking questions of “what if” and receiving “yes"s as answer.

I strongly recommend that you play it to the very end, going after each of its nine trophies. The last one is so mindblowing (the challenge itself and the reward) ✨✨✨

Short game in which you play a recently deceased gamer who gets a second chance by god. However, after getting on god’s bad side, the gamer’s turned into an ameba and has to overcome five evolution stages to finally reincarnate as a human. Each stage is made out of 4-5 puzzles where you need to reach the golden star.

  • 1. Stage plays similar to Kirby. You need to swallow enemies and use them to break rocks or eliminate sparkling enemies.

  • 2. Stage has you controlling two snails (one with WASD, the other with arrow keys) that need to work together by pushing or turning a certain object.

Drinks With Abbey

Drinks With Abbey

All of the awkwardness of a first date without the price tag or the time wasted (that almost sounds like a reason to recommend this game…)

Unfortunately it’s not much of a game. It’s a 5 minute long choose-your-own-adventure graphic novel where you answer anywhere from 5 to 20 questions to get one of 9 different endings. I suppose if you’ve never had a date before this all might seem novel and interesting, but it’s just a cliché summary of stereotypical first-date night-at-a-bar tropes that ends long before it bothers to be unique or interesting.

Game emphasizes being honest

I say that the waitress isn’t that hot since she looked kinda “meh” to me

Abbey accuses me of being a lying bitch who’s just trying to impress her/not make her jealous

That’s when I learned that when a lot of people say “I like someone who is honest”, what they really mean is “I prefer someone who gives answers that I like”

Observe how she’s alright with throwing the wool over your eyes (the waitress, gives false idea of pool skills, etc.), yet if you tried to mislead her in any way, she’s all “dude wtf!?”.

La Dimensione Interna

La Dimensione Interna

La Dimensione Interna (The Dimension Within) is a 3D narrative adventure game where you play as a young Italian journalist, named Giorgio, living in a small town in Tuscany. The game focuses on his personal struggle as he finds himself at the center of a chain of events he doesn’t quite understand, but feels responsible for. The player will be asked to guide him through a series of situations and decisions where time, the opinion of others, and his emotions will influence how the story unfolds, and ultimately decide the destiny of the protagonist and the people around him.

Through an innovative dialogue system, the player will be able to decide when to respond or intervene in a dialogue; he will also be able to decide what to say – and how to say it. All those elements will be taken into account by the characters involved, which will respond accordingly to what they feel, believe, and are trying to achieve.

However, not all options will always be available, and this will depends on Giorgio’s Principles: the player will be able to shape up his instincts and personality, which will enable some choices and hinder others. There are ways to force Giorgio to act against his will, to a certain degree, but it will have a cost.

Giorgio’s emotions are another important aspect the player will need to deal with: fears, anxieties, neurosis will make everything more challenging for him: on a wrong day, even innocent jokes can turn into mortal offences, and some NPCs will leverage this, in the attempt to manipulate him.

Another key aspect is that Time will always be ticking – even during conversations. Every line of dialogue pronounced by either the protagonist or other characters has a time cost associated. This means that even if NPCs will follow their own routine, your actions will impact what they will decide to do next, given they still have the time to do it… just remember that time won’t wait for you either.

Ninki Seiyuu: How to Make a Pop Voice Actress

Ninki Seiyuu: How to Make a Pop Voice Actress

This game exceeded my expectations by a mile, featuring some solid character writing with its development of the three main heroines. This, coupled with great supporting characters and pairings where both the MC and the girls work equally hard to succeed made for a very satisfying experience. Only minor complaint would be that one of its lovable supporting characters(Kaname) does not have a route of her own.

Real player with 50.6 hrs in game

This is a pretty good visual novel with a lot of passion. There are too many H-scenes in my opinion, and some of the expressions don’t change as much as they could in my opinion. The ambiance is well done in this story and the side characters are cast well. The manner in which the text displays the thoughts of characters aside from the protagonist can be confusing at first.

[Light spoilers about plot theme]

I will talk about how I believe the voice actresses were well chosen for their roles.

Kurusu probably has the most generically lovely voice out of voice actresses. In a way, her voice is the polished type that the anime industry wishes to utilize for female leads. She gets a lot of jobs because of this.

This is a pretty short game but its pretty well made and I enjoyed what was there, it took me some time but I did finally get all three endings. My favorite ending I think was 2a, it made me smile, but 2b hurt my heart. Thanks to the devs for creating this, I really hope they do more like it, I’d like to see a game like this with a few more outcomes and a bit more length

Superstorm Melon Date

Superstorm Melon Date

Andi does it again and teleports us into yet another parallel universe of his wild imagination. Superstorm Melon Date takes place in a world that feels like a glimpse of the far future where struggles of the 21st century reverberate. Take a gander at the dating scene during a violent global storm with a gene-spliced melon race. You’ll feel a little odd but strangely familiar too as you break the ice and get to know your melon-date. If you like authentic characters, crazy worlds and visual novels this game is a perfect match for you! An expertly written and paced game that is short and sweet and lets you off the hook with a craving for more.

Real player with 2.1 hrs in game

Superstorm Melon Date definitely delivers on the levels of bizarre suggested in it’s title. In this dystopian visual novel you date Mel, a non-binary half-human/half-watermelon hybrid. For the most part I found Mel obnoxious, but they have their moments of thoughtfulness and sincerity. One of the strongest aspects of the game is the setting. Opposed to the typical dystopian world where everyone is collared by an authoritarian regime, Superstorm Melon Date shows a world where the environment is seemingly the biggest oppressor. While this is occurring, there are growing tensions between humans and their melon counterparts. I want to see more of this world.
