Cartomante – Fortune Teller

Cartomante – Fortune Teller

A short but fun game set in a fantasy/modern setting where you play a witch who earns her living telling peoples fortunes.

The game has a beautiful art style and does a great job at world building. It has interactive dialog that succeeds at being mysterious, intriguing and often times funny. The game is short but very replayable with various different readings you can get for each person that results in different and often unique outcomes, you can play the same day over and over with different results each time.

This is a really good game. Short, but incredibly charming, an absolute steal for the price.

The dialogue is extremely well written, and it manages to be funny and thought provoking. If you’re like me, you’ll keep replaying it (and reliving the same day a la “Groundhog Day”) until you get the best (or worst) possible ending for all your clients.

Definitely do not sleep on this one!

Handwritten nostalgia

Journey back to the 90s and move through beautifully hand-drawn letters, as you follow the life of Sarah. Learn more about her friends, nerdy obsessions or why she has the most annoying sister ever.

Then go digital as Sarah grows older. Revel in the nostalgic pixel world of the early 2000s internet while navigating all the drama, anxiety and joys of teenagehood.

Shape your future

Watch Sarah grow up and make decisions that will change how her life will turn out as an adult (no pressure). Take revenge on your sister, play video games all day or fall in love. It’s all up to you.

Don’t like the outcome? Just go ahead and rewrite her story. (See? we told you, no pressure.)

Power of words

In a world made from paper and computers, words matter. So use them to change drawings that block your way, help friendly characters and interact with Sarah’s friends.

I PET THE DOG OMG OMG OMG I DID IT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

This game made me scream so badly my roommate had to come make sure I wasn’t being murdered.

I really love the different designs and areas. I only played through it once so far and got the bad ending but I definitely want to play it again to see if I can get the other endings. The level and sound design is brilliant, in my opinion. The game really knows how to invoke anxiety and fear into the player. There’s the anticipation for a scare lurking around for the majority of the game. I enjoyed all the puzzles as many of them felt very unique and there was certainly a feeling of relief upon completing specific ones and entering essentially a safe zone.

Detours

Detours

Detours is a thoughtful and moving game with deep characters and road trip vibes! I love it so much. You can tell a lot of love was put into making this story. Also the soundtrack is a JAM.

Super recommend.

BEST GAME 2021,

The story is riveting and feels very real.

It is easy to find yourself resonating with both of the characters as you play through.

The midwest aesthetic is spot on and shows the care and detail that went into every aspect of the game.

If you like visual novels pick it up. plus the team is super cool I hear.

10/10

DON’T WAKE THE NIGHT

DON’T WAKE THE NIGHT

I don’t know, maybe I just didn’t “get” this game, but I couldn’t figure out what was going on or what my actions actually accomplished. The gameplay was a bit annoying because the text in the text boxes loads very slowly, and you can’t skip previously read text. The mouse movement to move the camera view is also extremely slow, and for some reason during dialogue the camera kind of bobs around.

Aside from that the game looks beautiful, and I’m glad to have bought it to support indie developers, but it’s hard to recommend.

strange little thing. more of a short play than a game, truth be told. an interesting little setting. good to support small time artists

Sea of Roses

“you were in love and you were trusting. You didn’t know that things like that could happen in relationships”

This sentence made me cry, I needed to read it. Thank you.

I knew Jennifer Ann’s group and their games for several year and as usual this is a lovely gem. Some aspects seems simple, almost too “black and white”, but coming from a similar relationship after 12 years… Some scene were hurtful because they hit too close from home.

It is really nice to see these drawings, almost childish but full of love. The characters are “typical” but not cliché to the point of being annoying. You learn to love them and to see beauty in this world and yours.

Honestly, I played the demo and was interested and waiting for the game to come out on release expecting the price to be between £5-£10 and it’s free! I loved the game, and also the only game I completed every achievement, it’s short game, with really gorgeous art style and colours, with a meaningful story! with cute unique journal.. would recommend! :)

A Game Has Never Made Me Cry Before…

First of all, I want to say that this game is extremely well-written. The characters all have their own unique voice, a manner of speech unique only to them. You don’t always know how they will interpret the answers you give them. Sometimes the outcome remains the same, regardless of what you tell them; rather than a stiff railroad, though, the narrative comes across more like a river delta, with lots of little branches that ultimately lead to the same destination.

This game is a delightful experience filled with heart, joy, sadness, anger, and hope. Worth a purchase for anyone looking for a low-key game with simple, straightforward objectives and controls.

But what is it? In Grotto you play as the Soothsayer, the Stranger, the Startamer, and a bunch of other nicknames given to you by a primitive tribe for whom you read the stars, assigning them meaning and purpose in order to give guidance to those who seek you out. Over the course of the game you’ll see how your guidance affects the state of the tribe and their future, with many consequences unforeseen.

Ourea

Ourea

ourea calls itself a cinematic puzzle game and sure enough, cutscenes with cinematic shots happen very often. too often, as a matter of fact, disturbing what little gameplay there is without providing anything substantial for the most part.

This game is a great example for aspiring devs for the type of effort they should be putting into their early work. Too often I find that new devs publishing their first games just dial in broad swaths of their games. These guys clearly put a lot of effort into this game, but they’re just not there yet. I’m glad they got so far as publishing because very few do, and this project shows so much promise for their future projects. For my full thoughts I made a video on this particular game:
