Backstory:

Over the years the governments of the Earth became increasingly hostile and fractured. Alliances were formed and broken. Eventually 12 factions emerged in a semi-stable world order (or houses as they are now known). By this time the scale of weaponry available to the 12 factions was too powerful to use without exterminating all life on Earth. Consequently, when WWIII erupted, it wasn’t a kinetic war. It was an information and propaganda war that lasted well over a century. Intelligence agencies had taken over news and entertainment and shut down free speech entirely. Every piece of information, or rather disinformation, was curated. Nobody knew what was true or what was false.

The absence of a meaningfully informed population left the megacorporations free to do as they pleased. With regulatory capture, they simply pushed through laws and regulations that benefited them and their shareholders in the short term. The constant flux of “truth” in the disinformation campaigns made long term planning nearly moot, and also made it easy for the megacorporations to create and push their own narratives.

Environmental standards were dismantled, and all laws regarding genetic engineering were erased. Biotech companies produced ever more genetically modified plants and animals that required ever harsher pesticides, herbicides, and stronger antibiotics.

Slowly the Earth was poisoned. Superbugs became more common, wiping out millions of people, nevermind the costs to domestic animals and wildlife. GMO plants became invasive species, destroying pristine environments and disrupting ecosystems. People became sicker and sicker as agro chemicals poisoned their water supplies while fisheries suffered as the lakes, rivers, and oceans were poisoned. Species were going extinct at alarming rates.

Eventually there was a crack in the social world zeitgeist and people began to reject government and corporate narratives that were clearly the opposite of reality. Mass protests turned into riots that were mostly crushed by government forces and private security forces hired by corporations. But for every casualty, the movements attracted 10x more people.

Behind the scenes the intelligence agencies ramped up misinformation campaigns against each other, blaming other factions for domestic and international problems. Following suit, the megacorps began environmental campaigns to support protesters against their competition.

Social cohesion in large urban centres was breaking down. Logistics chains for food, fuel, and consumer goods were crumbling. Protests got bigger and bigger and spilled over into suburban areas as well and degenerated into city-wide riots and looting.

Peak violence happened when the Jodon faction launched a limited nuclear strike against the Tydroid corporation’s main production city, Berlin, in order to satisfy public outcry that was flamed by a disinformation campaign from the Yonic corporation, Tydroid’s largest competitor.

Rather than continue the violence on Earth, the various factions and megacorps launched strikes against each other’s satellites in order to disrupt communications and push their own narratives.

The situation had become desperate, and in 2247 the 12 factions formed a discussion group called “The Houses” to bring an end to the worldwide violence. For several years they debated and discussed, until in 2251 they arrived at the conclusion that they’d all failed humanity, and that the Earth was doomed, poisoned beyond the point of no return. They would need to head for the stars if mankind were to survive.

Building starships to transport colonists would take 20 intense years, but not everyone would get to go.

Selection of people who would go to the stars took place under the authority of the technetronic elite in the 12 Houses. Only the best and brightest would have a seat reserved for them and their families. Billions would be left behind on the poisoned, dying Earth.

As the selections progressed, it became increasingly apparent to those that would be left behind that they weren’t going to be chosen. Human rights protests across the planet turned into full scale riots with many casualties. The world was thrown into chaos and society began to break down (even more).

But for the colonists all that was left behind. They would drift into cryosleep for a seeming eternity only to wake up as if no time had passed. There would be weeping as some cryopods had failed during the long journey, leaving only crusty bones and ashes where a living human should have been.

Three of the 12 Houses, House Jodon, Reubo and Ephrati, would colonise planets in 3 nearby solar systems in a distant sector of the galaxy. The fates of the other 9 Houses are unknown.

THE PLANETS, THE SIGNAL, THE MISSION…

Three of the 12 Houses, House Jodon, Reubo and Ephrati, would colonise planets in 3 nearby solar systems in a distant sector of the galaxy. The fates of the other 9 Houses are unknown.

THE PLANETS

House Jodon landed on and colonised Lionis. This volcanic planet has 1 side perpetually facing its sun, making only a thin band around the planet habitable. Nevertheless, rich and fertile soil along that thin band would ensure their survival.

House Reubo landed on and colonised Aquarion. This planet is over 97% covered by water. Adapting to their new environment would require innovative solutions for land use and infrastructure. Unsurprisingly, science and innovation are highly valued by the Reubos who pride themselves on being rational and practical.

House Ephrati landed on and colonised Verdis. This lush and green planet is inhabited by many predatory animals and dangerous foliage.

THE SIGNAL

Several years ago a strange and indecipherable signal was received. It was clearly created by intelligent life and was traced back to a planet orbiting a nearby brown dwarf star. Speculation was rampant. What or who created it? What did it mean? What did it say?

Each House prepared small scouting missions to investigate. This was no mean feat as resources for interstellar travel were highly scarce. Expectations were similarly high.

THE INVESTIGATION

Initial reports from the missions were impressive. The planet was rich in natural resources beyond their most hopeful expectations. Mining operations would be wildly profitable and would alleviate strict resource rationing back home on Lionis, Aquarion and Verdis.

It was the Ephrati who first discovered an ancient tower, presumably built by the same intelligent life that sent the signal. The tower stood high, disappearing into the clouds above.

Venturing into the tower on foot, the Ephrati expedition team marveled at the architecture and strange symbols and pictures carved into the walls, floors and ceilings. But it was one in particular that caught their attention. It was written in an old Earth language. “Taurion.” Who could the beings that built this be? And why would an old Earth tongue be written in here? Speculation, conjecture, and wild conspiracy theories were rampant on the net.

Other ancient buildings would also be found scattered around the planet.

THE MISSION

Back home each House prepared to send people to Taurion. Excitement was high and people eagerly began training for the challenges that would await them on Taurion.

BoomTown! Deluxe

The game seems great and it has so much potential to be a great game, it’s just a shame the developers couldn’t decide on a game element and instead they dumped way too much mechanics into the game and none of them has the QOL aspects to truly make this a great game. The game sells for a decent price making it a worthy purchase you will get more than your moneys worth of fun and entertainment from this game, so this game is worth it from the get go, i just wished they did more with this game it really has the or in this case had the potential to be something quite unique, so whether you want the game or a +1 in game count or perfect games you have it here with this title.

To preface this, I won this on steamgifts.com.

Boom Town is a fairly simple simulation game where you build a mining town and go mining using explosives. You essentially pick out the spots on the map where you think there is gold set explosives then drive around the map with your truck to pick up the gold. You then take your profits improve your truck, the town, and your explosives.

The concept is pretty simple and as well as the gameplay. There isn’t much of a fail state, it is more of just trying to complete the scenario as quickly as possible. The games mechanics all seem to work properly together and it is a fun relaxing game. There are some issues however, notably that it is a grindy game and the core gameplay isn’t that good to keep you wanting to come back to it time after time.

Cosmoteer: Starship Architect & Commander

Cosmoteer: Starship Architect & Commander

_The ultimate starship designer,

powered by a deep game simulation…_

Cosmoteer is a starship design, simulation, and battle game. Design a fleet of ships by laying out individual rooms and corridors, including cannons, lasers, shields, and thrusters. Battle other starships to earn bounties and use that money to expand your own ship. A dynamic crew and combat simulation makes every design decision important and interesting.

Best-In-Class Starship Designer

Design the greatest starship ever made using an interface that is easy-to-learn yet incredibly flexible.

Build your ship by placing individual modules onto a grid—weapons, shields, engines, reactors, crew’s quarters, and more! Few restrictions and no pre-defined, creativity-limiting hull shapes mean you can create almost any ship you can imagine.

The exterior of a ship is like an artist’s canvas, but it requires no drawing ability to make your ship look great! Simply pick a color and texture to customize your ship’s basic appearance, then optionally add decals such as shapes, symbols, and letters to give it extra visual flourish. Painting your ship is free and has no effect on gameplay.

Intelligent Crew Simulation

Every starship is operated by a crew numbering from half-a-dozen to hundreds—sometimes more than a thousand—of individually-simulated people.

A ship’s crew is its lifeblood. Crew not only operate its controls, but they also carry supplies such as ammunition and power batteries to weapons and systems. When a weapon wants to shoot, the crew go pick up ammo or batteries at an ammo factory or reactor and bring them to the weapon—all simulated in real-time.

Crew are pretty smart and act mostly on their own, which is a good thing since there can be so many. Your crew are smart enough to figure out what controls need operating, what systems need ammo or power, and how best to get around your ship. They’re even smart enough to avoid routes that are already jammed with other people.

The crew simulation is what makes starship design so interesting, because how fast a cannon can shoot or how long a shield can stay charged depends directly on how quickly crew can deliver ammo or power to it. As a player, you’ll have to think carefully about how you design your ship’s layout so that it operates at peak efficiency without exposing its more vulnerable (and sometimes explosive!) modules.

Physics-Driven Flight & Combat

Every ship is part of a 2D physics simulation, and the position and orientation of its thrusters realistically affects its movement. Small ships with lots of thrusters are fast and nimble, while large ships with proportionally fewer thrusters are naturally slower and more difficult to maneuver.

Weapons obey the laws of the physics simulation. Whether or not a cannon or laser hits an enemy depends not on a dice roll but upon the trajectory of the shot and the size and speed of the enemy.

Damage is tracked module-by-module, and each module can be individually targeted & destroyed. Some modules can explode, causing collateral damage to the surrounding modules, so you’ll have to think carefully about where you place your reactors and munitions. Too close to the edge and they’ll be exposed to enemy fire; too far and your weapons won’t fire fast enough.

Ships can break apart into multiple pieces when their connecting modules are destroyed. Usually this will be a crippling blow, but any piece that has a control room, power, and thrusters can continue to operate independently, potentially remaining a threat to the enemy.

Single-Player

You are a bounty hunter, traveling from sector to sector, hunting down renegade enemies and destroying them.

Earn money for every enemy vanquished. Use your income to repair and upgrade your own fleet, growing bigger and more powerful with every victory.

Explore a galaxy in search of bigger and more powerful enemies. The galaxy will crumble before your almighty armada!

Or play in a creative sandbox mode with unlimited credits if being a bounty hunter isn’t your cup of Earl Grey—the only limit is your imagination! (And the power of your computer.)

Multiplayer

Battle your friends and enemies in real-time, pitting your designs against theirs. Compete to be the master “Starship Architect & Commander” against up to 7 other players in Team vs Team and Free For All battles.

Configure a variety of game options by specifying number of ships, total funds, game speed, and other options. Play tiny skirmishes, massive fleet battles, or anywhere in between.

Play online in public or private lobbies. Local Area Network and direct I.P. address connections are also supported.

Important Note: Multiplayer is NOT SUPPORTED between 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems!

And more!

Everything you should expect from a PC game, including customizable controls, windowed and borderless display modes, support for high-resolution displays, no mandatory locked framerates, and dozens of other options to tailor the game to your own preferences.

It’s easy to share your ship designs with friends and other players. Ships are saved as simple PNG image files and can be easily shared on social media like Twitter, Discord, and the official forums—just drag-and-drop the image from your browser right into Cosmoteer and the ship will be instantly playable!

A powerful modding framework lets mods change almost any part of the game data, opening up a universe of possibilities beyond the base game. A mods manager makes it easy to install and uninstall mods created by the Cosmoteer community.

Unobtrusive tutorials that don’t interrupt gameplay and are easy to dismiss or turn off altogether. There’s no special “tutorial level” you need to play through—the context-sensitive tips are built-in to the main Bounty Hunter mode.

Structura

Structura

This is a niche game intended for a small group of people that enjoy the concept of turning DOS into a game, and manually handling every aspect of base building and logistics through text commands - in lieu of having situational action buttons that figure what you are trying to do when you aim at x thing.

I am not one of those people. I don’t know any of those people.

But I do hope the devs find their audience.

I think this game is simple, easy and interesting.

However, I have decided the name appropriately, so I want to change it. Let me know if the developer knows.

Thank you.

Great basic space builder game. Unable to get last achievement because game will not do tutorial after initial colony so I can not do achievements if I do not know what they are?? Have to build 5 different colonies to complete final achievement?? No way to launch to next colony from the first that I can figure out. Do not know how to delete saved colonies…game has good bones, but needs added features and accessories. Will update/edit comments upon game update.

Gun Bombers

Gun Bombers

I am addicted to this game. 59 hours in, and I still want more. I got 3, so I could play with my kids, and they destroyed me. So I decided to practice in single player mode, and I am having more fun trying to beat my high scores than I was playing multiplayer. The addicting parts are 1) finding gems or gold, and 2) trying different strategies to last longer.

Admittedly the graphics are not very good, but the gameplay is fantastic and devilishly hard.

Real player with 168.0 hrs in game

This is a fantastic throwback to the original Mine Bombers. Got a copy for myself, my brother and one of my freinds, convinced a few more to get it and had an awesome time playing. I don’t generally write reviews but this game deserves it. I highly anticipate what features come out for it in the future as it is early access.

This gets a huge reccomend from me, get it, grow the community I want to blow of more people.

downsides

You will have to forward ports 55555 in order to host.

it does not get along with certain antivirus programs for some dumb reason.
