Some kind of Trip

The grotesquely charming clay like models are the main attraction here. The gameplay itself has various issues. Such as very stiff combat (cannot move while attacking), lack of feedback (hard to tell if you’re actually hitting anything), strange key bindings (C to interact?) and various bugs and glitches. But if you are at all interested in bizarre little indie games with unique art styles, then it’s totally worth checking out for the somewhat surreal experience.

The Smugglers

The Smugglers

You will smuggle goods or protect the law. Assemble a team and take on the role of a cunning smuggler or an honest law enforcement officer once per turn. Compete against an opposing team on one of many boards. Just like in real life, each team has different victory conditions, completely opposite, making you quickly identify with your new role. Will you tactically pursue victory or will you pull out the gun and settle the matter in a rather violent manner? Remember that the decision belongs to the whole group, and you won’t be able to win alone.

Each playthrough begins with smugglers landing in a cargo drop zone, and the law guards are tasked with melting down and stopping the smugglers from making their final escape. Cover your tracks and defend your loot or try to track down and stop the smugglers from escaping. Think your side will always win? Remember that in every gang there will be at least one agent who will certainly mess up the whole game…

Warriors Of Titus - F2P

Warriors Of Titus - F2P

This is how a moba is done in VR! This game manages to marry what makes vr fun with the complexity of what you would expect in any standard MOBA. I do feel like the character’s guns could use a few more differences between them as they are a bit similar but in terms of abilities and gameplay the characters are all quite diverse.

Overall i would highly recommend you try out this game. If you arent a fan of mobas you might still find fun in this game if you enjoy shooting or a good feeling of progression.

needs polish but the visuals are overlookable as the gameplay is solid. one glaring flaw though - nobody friggin plays it and bots are boring.

Alien Hallway

Alien Hallway

Well the title says it all, Alien Hallway, to be blunt aliens in hallways, that is all there is to the game. To say it was made simple is an understatement, this game is so basic in nature that even a little child can play it.

It’s like the most basic version of lane defense/attacking that you can think of, Tug of war like game, you have no actual control over the game at all, you pretty much spawn soldiers and they walk by themselves down the hallway towards the aliens, the fighting and everything is done automatically, you have controls over the grenades and that’s it. That is it for the entire game, there is no noticeable changes to the actual gameplay, as you play you earn money which can be spent after missions to upgrade your soldiers, as the levels progress more aliens and soldiers are unlocked.

“Get ready to send marines to kill aliens that no man’s seen before!”

That, my friend, is the plot of Alien Hallway in one sentence. Sorry for spoiling it. Alien Hallway is a light strategy game where you only manage the finances and hiring troops, who handle the destruction by themselves.

Drones get you money by scavenging electronics. With money you can send marines to destroy the alien teleporter, the objective of every level. The marines are AI controlled and you can only choose, when to throw their grenades. At the same time you must not allow the aliens to destroy your base.

Megalith

Megalith

Having played this game since the PSVR beta, I must say I enjoy the gameplay to this day! It is a polished experience with a great art style and ambient sound that is immersive. The lobby filling mechanics allow for unending play sessions (against bots or players) and very rarely have I experienced connection issues. Character designs are impressive with attention to little details that you would not otherwise know are there unless you take the time to look closely. Fights against players are intense as the sense of presence becomes more clear during battles. The variety of abilities keeps each character fresh and makes for great counter selections during pregame lobby character picks.

Well polished game that feels like another VR essential title.

  • The game requires snap/smooth turning (if you turn with your body, the character’s body doesn’t turn with you)

  • Index Controller configuration isn’t the best for switching abilities. This can be changed easily. I recommend changing the ability swap control to left trigger.

  • No crouching. The game will snap you into a standing position if you crouch with your real body. This seems to be intended so that you can play seated.

  • No items to purchase mid-game for your hero (like most MOBA’s). Though you won’t be bothered by it nearly as much when you see how busy the game is even without items.

Updated Review as of 7/7/20

v2.3.5

There’s really only 3 VR Moba style games currently battling.

Cradle of Sins/Megalith/Dead Shot Heroes.

CoS came out of the gates swinging and promising the world and in the last 6 months haven’t heard a peep or an update and their game is still really early access. Megalith had the big guns behind them being made from developers with AAA experience… launched their game, patched it a couple of times and continue to ignore the community. DSH has done nothing but get better.

An amazing VR MOBA. Very well put together and addictive game play. It offers the perfect balance of strategic game play without being overwhelming. The online player base is very welcoming, but even playing solo against bots is very satisfying. Be sure to check out the discord channel where the dev is extremely active and responds to player input. You’ll also get a sense of when people are generally online and looking for match. There is a tiny bit of a learning curve when you first start, but it’s not significant and is definitely worth it. The heroes play very differently, so try a few if you’re not initially convinced. If you’ve tried MOBAs before but got turned off by the toxic community, then you should definitely try this as the players are great!

Bierzerkers

Bierzerkers

I’ve been playing Bierzerkers off and on since early Alpha - I bought into early access all the way back in July. Adding features to what was almost a perfect vanilla game has been a struggle for the devs, and it looks like they may have had some internal setbacks and personnel changes. BUT it’s still a very very fun game (think TF2 with drunk vikings).

If/when they bring back the “Domination” (cap and hold) mode back, I can easily see myself playing this a lot. The current flagship mode, which is basically a slightly more entertaining version of American football, is especially hard to balance and features some ridiculously small maps.

Ok so you’ve looked at the game and think it looks fun, but you also notice the mixed reviews. You look down and see people saying it’s pay to win and that it’s not optimized well. These arguments do not hold weight. Here is the truth about the game, while it does have one major problem that’s being worked on as we speak, I would like to show you how this is a good game that is worth your time.

First we’ll start with what the game is. It is essentially a a mix of Medieval Team Fortress 2 and rugby, and yes that sounds weird. You have a team of five, with different classes, carry and throw sheep into the other teams goal. It sounds strange, but it’s a fucking blast. This is a game where good team work really counts. The game also ran really well for me, it did crash once but I was right back in in under a minute.

Bloodline Champions

Bloodline Champions

This game is simply unique. A Multiplayer Online Battle Arena in its most strict sense (if not the most traditional), you and your team have one and only objective: surviving the enemy team and slaughtering it.

Bloodline Champions bears a nearly infinite competitive potential that is often sadly overlooked because of the mistakes of its publisher and developer team, which do not seem to invest enough in the stability of this shiny, hidden gem. The community is mostly unusually nice (compared to your average MOBA - you can’t expect everybody to be nice on the internet, can you?) if somewhat sparse in numbers.

Sadly dead. Battlerite will probably never be able to take your place in my heart 3. If only the devs actually tried to make a Bloodline Champions 2 instead of whatever they’re doing now with Battlerite.

EDIT:

Bloodline Champions used to be my bread and butter, I played the game hundreds if not thousands of hours outside of steam too. Battlerite is not a bad game, but you just can’t compare it to Bloodline Champions. In Bloodline Champions everything felt more consequential, I can still imagine the combo’s in my head and the general flow of the games, all the bloodlines had a specific feel to them due to their skillsets (and AESTHETHIC) and it just feels lost in Battlerite. Though it was also less accessible than Battlerite due to it’s unforgiving nature. It catered to a smaller group of players that really really loved the game.
