Princess Battles

Princess Battles

Fun game, would be great if it were a little longer but definitely worth buying and playing. Yes, you have to deal with a bratty princess to start out, but there’s actual choice about which way she develops. She isn’t a pushover, which is rather nice. There are a number of interesting endings, which add to playing time and value.

Artwork is very nice, main story and story arcs are well done, card battles are slightly repetitive but the difficulty progression is good (especially the first time through). And despite the repetition, I did find the card games fun.

I was hesitant to buy this. The price seemed a bit expensive and what little I saw of the writing seemed a bit simple. I say seemed, because actually I had a ball with this game! The graphics are pretty, and I love the different dresses for the MC! All of the characters, including the MC, are really likable! Gerald is my absolute favorite, I was smiling through all of his scenes! (I will say it felt more like 3 love interests, not 4). I love that we get extra stories and free play mode. The card battles are fun, and I like that we can customize our deck in free play. The difficulty felt right, since I lost as many times as I won.

Watch Me Stream My Mental Breakdown

Watch Me Stream My Mental Breakdown

A deckbuilder game with a novel theme and a twist in mechanics because it has a visual novel built around it, with its own set of problems and goals. It’s designed to be replayed, with the goal of earning permanent starting cards after winning the overall game, so it gets a little different every time. The plot is simple, but that’s fine because the point of this game is the cards.

I thought the little details in the story were charming. “Panda” really captures the essence of a streamer, and it makes dealing with disappointed parents feel more lighthearted when they’re pandas. It’s a game that’s not trying to be serious so you can focus on the cards and I appreciate that.

I want to enjoy this game, I really do, and I understand a lot of the references and tropes in it are geared towards jaded streamers who agree with the fact that there really isn’t a guide to go about streaming successfully. That being said however, I want something of a guide, a meter, something more than viewers to tell me I’m successfully streaming. I’ve tinkered with the length of streams, I’ve tried to be conservative, tried to be nice and run the nontoxic suite, I’ve tried to be combative and run the ego trip end the stream as quick as possible, I’ve tried to go full immunity and keep my chat from hitting me, I’ve let chat beat up on me to rest up next week, doesn’t seem to matter, I don’t see any difference in my stream results. Maybe it picks up when you get your viewership set, either way I don’t know if I have time to keep playing to try to find it, I don’t even know if this is something I will revisit down the line. If you play the demo for this know that you’re just going to get more of the same, it never seems to pick up, never gets fully explained mechanically. Dunno if there’s more to do with this, if the devs are going to keep making changes, but I’m not happy with it at this point.

Cherry Tree High Girls' Fight

Cherry Tree High Girls' Fight

This is a stat building simulator game, where fighting is simulated through card battle. It took me awhile to figure out how the card battle works, and I can see why many people are frustrated due to lack of transparancy. I would still recommend this game because I’ve ejoyed playing it and 773 / Seikai Project has made efforts to improve the game.

I played through this game so many times now.

It’s a really good one and I love the characters.

Especially Asuka, Kei and Kyoko, as well as Asumi and Haru but everyone else is sweet too.

They gave every girl some background story and personality, and there’s quite a lot of characters. Of course this means it’s not super deep on character backgrounds as there’s just too many characters. But for the amount of characters present in the game, this is not surprising and they did a really good job with that. I mean, come on, it’s one thing to flesh out 1 or 2 characters and do a great game with those, but this game has 15 characters, you gotta account for that.

I’ll go into some detail because there don’t seem to be any other english reviews yet. The game is listed as featuring english language support, but I couldn’t be sure if/how well it was implemented because the title and screenshots don’t include any english. I decided to give it a try because of the low price, nice visuals, and cool-sounding concept. I like deckbuilder roguelikes and play a lot of Genshin Impact, so I really liked the idea of a card battle system incorporating elemental reactions.

Interesting card system, where you’d want to balance your attacks and chain their effects. A few criticism so far:

1. the game needs more keyboard inputs, instead of just using mouse controls.

2. Obviously, if there is keyboard input, we’d need a mapping view in the setting UI.

3. Some effects like randomly nullifying a card we played is too powerful, mainly because we cannot plan for what to expect, thus killing our strategy.

Oh yeah, I played in chinese, so no idea how well the english version works.

So i see most reviews are from people with 2 hours so i will be the first actual player to write a real review, let me start by saying the game is free, you can choose to play for absolutely nothing, now that being said, just like any other game released on steam, you can pay for more, are there expensive single cards in the shop? yes. do you need to buy them? no. should you buy them? no.

This is a strategy game, if you aren’t good at strategy you will lose a lot, the strategy lacks a lot of depth but it is there, and you can really notice the difference once you figure out a play style and learn to counter different things. it is the general nature of a card game to know that one specific card will not beat another, if you cannot learn this you will not find success in this game.

Hmm were to start ?

First at all it not really PTW it has elements like the most games in steam , you can reach even all cards ( right now common , uncomman , rare , epic , legandary ) in only playing the story line , with all i mean even the legendary and you have to pay nothing for … its right that there are cards with 15 $ or 30 $ , but do you have to buy them - no … so before act like a cry baby ( as a read the most negativ reviews with not really a background ) , try to get some knowledge over the game , before speak up again , to pay for a game and think you would be NO.1 will never work without knowledge , … so in all - its a nice game not perfect , its new , the art style is awsome you can collect card pieces (copie from your card) to make your card stronger and the animation changes too , there permanent new events - the are allways free , give it a try ; )

cute little game apart form the fact that its basicly in alpha:

bad translation to the point where you left guessing what cards do

a good portion of the cards doesnt do anything in the first place

starter decks of the diffrent classes cant fight half the enemies in the first lvl

fights start sometimes randomly without input from your side

and the list goes on and on, not worth the money at this point

Griftlands

Griftlands

Updated for Flourish & Mettle Update

My opinion of Griftlands is largely unchanged from my original review (below). The combat is tight and you’re frequently just a misplay or two away from losing a big fight, but the RPG elements get increasingly gimmicky the more you play. It’s sort of sad that choosing whether to help someone or not really depends on whether the passive bonus they give for loving or hating you is important or not. At higher prestige runs then you feel somewhat punished for taking an in-character action that ends up giving you a malus - I understand that’s a strategic trade off you have to make, but it highlights where the RPG and strategic aspects clash jarringly in Griftlands.

TL;DR: Slay the Spire meets RPG. Production values are high but card gameplay is inferior to StS. Not a game I expect to play over and over again. Passable.

–——-

Have you ever played Slay the Spire adn thought to yourself, “Man, this game could use more story”? Well, Griftlands is that game! Narrative, great writing, flavour, design, environment, Griftlands has all you’d want from a card battler rpg!

…Kind of.

I like Klei. I do! Their products, while not always for me, are usually quite innovative and interesting. So I’ve been keeping a close eye on whatever they produce. In this case, they borrowed the card battling mechanics VERY VERY heavily from Slay the Spire, and added in all the essential elements of RPGs and made it well. In these ways, the production value of Griftlands is significantly higher than Slay the Spire.
