Overgrowth

Overgrowth

The game still feels somewhat unfinished, but they actually fixed the combat so that it’s fun again. That, and the amazing mod support means that I can’t but recommend the game. It’s a bit pricey, but it offers some of the most satisfying melee combat ever seen in a game. Perhaps even more satisfying than Dark Souls or the like. Despite it’s tragic state after a ridiculously long development time, it’s a cult classic and one of my favorite games for a simple reason; The combat is so good. It’s my go-to I-wanna-clap-some-people-to-death-or-die-trying game. If you love melee action combat games like me, you can’t pass this game.

Amazing. I got this from Humble Monthly, installed it, and in one sitting completed the main story. Now it’s 3 in the morning and I’m writing a review. The main story is indeed 3 hours long, but it held my attention by being so fun to play and look at that it passed by way too fast! I haven’t gotten to try the other 2 stories yet, but I can say a few things about the game, and from now on, I’ll be referencing the main story.

The good:

  • Movement: it’s amazing. There’s so many ways to get around, it feels so fluid to get from place to place, and the best part: Moving around is FUN! If I can have fun just getting from place to place, it’s a game I’ll enjoy. I’ve seen a couple reviews saying that the movement doesn’t do what you want it to do, but I just don’t see that in this game. Everything is spot on. Whenever the character did something wrong, it was always my fault, not the game.

GTTOD: Get To The Orange Door

This review is based on the beta version of the June 2021 build.

Note: Custom Maps and Mods are still not supported in this version.

Imagine you’re a Spartan - one that can wall-surf like a Titan’s pilot and dash like the Doomguy. One that can slow time like they’re in F.E.A.R. and bring it to a halt like they’re friggin' Dio.

This is the Doorguy - this is you.

GTTOD’s Second Excessively Late Update, for those that gave the game a spin before, is in some regards a long overdue rebalance and overhaul.

This is a relatively unpopular opinion: I like the Excessively Late Update. I do not think it’s perfect, and I think Andrew knows this too.

I played v0.3.0 (the last version) and v0.4.0 (this update), but I did not play previous versions (v0.2.0 and earlier).

Movement

If you’re like me and picked up Titanfall 2 as soon as it went on sale on Steam, then a) welcome to the club, and b) you’ll like the movement in this game. While not as polished as Titanfall 2, it’s still incredibly crisp and does movement a lot better than most other games. As of v0.4.0, wallrunning is non-magnetized and purely momentum based, but the rework appears to show an option to choose how much magnetization you get when wallrunning.

Krunker

Krunker

THIS IS A MOVEMENT BASED FPS GAME. I’m seeing a lot of bad reviews about speed-hackers and there’s no such thing. Think of it sorta like Titanfall’s movement. Slide hopping is the main movement mechanic and certain weapons and classes allow even more movement opportunities (shotgun/rocket jumping, wall jumping, wall grinding).

As someone that’s played the game for about 2 years now, I can attest to how addicting the game and its mechanics are. The community is tight-knit and welcoming (especially on Twitch), there’s market and trading features similar to CS:GO, there’s a comp scene with weekly cash-prize tournaments, there’s loads of ways to customize your game including custom mods, scopes, and overlays, and there’s an endless amount of content to be played with the thousands of custom games people have made.

Krunker is a hard game to get into. Public lobbies are full of stompers and custom games need basic understanding of game mechanics that, of course, no one tells you about. Im going to try to explain the basics of the game, in case you dont want to make your own research.

The most basic thing you need to know about is slide hoping. Its easy to download the game and in your first game get confused, seeing everyone around you flying like if they were cheaters. Most of them arent. You see, unlike in games like Quake or Counter Strike, strafing wont matter while slidehopping. Landing while crouching will make you slide, providing you a nice speed boost that you can chain to do a “slidehop”. Jump, hold shift and a few seconds after you land jump again. This is something you will do a lot. Actually, all the time. Get used to it. Also keep in mind that some classes like the SMG can walljump or “rocketjump”…? with the shotgun.

Melody’s Escape

Melody’s Escape

Melody’s Escape is a deceptively simple yet challenging obstacle-based rhythm game with a lot of potential versatility in playstyle. While still in Early Access, it has almost no technical errors and the developer is extremely active, so I would recommend it to people who enjoy rhythm games, especially people who are looking for a different type of procedurally-generated music gameplay. I am terrible at obstacle running games, but I have never ever found the platforming element of this game to be obtrusive or overwhelming because it integrates so well with the beat and feels so smooth on a sensory level.

Summary

Melody’s Escape best represents rhythm synthesizer that generates various movement keys depending on the theme and digital nature of your favorite songs. The environment is always altered between each song you choose so everything is fairly different and randomized. As such since this is a rhythm game, a lot of gameplay is created based on the music’s movement. Some parts of a song can jump from being very fast paced to having a sudden drop in movement.

Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat

Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat

I spent literally 1,175 hours on this game. It is so much fun despite it’s dying community, and I joined way after it started losing players. First thing I should say is that no matter how many new players come in and say it’s pay to win, hecc no it’s not. Premium gives you hats and other cool things while weapon skins are just weapon skins. The current version that is available is still in beta, and yet it is still extremely fun, with enough maps and weapons to last you hours upon hours of fun. Every weapon you unlock will have a different use in terms of how you play, but there are no restrictions, it’s however you choose to use them. And again, to those who take a look at one or two of the many weapons in this game and think “huh, this looks cheap” or “hey this’ll get me a lot of easy kills”, none of it will be that way (with the exception of the grenade launcher). All of the weapons have their own positives and negatives, and for an indie game I’d say it’s pretty freaking balanced, if you’re dying too much it’s because you’re new. It is in fact possible to be good at this game, and I’ve met some really really good players along the way. This game is one of the only online games I ever enjoyed, it’s honestly just so good. Another thing I’ll say is that a lot of people I know hate its community for its toxicity, but the thing is most of them are nice when you get to know them. I really do suggest you to play this game if you haven’t already, if toxicity is a problem for you then just mute the chat with F5, this game is too fun to pass by.

Mmmn~

This game…. Ooof, what should I say? I’ve played this game a loooot and there’s so many things I’m still finding about it. I mean, yeah, it’s a free game and there’s no set story line or anything to complete but something about this game keeps me still playing it.

I find the combat to be relatively simple but at the same time, it can be much more complex when you take it a step further. It’s a standard 2D platformer shooting game involving many different weapons that could be utilized to kill your foes. However, that isn’t all. Some weapons are used to get around easier, where if you know proper tricks and practice enough, you can essentially fly across from one side of the map to the other, sneaking past enemies.

Really fun game, quite addictive when you get the hang of it. Things get a little clunky when multiple characters are interacting in one animation, each throwing the other off their sequence of movements, but for the most part this is a really cool unique game I recommend.

More than worth the money, one of the most fun precision platformers out there.

The controls are tight and the levels are a blast to play through. There are a few hiccups here and there but nothing that seriously detracts from the overall experience.

To be honest this game is definitely not for everyone. If you would like to get into this game you have to spend a lot of time raising your understanding. The reason why I recommend it though is because it is actually a decent game. Probably 80% of beginners will stop playing before they get past black belt just because they feel very restrained by what they can do. In some ways this is true, but the limit to what you can do is many, many times greater than what people (beginners) think. Watching the Tori Legends as you first open the game can make you feel discouraged as you can’t even do a flip properly. It can takes YEARS in some cases to polish your skills to that level, and even then you may still not be able to do as good as you hoped because this game really depends on the mindset of the player. The physics of this game are difficult to understand and get use to. At moments you feel that you’re flying way to high to do your tricking/sparring or that your body just got 20x heavier and stopped half way through a flip. You need to understand every little effect that each joint does. People (beginners) really underestimate most of the joints just because they are not skilled/experienced enough to use them properly. This is what changes the effect of your physics and understanding of situations. Suddenly your flips and and hand spring landings are getting smoother, faster, and lower to the ground. Your vision of how you see your joints and shadow are completely overhauled. Your arsenal of moves are multiplied to an unimaginable number. You see improved and more efficient ways of overcoming a landing or counter that didn’t seem possible when you first started. Eventually you steadily become a pro at visualizing foreshadows, predictions, and problem solving. You never really realize how much you improve because it almost always felt with you.

Let me get right to the point and say I love this game. When I first started out about a year ago I felt like a toddler learning to walk, and I admit, it was a bit frustrating. Then I turned to Youtube. I learned a few basic aikido and judo (two different mods/game modes in the game) opening moves and from there my results sky-rocketted. I was flooring noobs left and right until I got to the intermediate level where (most) every player had a rudimentary understanding of how to move in the game then it was fairly evenly matched and I quickly got over myself.

Love it. Bought it back in 2016/2017 and had a really fun time. Even nowadays I come back to play it. Rn I try to get all Achievments because I like the game so much. Yeah, it also has it flaws like strange physics and Crash The Bomb Missions are really a pain in the arse. But it´s so fun to take out the outposts, free cities and a most of the challenges are also fun imo. And i don´t even want to start with the DLCs. So great. Bavarium Wingsuit so you can move around more freely and be a human attack helicopter, the boat with really strong guns and a cool look, Mechs for more fun on land. And the stories of the DLCs are maybe not the best. But they have their own charm and fit well in the story I guess. 20€ or 3€ for the next few days, it´s a really good deal
