Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas

To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day

Hardly spoke to folks around him, didn’t have too much to say

No one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip

For the stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip

Big iron on his hip

It was early in the morning when he rode into the town

He came riding from the south side slowly lookin' all around

He’s an outlaw loose and running, came the whisper from each lip

And he’s here to do some business with the big iron on his hip

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

Quick Review

Although I consider Fallout New Vegas to be superior in most if not all ways to Fallout 3, I still prefer it over the “better version” due to a simple yet enjoyable story, plenty of content, entertaining stories and very impressive and depressing locations, filled with death, despair and also teddy bears in compromising positions. Beware of the insane number of bugs (even in the GOTY edition) and crashes due to Bethesda being Bethesda.

- Played only Vanilla, with mods the experience can be drastically improved -

Fallout 3

Fallout 3

Fallout 3 isn’t just a game, It’s an experience.

Wow, since I’am getting so many thumbs up, I feel I should write something useful about this game and why I personally recommend it.

  • One big continuous open world. Loading screens appear only when entering major cities or buildings.

  • Very atmospheric and immersive world to explore.

  • Every NPC’s are really living in that world. They follow their own daily routine from morning to night. You’ll meet them, talk to them and even remember their names.

I am going to start this review with controversy. Of the Fallout series I think Fallout 3 is the best of them. Now before you start flaming me over the fact your prefer Fallout: New Vegas or Fallout 1 for instance, let me try and explain this.

Fallout 1 & 2 remain good classics, that must be played by any fan of the later Fallouts, if only for the feel of it for the moment. The first Fallouts had the best incentive to go away from the safety of community, because either your vault or your tribe was in danger - both of them showing much of Fallout world. However, that said although I enjoy pixelated games… they are pixalated games and some of the tactic options are for the time excellent, but now outdated.

Contagion

Contagion

Contagion is a zombie game with a good portion of realism. It uses the source engine and allow us players to create custom maps which I love it so much.

Gamemodes

There are many game modes out there but no tutorial so you are better off by watching the trailer first to get to know about the gamemodes before you get confused will all the new features. For example if you had enough with coop, you can play against other players in a level filled with the walking dead.

Main features

Short version:

Pros:

  • Great maps with classic zombie locations

  • Challenging gameplay

  • Great fun with friends

  • Rewards planning and coordination

  • Resource management

  • Still updated

Cons:

  • Character models

  • Voice acting

  • Some modes are boring

“Long” version:

Contagion is a first-person zombie game where you play as a vast number of survivors and must complete objectives throughout a myriad of great maps in order to get to safety. It has been developed and published by Monochrome, Inc.

Dustwind

Dustwind

Let’s start by saying that I really wanted to love this game. I was swayed by nostalgia over Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel but was ultimately confronted with the realization that Dustwind still needs a lot of polish to compete with modern games.

The AI, in general, isn’t anything special which in some cases takes away any bit of immersion you might wanted to experience. Enemies screaming HELP due to low health, but insist on running towards you, or staying completely stationary while being shot at with sniper fire.

I cannot give a positive review of this game. I tryied… but this is getting worse everytime i play on it. I really wanted to love this game.

  • DEAD This game is dead, in all ways. No one plays PvP, no ones play PvE. If you have friends to play with… give it a try but do not expect playing solo.

  • DIFFICULTY The difficulty of this game will make you nuts.. it is hardcore on every map unless you know exact positions of every enemies. It is a TRY HARD game until you finish successfully a mission.

Mecha Knights: Nightmare

Mecha Knights: Nightmare

As someone who loves the mecha genre, I was excited for Mecha Knights: Nightmare’s release, and I was not disappointed. There is a lot of customization within the game, allowing for many different builds - though explosives are the current meta. The randomized drops foster experimentation with new equipment and weapons, often leading to discoveries you would not have found by relying on stats alone. The many types of weapons having a distinct feel and varying use making your choices feel like they actually matter, which is something often lacking in games, where every weapon has a very similar feel.

tl;dr: I really like this game. For $15 it isn’t bad at all.

I have some issues with it, related almost entirely to the story, not the game itself. I’ll grade it in a normal SPAG (Story, Performance, Aesthetics, Gameplay) method. It will be mostly my thoughts on the story element (IMO) issues, though.

=== Story ===

So the story in this game is bad, but in a manner that is so inoffensive I cannot tell if it wants to set itself up in the next game as being satire or serious. I’m assuming there will be a next game, if only to introduce swords and such.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is slavjank at its finest. While the game has aged relatively well, one must still keep in mind that this is a game produced with shoestring budget and had a somewhat troubled development cycle. The caveats in mind, STALKER is an excellent semi-open world shooty-survival-y romp with a decent story to it. The story is told through a few cutscenes, but mostly through either someone radioning you and telling something has happened, or through a dialog box before or after a mission.

Honestly an absolute legend all around, theres always things you’ve missed or hidden spots you havent experienced after you’ve played the game leagues of times, and the lore only goes deeper from here. One of my favorite games of all time, and the beginning to a legendary series.

game crashes for the most stupid reasons like the light bulb touching something after unpausing or using ctrl+v, but the devs read the discussions soo together the community can fix this, but i dont recommend it yet, wait until it has more content, more interesting saves (that dont break on the next version), and less crashes before buying

i think the game is dead

but indeed it has a interesting concept and i support it, but as i said before, wait until its ready to play

Nice game. Yes, is like People Playground graphics wise (I don’t have People Playground), but it’s a vehicle building (although I’m pretty sure you can do that in both games), physics based game, not a kill the ragdolls in every way possible. There is a lot of parts to play around with, and in general have fun. It’s still in development and has bugs, but it’s very fun as it is. The devs are also really active in the community, which is really nice.

Now, Part 2 of the revisions. To recap after the 1st stalker game revision….this is based on the vanilla experience.

Ah, the prequel. Also, the game that the stalker community thought was forgettable. Me? I personally LOVED this game. Sure, it’s missing a few things….namely hunger, and an all-around creepiness with some of the environments. But to counter, this game introduced some features that proved to be worthwhile; for instance, the weapon and armor upgrades and repair. Do the weapons and armor still degrade? Yes, but now you can enhance them with more armor plates, flex the durability, and even add protection against anomalies. It’s needed because if you ask me, this is the hardest of the 3 stalker games. Just as is with the first game, once you get to a certain point, there’s no turning back. So, be prepared for ANY situation again.

This classic game works great in Linux with using a proton 3.16 but you have to make some tweaks to fix fullscreen/window issues:

1. set launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% in game’s properties

2. launch protontricks 20510 vd=1920x1080 windowmanagerdecorated=n windowmanagermanaged=n with your screen resolution to place the game in special borderless window

Game is good, it has a good story, but there are many unresolved bugs:

  • to fix bug with USB flash drive I was obliged to unpack game’s resources and manually edit a script to add quest item into the inventory. This is the shame for devs! howto
