Abstractanks

Edit: More bigger maps!

My first!

Just played the first handful of missions and a random battle and I am enjoying it immensely. The type of game I wish I could make if I had the time and the patience. The quick pickup and play gameplay is awesome, I am never one who enjoys the tedious aspect of resource management (I prefer Sudden Strike to Starcraft). At 7 bucks, give it a try to help encourage more of this in the future.

A very cool neon rts game. I could only reccomend to brighten up the levels a bit, because it’s a bit hard to see what you’re doing.

Bad North: Jotunn Edition

Bad North: Jotunn Edition

I’ve heard some negative criticism and some positives about the game and I really want to voice my opinion on this game because I feel like the devs have something really REALLY special here, it’s absolutely worth your time even if you may not get a lot of mileage out of it.

Bad North is a deliberately paced game broken up in to two segments.

  • The action phase of the game takes place on the many procedurally generated islands in the game, you choose which commanders to bring (this usually boils down to the same 4 commanders you’ve sunk all your coins in to, unless you’re going for a specific achievement) and then ships with various viking troops slowly sail towards the shores. There’s a big rock/paper/scissors element going on here where shields counter archers, archers counter unshielded units, and pikes counter… well everything without a bow lol. It’s really fun trying to defend all the buildings on each island. It’s worth noting, your mission on each island is merely surviving the onslaught of enemy troops. Keeping the buildings in tact is optional, although, you should strive to keep every building standing if you hope to get enough coin to upgrade all your units enough for the late game.

A delightful roguelite real time tactics game.

What I enjoy about this game:

  • Cute graphics and sound effect.

  • Remarkable details. See this wonderful article from Rock Paper Shotgun for how the devs design their little soldiers in this game.

  • Very friendly to newbies in RTT games like me. It has only three unit classes and seven enemy types. How each unit class/enemy/trait/item/skill functions are mostly intuitive and easy to understand after seeing it once or twice in real action. Also, you deploy your units on a grid-based map and they plan the route and fight automatically. And the game even slows down time when you select a unit to give you more reflex time. You can almost play it as a turn-based strategy game.

Death Crown

Death Crown

This is a simple, yet fast paced, game that takes me back to retro game vibes.

The main thing that pulled me in was the style of cut-scenes.

The graphics, while all 2-D pixelated, are quite enticing.

The artwork is dark medieval, and the color schemes are variable.

You beat levels to earn diamonds, to spend on upgrades.

You can upgrade gold mines, defense towers, or troop barracks.

Gold mines earn gold, towers turret intruders, barracks spawn your army.

You place the three buildings across the grid, strategically, to gain territory.

I was on the edge fist, but this is actually an awesome space & resource centric RTS–the famous Z by the Bitmap Brothers comes to mind–but Death Crown is much more minimalistic.

The in-game graphics are unusual but cool looking, however, at times it’s a difficult to see certain things in the heat of the battle (esp. in the human campaign DLC which features a lot more terrain types).

It takes some time figuring out the minute details of the simple but not really intuitive controls but this is part of the game, I think. I really like the music (which is rare) and the black-and-white line art cut scenes. However, the story is a bit vague, and only shown not told.

Neither a plus or a minus at this stage, but I think the game needs rebalancing in favour of the creeps as the level tends to drag on too long (for me at least). Notwithstanding, graphics are fine and everything seems to work as it should.

The basics for a good game are there. There are some interesting new concepts, such as ‘no go" areas in the mazing that can gradually be bought back in exchange for core integrity and the “nuking” of various map areas when a creep gets through.

I will watch with interest.

Data Defense

This game is very entertaining, defenetly worth it’s price! I have over 90 hours right now and am still not tored of it. You can try out new strategies, play survival if you don’t want to think too much or play the campaign mode with it’s challenge servers, where you need to think and react to specific circumstances.

Graphics 10/10

Music 10/10

Gameplay 9/10

Fun 12/10 ;)

A very beautiful, simple and yet extraordinary indie game.

If you get stuck on a level or have questions about the gameplay, I wrote a guide about this game.

Data Defense is a simple tower defense game that emphasizes interesting gameplay over glitzy graphics, and it does a pretty good job of doing so. You’ll see a lot of the staples of tower defense traditions at work here - predicted pathing that changes responsively, different sorts of enemies that fulfill different roles, etc - but the game also offers a quasi-RPG-esque quality in that you only get so many types of towers to work with, and they’re sub-slotted into various roles. This forces you to examine the map and the towers best suited for that battle; the wide-open map with the speed up/speed down zones (which affect both the enemy AND your towers) plays very differently than the tight path, for example.

Changing my review back to positive, as the developer fixed the issue. A lot of levels were unattainable, now they are.

So anyway, basic tower defense game, with some pros and some cons.

The biggest pro is that it works, far too many tower defense games on Steam are broken or incomplete. This one seems to be pretty solid.

The look is also a positive for me, though it will not be to everyone’s tastes. It resembles the old vectrex games, for those who remember that.

The game has an interesting but limited array of foes. According to the developer, the spawner tailors the kind of attackers it generates to counter your defenses, and it does seem to have some effect.

I left negative reviews in the past because the game originally had quite a few bugs and issues.

But, the developer continues to release patches and address issues that are discovered.

It’s a fun tower defense game, I enjoy it quite a bit for the price.

Hope to see more features and maps come in the future, or for the game to be open for community mods and maps.

Zombie Commander

I am not happy with this purchase. It is suddenly way to difficult to win with the winter weather and vaccine cure both should be option to turn off. NO activity in discussion at all and no advice nothing. Ruins the experience. Suggestion…slow the vaccine bar down a little ruins the game.

This is my first thumbs down on a game.

I will adjust this review down the road if they change things

Galactic Merchant

Galactic Merchant

Galactic Merchant is sci-fi business simulator (aka space tycoon game). Starting from small startup with single cargo ship you can grow your company to intergalactic monopoly.

To do so, you could trade, prospect, produce goods, smuggle, rob, give bribes, engage in politics, save lives and use many other options.

During the game you will learn many economical concepts and built-in calculation sheet will help you to use them in practice.

Make business in galaxy-wide economic system

Each planet is unique market and all of the markets are interdependent.

All of them are influenced by your decisions, actions of other market players as well as events, which happen all the time.

The economic conditions are dynamic and you have to adapt in order to be profitable.

Manage your company

You can achieve your strategic goals by growing company assets: ships, factories and personnel.

Not always more means simply better - with upgrades you can get better margins on your trades and make a good profit even on lower trade volume.

At some point your company may be too big to mange by yourself alone. In such case you can hire managers and directors to run parts of your company on your behalf. However, you still bear responsibility for company and you need to evaluate your leadership team and make changes to keep up to speed.

Still want more?

At the moment you become intergalactic corporation you will be able to acquire other companies to grow even faster.

Plan your investments and cut costs

There are multiple options for you to make profit over time.

You need to balance short-term and long-term strategies. What brings money now, may have bad consequences in future.

Sometimes you have to spend money at present to get profit in several quarters ahead.

Make profit

To help you explore different options there is fully functional calculation sheet to aid your decisions.

There is also comprehensive help, which will help you to sharpen your economic skills and apply them in practice.

I came in expecting the simplicity of Galcon Fusion, but got something in between Galcon Fusion and Sins of a Solar Empire (though closer to Galcon). This is a pretty good complexity level as you can understand everything. By contrast, in a game like Sins of a Solar Empire, I don’t really get it all, so I end up doing stuff because it seems right, not because I really understand the nuances, which makes strategy a bit dissapointing. This is partially the games fault, and partially my fault.

The first third of the tutorial (what I’m calling the incredibly short campaign/story mode) is nightmareishly painfully slow to get through at first, but gets much better about a third of the way through. They overly spell things out for you, while not explaining other things your become interested in out of bordom that they shouldn’t be showing at all. I think a single page overview of all iconography and abilities (without going into strategy) would have been more ideal.

Infectra

Infectra

This is a good game, but it has potential to become an even greater game.

Here are some of the Pros and Cons when you buy this game

Pros

  • Fun and Challenging Levels

  • Strategy is needed to complete the levels

  • Good Cutscenes

  • Good Graphics

Cons

  • Maximum of four buildings can be built at any one time

  • Sometimes it requires more luck than strategy to complete the levels because of the building queue system.

  • The Ion Cannon is unusable in some of the levels because by the time you get to use it, nearly all the infected have destroyed either the control gates or barriers and powerplants.

Great quality, smooth visuals and challenging missions - all wrapped in a cool storyline.

Instant recommendation, just a must have.

I hate power plants though xD
