Pirate Island Mini Golf VR

Pirate Island Mini Golf VR

I know it’s early access but damn this game is bad. First and foremost, there must be something done about the atrociously poor frame rate. I am using an RTX 2080 and an i9 processor and I was consistently in the 20s to 30s fps with only 90% supersampling in Steam. And there are also no graphics options in this game. I imagine the frame rate issues might be due to the ocean water, which I thought looked very unrealistic anyway. Another issue I encountered was that you have to hold onto the club. Because if you drop it, it will sink right through the greens on the putting course and then you have go find another one. Hitting the ball is also a mess and doesn’t feel right at all. I will be removing this game from my Steam library. Maybe a long time in the future I will look at it again. But for now, this game is not ready for a release even on early access.

Mini Golf Buddies

Mini Golf Buddies

MIni Golf Buddies is, unfortunately, a perfect storm of all the elements that I hate in a game. Music and sound effects are either on or off, no volume control. Controls are reasonably straightforward, but on some holes the dividing line between success and disaster is both razor thin and unmarked. Customization is minimal – there is no option to run in a window rather than full screen, and it’s not a game that requires full screen for its blocky graphics.

Most–and worst–of all, it stops you every few holes begging for a 5-star review; after the third one, I clicked on the option for 1-4 stars and rather than being allowed to leave a less-than-five-star rating, I was asked to email them with what I thought was wrong with it rather than being allowed to leave a rating.

Hit a ball into a hole, it’s golf, putting exclusively, it’s mini-golf, play with a friend, it’s mini-golf buddies! You know what to expect, also you can collect coins and get stars too, so that’s fun

Walkabout Mini Golf VR

What a hidden gem! This is an absolute MUST have for VR, especially if you are playing with friends. You’re going to think I’m kidding, but this stands next to Pavlov and Alyx in my top three VR games.

While so many games feel like tech demos, this plays smoothly and accurately, has great multiplayer, has fun collectables, it’s got charm - It’s just an actual finished game that feels like it was made with love.

Not the mention the new map added for free which was awesome and introduced a new gameplay mechanic as well. I can’t wait for the next one. I’m writing this review because the devs really deserve it!

This is the best VR Mini Golf game out. I really like the map designs and searching for new golf balls and looking for clues on the (hard) courses to unlock new putters really adds more to the game.

I had bought this game a couple years ago when I had first got a VR and just decided to download anything that was free that looked fun. Honestly I don’t understand why I chose a golf game considering how god awful I am at golf most of the time I can’t even hit the ball. Although playing a golf game in VR is quite fun to do especially during quarantine and you can’t actually play golf in a real place. Note that this game is mini-golf style golf not the standard golf but, hey I love mini-golf and if anything it’s easier and a lot more fun. Also note that this game is free but only gives you access to two courses. The additional three are DLCs however, there are difficulties and various gamemodes.

I really liked playing the 18 hole mini-golf course here. It was a lot of fun despite some issues. I played this on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers, I started out with my head barely above the ground. So when I see that error, I always do the Windows 7 compatability trick and started the game straight from Steam VR and it worked! You press Y or B to change the length of your club (up or down). You teleport by clicking on your thumbstick. Unfortunately, you cannot reset view within the game so you’ll need a roomscale setup. Game played fine for the most part (visuals/sounds/gameplay).

Mad Tracks

Mad Tracks

I remember having spent hundreds of hours just with the demo of this game back in 2007 when my internet was still piss poor and somehow found mad tracks on a compact disk.

There were only 3 tracks: Training Day, Foosball and Fast Food

Sending rockets to my opponents while they are taking a speed bump and getting them off the track on Training Day was my speciality, Foosball was Rocket League but even nastier and funnier, and I think I probably found some hidden shortcuts in Fast Food.

The game went quite under the radar and even finding a digital copy of the game was hard (I’m not talking about the wii version or the shady russian iso) but now it’s on Steam, multi-languages, with an handy remote play feature to play with your friends (since there’s no multiplayer for the PC version).

Vertiginous Golf

Vertiginous Golf

This game is really pretty cool. It’s a minigolf game with a really cool fantasy-esque atmosphere and neat little contraptions all over. You build up power with swings and can use either a rewind button or a little jet thingie on your ball to move it slightly where you want. At first it seems like rewind is incredibly OP but the game gets fairly challenging and fairly fast. To the point it might even get a bit frustrating to some people. Luckily I was playing it with my girlfriend so I did honestly have a good time watch us both screw up a few times. The game’s got pretty good graphics and a neat art style and is surprisingly not too computer intensive too.

The Good

Vertignious Golf is a gorgeous game, both conceptually and stylistically. The game controls aren’t difficult to grasp, the music and sounds are well designed, and the interface is nice and clean, not interfering with the graphics – did I mention they were gorgeous? Oh, yes, I did.

The hummingbird and rewind features are welcome additions to the basic gameplay of minigolf. In fact, given the complexity of some of the holes, they’re requirements. The availability of a wedge in addition to a putter is welcome, adding a level of strategy absent in other minigolf games.

Graviter

Graviter

Graviter is a simple-to-understand but rather difficult gravity based puzzle game. The premise is odd, you take on the role of the object trying to search for your lost cat after it was eaten and then spat out by a black hole; you will need to cross paths with all of the paw prints on screen from level to level, presumably following the footsteps to find the cat. Helping you along the way are other planets that help to alter the gravity fields around to maneuver around the screen.

This game is a simple concept, but done very cleanly, with quite a few puzzles. I’ve only put a little bit of time into it, but I already know how the mechanics work. It’s not a difficult game to play, but it takes thought to solve. There are definitely more than one solution on almost all puzzles, but it’s more about your ability to manipulate gravity + picking the right time to use your pauses than a normal “puzzle game”.

TLDR: Clean art, clean mechanics, interesting puzzles (and many of them). Great deal for less than $10.

tiny, simple but clever game based on physics

Real player with 1.1 hrs in game

Unparalleled game-play with sophisticated mechanics and alluring visuals. The perfect game for the average or experienced, proficient golfer. While incomplex at first glance, even the most astute mathematician may struggle with the troublesome trigonometric functions required to usurp dominance over some levels. Over all i rate this game 8.237 / 9.487.
