Miasma Caves

Miasma Caves

The gameplay of Miasma Caves is very simple: Explore a cave, find treasure, escape alive to sell said treasure in town, repeat.

The Cons:

  • No Automap (for an exploration game this is a huge drawback)

  • Intermediate cave levels are a bottleneck in difficulty (rocks fall, everybody dies faints)

  • Not much of a story

  • A few minor bugs

The Pros:

  • Over 150 different treasure items of 4 different categories

  • Town can be developed

  • A lot of variety in available tools, which allows for different approaches of exploration.

I have played enough Miasma Caves to recommend it. You play a dragon-lady who spelunks a procedurally-generated cave in search of treasure and you’re a pacifist, so that means that you don’t attack any of the monsters inside. But you still can get hurt (such as from cave-ins, and falls, and the titular miasma), and there’s still a challenge in seeing how far you can go whilst getting out alive! It’s a fun game and I recommend it to anyone, especially those who loved Leila “Woofle” Wilson’s soundtrack in Freedom Planet; some of the greatness in that soundtrack is carried over in this game.

Fossil Hunters

Fossil Hunters

I don’t like multiplayer games. When I play games, I play them by myself alone in a room with minimal human contact, I am a cretin.

Fossil Hunters has such a good understanding of what makes people work together that I honestly don’t mind it and it came as a pleasant surprise. When I play it with my friends it feels like we’re working as a team, taking on different jobs and actually helping one another out instead of finding ways to one-up each other. I was also impressed with just how polished the game is, especially considering my friends and I actively tried to break it only a few minutes after playing…

Gem Rush

Gem Rush

This is the digital version of the best selling board game…Gem Rush.

I highly recommend this game for all ages as not only a challenging enough casual game, but one with enough complexity to make it incredibly fun and enjoyable. You can pick it up and leave it anytime, and resume whenever you like. It is multiplayer, and you can play up to 7 players, of which all can be yourself or you can assign bots with 4 differing strength levels. This game has much grown on me, become my weekly gameplay. I admire the “Labor of Love” in the sense that the developer continues to update, polish and refine the overall game as years pass. I would give it a try, as it is well worth $10. 😊

Good Game

This is a board game that has made a faithful reiplementation into a digital form. As a board game, I’m going to say it is not something for people who don’t particuarlly like board games. This game avoids many of the fiddily bigts of setup and tear down and rules checking

SantaCraft

SantaCraft

I’m a big fan of Milkbag Games. They make fun, relaxing games with a lot of thought and creativity in them just for the player’s enjoyment! Santacraft was a lot of fun to play. I was hooked and couldn’t stop. My desire to completely clear the map will probably send me back into the game very soon! Music, characters, and pop culture references are all on point!

EDIT for 2021 update: Love all the new stuff added, including a way to keep building! Thank you so much, Owen and Matt for making SantaCraft even more fun!

A perfectly witty and wholesome Christmas game just in time for the holidays! Definitely worth the $5!

On top of being fun for me, I’ve found that it is a great way to teach my 6 year old to use a mouse as he finds controllers too difficult and has given up on other games like Minecraft. This game is right up his alley with the cute characters as well as incorporating the crafting and building that he loves to do!

Outpost Engineer

Its a lot like Evospace..

Mine and cook ore into metal bars then use it to make components for more advanced products after you researched the blueprints. The game is mostly about building structures to place your machines and organize the logistic of your factory.

Sounds are awful

Graphics too

I still had fun playing it

Cattails | Become a Cat!

Cattails | Become a Cat!

There are two kinds of gamers: those who can enjoy life sims, and those who cannot. Some people need the game to show them “this is what your goal is,” and others are very happy to invent their own goals regardless of whether or not the game gives you one. If you’re in that latter category, then by all means, I recommend this game to you. Especially if you like cats. Otherwise… you’ll probably find yourself growing bored right after the tutorial.

Although I feel like this was pretty ingenious–of course you have no goal at first. You’re a housecat that was dumped off into the middle of nowhere! Your first few days should be spent learning how to survive. THEN you can come up with something to do. (And the game provides you with a main quest a few days later, so there’s that.)

If you haven’t gotten Stardew Valley yet, get that instead…but check this game out after you’re done with it and wait for a sale.

Presentation:

Great music. Decent pixel art for he environment. Although I’m not a fan of the character portraits. I would have preferred it looked like the stylized digitally drawn characters in the main menu.

Main Story:

What you can consider the main story is the Temple at the near center of the map that requires you to gather unique resources and items from all over the map to “restore the balance” and revive the Forest Guardian. Gamplay wise it’s a standard affair. What makes Cattails unique is that there are little puzzle rooms that you have to do after completing a bundle. Half are decent at best puzzles and the other half are boring combat trials that require a key that can only be received by having good relations with other cat colonies. There 6 bundles with 4 milestones- for completing the first, third, fifth, and last.

Dig to the Stars

Dig to the Stars

You can complete the game, i.e. get to the end of the story but there is a broken achievement - to bypass radiation levels without the Robot Radiation upgrade

! basically blindly obliterate the block (see Strafing Cubes below).

Dig to the Stars is … a thing that exists. The game is very rough around the edges, sometimes annoyingly so, you’d think it is a first game. The game offers barely any story and almost no explanation on how anything works which applies to controls as well as upgrades. Controls would feel almost intuitive if the game was a mobile game.

Real player with 13.5 hrs in game

I was half enjoying cutting rocks up with a laser, then my progress was halted by an insurmountable, game-breaking design flaw.

There is no way to upgrade your robot to be able to mine radiated caverns without GOING BELOW THOSE CAVERNS.

So yeah, don’t buy this.

Also, the dev changed names to distance themselves from their other games but left the bundle of those games on their store? I don’t get it either.
