This game is amazing and I encourage you all to install the demo play through the campaigns and then get in on some multiplayer fun.

At first glimse it looks and feels mostly like playing Risk with more depth. At first the learning curve may appear to be overwhelming but trust me if you take the time to play through the free demo you will soon get the jist of things fairly fast.

There is alot of really good things to say about this game and its definately a step forward for those strategy game lovers who are wanting something casual but competitive at the same time.

With some games, we tend to concentrate on all sorts of factors that seem important, and overlook the one that’s the most important of all - fun! This game is just great fun to play! I kind of enjoyed the free version, and figured it was worth the punt at what’s a pretty reasonable price. I have quite a few digital board games in my library so I was just expecting this to be another to come back to from time to time, but I was pleasantly surprised that it immediately became my new favourite game.

To win, you must reduce your enemy’s Glory to zero before they do the same to you. Your successes on the battlefield chip away at your enemy’s Glory. It never goes up, only down; so it’s always a tense, back-and-forth race to the bottom.

One of those games that is both well programmed and well made to make nuclear war just another giddy joyride.

The game focuses on a world during the late 70’s and early 80’s, where nuclear war is taking place, and up to 6 nations can declare into it, the nations include The European union (and several other nations not currently in the EU) The USSR, (A and some parts of Kazakhstan) Asia (Not Ocenia, Australia, or Mongolia) Lain America (Not including Cuba) Africa, and North America including Canada and the United States.

This was my first game bought online on steam… years ago. It’s an an-and-off relationship, and recently I got back into it a little, and the old fever caught on again!

Pro:

  • not much required in terms of specs (although it can blow the fan a lot in certain situations)

  • UI has a great visual design

  • soundtrack is fitting

  • game mechanics depend on other players to work out one way or another: good online games are common

  • interesting game modes, for example: diplomacy. Everyone sees everything at the beginning, being in one team. Who defects first? Lots of maneuvering and chit-chatting among parties and backstabbing! Oh the backstabbing! Boy did we have fun with that!

You know what bothered me about Battlefield 1? How every single player got automatic or semi-automatic weaponry, as if Europe had been magically blessed by the Glorious Murder Cube as soon as Franz got shot. Sure, there were semi-autos and submachine guns in WW1, but only in extremely limited numbers, and most were about as reliable as an alliance with Italy.

I’d hoped for a more deliberate kind of shooter, and BF1 wasn’t it. Then I found Tannenberg, a game set in the eastern front of WW1, and it was like finding the game I’d hoped BF1 would be.

So, after spending some 20 hours in Tannenberg and roughly the same amount of hrs in Verdun, I decided to write a review here. This may seem as a somewhat subjective opinion of the game, because of the fact that I am a history enthusiast, but I highly recommend this piece (and Verdun as well, of course) to anyone who’s interested in historically accurate, semi-realistic, squad based semi-tactical FPS shooter - that’s what WW1 Game Series are. The squads are well made, equipment is on point, graphics are nice, sounds believable - same goes for the maps in both games. Immersion is the biggest pro of this game, it really makes you believe you are there, bullets whizz by your ear, men are screaming for their lives same on both sides, you shoot as many foes as you can before someone on the other side of the trench/field with more luck shoots you dead. But the vicious cycle goes on and on, same as it did in the actual conflict and more men die by your side. The tactical part may seem minimal but it has a huge impact on the game results. I could go on and on listing pros of this game… The one and only thing that makes people write bad reviews is the player count. At peak hours in EU and US it’s roughly 200 players in Verdun and 70 in Tannenberg - not ideal, I know but it got as high as 600-800 when the game was on sale and during the free weekend - it needs to be advertised, put on sale (I know Tannenberg is sorta new but still, gotta make cuts when you want a stable playerbase). It doesn’t have any gamebreaking bugs or flaws, it just deserves more polishing and content. And advertisement…and ads…and sales :)

I have been dabbling in this game for a few years now and I have watched it develop and improve with the developer happy to listen and take on boards ideas and suggestions. Whilst it easy to describe it as a turn based Command and Conquer it is more than that and what is important about it is that it is simply great fun. Different game modes cater for your mood- you can battle through the various campaigns (which vary in challenge from winning through sheer force to more subtle and stealth scenarios), fight off waves of enemies in the invasion mode or conquer the world in huge skirmishes against an impressive AI which cannot be bargained with and which has had me on the ropes more than once when I let my guard down. The graphics are fun, the selection of units is interesting and all for a bargain price. What more do you want?

This is an excellent game that combines playability with a design philosophy that rewards authentic gameplay. You give your subordinates broad directives and waypoints, which they will carry out to the best of their abilities. The game abstracts the busywork and assumes that your subordinates are handling their own responsibilities. Fire support can be automated in case plotting artillery targets becomes tedious. Battle command becomes the player’s main concern over micromanagement. It’s very easy to plot out a battalion or brigade-size action and coordinate timings between the component units.

A very strange beast of a game, aiming to tackle myriad of unique aspects that are rarely represented in games of similar nature. Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm is not only a treat for fans of turn based strategy games, but also a must have for ‘Cold War-turned hot’ scenario fans, meaning those who liked Tom Clancy’s most famous book about same topic will feel ultimately at home with this game.

FC:RS gives us a plethora of operations and separate missions, which we can play against the AI, from any angle, or in multiplayer with hotseat mode as an option. Be warned though, it’s a hefty game, meaning battles may last hours of real time, and despite it being a sort of old school tile/hex based strategy, it very much aims to simulate the outcomes rather then entertain you as a ‘game’ in it’s strict sense. That said the simulation itself sets of to tackle so many aspects of modern warfare it still amazes me to no end how many features are being calculated over span of a turn.

Some of the negative comments about this game that I remember seeing are about one thing or another that seemed unrealistic or un-historical to the reviewer. The reviewers may have had slightly too rigid notions of what might happen in a real war, but for the most part I do not disagree with their comments. My defense of Pike & Shot regarding these objections is that the developers have done a fantastic job of balancing realism with playability and balance. In fact, I feel that the game is incredibly good that way. In my opinion, fixing small realism issues is not worth the risk of reducing the playability and balance. The progression of the difficulty levels is good. It has been a lot of work to get good at the game, but very rewarding. Easy enough to get started, a lot of work to get better, but a ton of fun getting there. And still a lot of fun to keep playing even though I have recently reached a plateau in my mastery. And you can see how many hours it took me, although you should divide the number by 2 or 3 because I don’t think that the hours played is sensitive to inactive periods.

I really want to like this game. As can be seen by my hours spent in it. It’s so close to the kind of old school, tactically challening game I’d love to like. But it simply doesn’t work.

This is a mechanically interesting game, but the developer isn’t good enough at writing code to make the dense “under the hood” rules work consistently or even fairly. There are also a number of bad decisions on how campaigns are handled that makes the game an exercise in frustration, even after you get good at it. As can be seen I’ve given it hundreds of hours, because it it’s fascinating and deep tactically but its many flaws really drags it down.

If you love First Strike: Final Hour then I do encourage you into buying it unless your into small arcade games.

When I played my first match I was honestly disappointed with the game especially having a price currently being unreasonable to purchase, in my opinion the game should be completely free due to the game’s current state.

I understand that time was taken to make something like this but to create a game secondly from First Strike: Final Hour you would expect it to be more exciting to have a multiplayer feature.

Don’t be deceived by the “Single-player” listing, expecting the possibility of a bot match or campaign. It boils down to 5-10 minute purely PvP card-based game of resource generation, land grabbing, firing missiles, counters, and a superweapon that’s an AoE missile. There’s some strategy such as soft-locking your opponent by destroying their land grabbing potential. It’s good if you’re looking for something to quickly kill time and not get invested in.

There is advancement through grinding with the default 6 or so cards to get another 9-10 for each faction. If they could expand the game with bots, card modifiers, a galaxy-map, campaign, and/or 3+ player PvP, I’d definitely be into it. Until then, it’s worth about an hour or two of playtime.
