Mecha Knights: Nightmare
As someone who loves the mecha genre, I was excited for Mecha Knights: Nightmare’s release, and I was not disappointed. There is a lot of customization within the game, allowing for many different builds - though explosives are the current meta. The randomized drops foster experimentation with new equipment and weapons, often leading to discoveries you would not have found by relying on stats alone. The many types of weapons having a distinct feel and varying use making your choices feel like they actually matter, which is something often lacking in games, where every weapon has a very similar feel.

tl;dr: I really like this game. For $15 it isn’t bad at all.
I have some issues with it, related almost entirely to the story, not the game itself. I’ll grade it in a normal SPAG (Story, Performance, Aesthetics, Gameplay) method. It will be mostly my thoughts on the story element (IMO) issues, though.
=== Story ===
So the story in this game is bad, but in a manner that is so inoffensive I cannot tell if it wants to set itself up in the next game as being satire or serious. I’m assuming there will be a next game, if only to introduce swords and such.

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead
Definitely one of the best simulator games this platform has to offer. Besides DayZ mod you can do so much more like Wasteland (base building and pvp gamemode), make custom missions, player made maps and playing around in the armory with your friends in an online server. Pretty good singleplayer, although I think the multiplayer with all it’s gamemodes is where this game truly stands out. If you missed out on the hype and still want to play DayZ mod, I would highly recommend Overpoch by CCG. Either Taviana or Chernarus are both great maps for this mod. Taviana being the best in my opinion.

Brought it for DayZ
Played for at least 2000 hours (Steam didnt count most of it due to me not launching it through there)
Most of my time spent in this game was playing dayz epoch, which is hands down my most favorite game (or mod, whatever) of all time, it is basically DayZ (google it if you dont know what it is, which in that case you must of been living under a rock) with base building, YOU CANT GET ANY BETTER!
I also played all of the single player campaigns and DLC campaigns, which are good and all, but not the best story.

Brutal Fate
Brutal Fate is a fast-paced ultra-violent retro first-person shooter inspired by 80’s and 90’s sci-fi movies. As a marine from the Global Order Alliance sent to Callisto to take over the local corporate government, you find yourself surrounded by legions of demonic alien invaders and you must fight for your survival.
It blends the best features of classic shooters such as non-linear level design, a huge arsenal and large enemy variety with some modern aspects, making it a unique mix that does not try to hang on nostalgia, but be something of it’s own.
This game is a finely crafted first-person experience designed to be the most satisfying and detailed possible. Enemies that can be dismembered and exploded into pieces, destroyable environments including lamps, cars and even trees. All many details that makes you really feel like you are in a real living world.
Do you want to know more?
-
This game features a huge arsenal of weapons that may require the use of all your keyboard numbers to scroll through. We got battle rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, smart missiles, laser rifles, you name it.
-
Immerse yourself in a 3 episode campaign, with branching patches, multiple endings, and a story full of twists.
-
Fight an entire circus of monstrosities, carnivorous demons, zombie-like cultists, shuffling supernatural incomprehensible abominations from beyond, and corporate henchmen that want to make sure you won’t leave this haunted colony alive after seeing everything you just did. Just like in classic fps style, each enemy type acts like a piece of chess made to compensate the weakness of another. Gib them into delicious meat pieces, burn them to ashes, almost every enemy features locational damage and dozens of death animations, including different deaths for different weapons used.
-
Explore huge non-linear levels, look for secrets to find special rare alternative ammo types for your weapons, health and armor upgrades, and much more. No “procedural generated levels”, no faux-retro arena level design, just handcrafted levels by someone with over 10 years of experience in classic game level design. Get the feeling of exploring believable highly interactive locations, fight enemies in many different scenarios, scripted or not, pick them alone or in small groups and sometimes try to come up with a strategy to fight up to 50 enemies at once.
-
Command your fellow marines out of this hell. Your character’s rank as a Staff Sergeant isn’t only for show. Find any survivors of this disastrous operation and they will follow you. They have an acceptable AI that will actually follow your commands, won’t block your movement, and will kill enemies for you. Magnificent, isn’t it?
-
Mod it until it breaks. Running on the highly reliable GZDoom engine, this game is extremely easy to be modified. You can make mods, add custom weapons, enemies, levels, and entire new user-made campaigns.
Plot
In the end of the 21th century, after a catastrophic nuclear war followed by a famine that wiped out half of Earth, the remaining governments united their military under the same banner in a vow to prevent another disaster, and so the Global Order Alliance was born.
Later the G.O.A. united with corporations in an effort to terraform and colonize other planets in the solar system, by using a method that allowed artificial black holes to be created at the center of the planets to imitate Earth’s gravity. 60 years later when the terraforming of Mars and Jupiter’s moons were completed and mass migration started, the corporations betrayed the Terran governments and decided to declare independency and not use their newfound resources to help Earth get back on it’s feet. Their moto was “We terraformed these planets and now everything on them belongs to us. If you want these resources, come and take it."
Betrayed and left for dead, the peoples from all around the world vowed to invade the colonies and take back what belongs to Earth. The armies of the G.O.A. which were once considered heroes and peacekeepers of mankind, became a violent, fanatic, imperialistic military legion. They launched military campaigns against Mars and Io that lasted for decades. Now the year is 2297 and the people of Callisto started rebelling against the corporate rule due to recent strange phenomena caused by the planet’s artificial black hole, all the interplanetary communications are shut down by the regime, and the G.O.A. sees this as a perfect opportunity to invade the planet and “liberate” it with the local population’s support. The corporate conglomerates warns that the situation in Callisto is “complicated” and warns Earth to stay away from it.
You are part of a special international battalion of the Space Division of the G.O.A. Marine Corps sent to intermediate the situation. After a four month journey, you arrive at the planet with orders to destroy the corporate government forces and secure their industrial facilities. Drone scans shows literally hundreds of thousands of dead bodies littering the streets, apparently they genocided the local populace which saves you from the work of having to watch your targets… Your orders are clear: Descend into the planet with companies of battle-hardened Marines, combat androids, tanks, mechs, gunships and orbital artillery, and eliminate any colonial military forces you may find. They are considered dangerous irregular war criminals and you have no legal requirement to grant them any human rights, engage on contact. All weapons are clear… Exterminate with extreme prejudice, just the way the Marines likes to operate.
The Marines quickly find out that something is wrong. The planet is dead. Non-combatants and colonial guard alike were slaughtered, women and children included. No signs that a war happened here, some bodies defiled in unspeakable macabre religious rituals.
You realize that what killed these people weren’t humans, it weren’t using guns, and it’s still here. An unfathomable evil from beyond lurks these dead streets, its hungry eyes are gazing upon you. Do you have what it takes to survive?

Gunsmith Simulator
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1440340/Cannon_Foundry_Simulator/
There’s nothing like the smell of coffee blended with the metallic aroma of repaired guns in the morning… Become a virtual gunsmith, and it will become a part of your everyday reality.
You’ve already prepared your workshop and equipped it, and learning the profession just came naturally. Now you are left with finding your first customer. Fire up that computer, go to the “GunStock” website and browse through available auctions and ads. Who knows, maybe you will find someone who is in great need of your skills!
The first order is just in! Time to get to work. Order parts or craft them yourself using specialized tools such as a lathe or CNC machine tool. “Inspect” your patient and decide which elements need to be replaced and which you can repair yourself. Gain new skills, learn, and enhance your workshop!
Some say that looks don’t matter… it’s hard to blame them, they’ve probably never seen a perfectly preserved 7.92mm Gewehr assault rifle. Renovation of old shooters is also part of your duties. Get rid of rust from old elements by treating their surfaces by hand or use appropriate chemical treatments. Renew the protective layer of metal surfaces to keep them in good shape. And after a hard day’s work, it’s time for the most pleasant part – painting! Do you think the red accents will match?
Get creative! Upgrade equipment with modern accessories. Check optical sight, pistol grips, grenade launchers and lasers. Throw in a flashlight, rangefinder or collimators and create a unique weapon. The sky is the limit. After all, you are the gunsmith here. It’s up to you to decide on the design of weapons signed with your name.
After hours, it’s time to relax. What better rest is there for a gunsmith than a trip to your favorite shooting range? Put your pieces of art to a test by shooting at mannequins or go to the contaminated zone to shoot zombies!
All done? The further fate of your shooter is up to you. You can give it back to your client or buy it back and feature it in your collection. But hurry up, the next orders are waiting!

ICBM
ICBM is a great way to kill an hour, along with a few hundred million people. It’s got a bit of a learning curve to it but it’s simple enough that you can pick most of it up in 2 or 3 games.
What I find interesting (and a little terrifying) about ICBM is how nothing is permanent and how the game always keeps you at the edge of your seat, because much like a real nuclear war, you could find yourself and everything you’ve built being vaporized by thermonuclear weapons at a moment’s notice. If you build an airbase, the enemy can nuke that. If you build missile silos, the enemy can nuke that. If you build submarines, the enemy nuke that. The game effectively works out to be a scramble between you and your enemies as you try to keep tabs on where they’re keeping their city-melting goodies, as well as protecting your own, either by keeping them well-hidden, or building enough defences that the enemy can’t smash through them until you’ve already turned their continent into a giant radioactive parking lot. Then there’s also the question of “Should I attack first or is that going to end horribly for me and 85% of my country’s population”, which then promptly leads to the question of “But If I don’t do anything, are all my cities going to be on fire in 5 minutes” which means you’re always guessing, or always trying to find out.

I had to go back and change my original positive review to inform you not to buy this. Multiplayer community is dead and its been less than a month since the game lauched.
Game already has rampant hacking which ruins the game for everyone. Not to mention that the actual game itself is not really that fun after a few games.
Matches are 95% build up and 4% figuiring out who to attack and 1% fun combat. Most games you’ll build up for 35mins to literally not be able to use a single one of your nukes due to the game ending due to nuclear contamination via a massive barrage two guys release at once and even if you launched right then your nukes would not hit the ground before their nukes end the game.

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946
Written as of 25 August, 2016.
I grew up with this game, so I may be severely biased, just a warning. I remember getting the original IL-2 Sturmovik/Pacific Fighters pack way back in 2005 as a starry-eyed little kid. I was fascinated with aircraft from this era and it’s the main reason I know how much about them I do today. And then, suddenly, this new, vastly superior version appeared! I never begged my parents for something so badly in my life, but I NEEDED this as a child. And so I made the money to buy it. Best idea ever. It doesn’t show it, but the amount I have played this game in so many situations must easily be at least 4,000 hours before getting it on Steam alone. But enough of my life story, let’s get into the review of this.

IL-2 1946 Is a masterpiece in WW2 aircraft simulation and is a must have if you’re craving action in the pacific. To my knowledge, this is the only game that gets it right and makes you feel like you’re there fighting for small islands and atolls in the 1940’s. Whether you choose Japan or the United States, it does a great job at putting you in the pilot’s seat and give you the true feel of the war from the perspective of one squadron. If you choose the Japanese, you really feel the advantage of the Zero or the Val in the early war battles. The flight models of the aircraft in game make you work for it and learn how the real world planes fly, but once you put in the work you see the reward. But as the Japanese campaign goes on, everything gets harder. By the time you’re flying at Iwo Jima you’re in desperation to just survive you’re next mission. Alternatively, If you choose to fly for the US Navy, you start out from the battle of the Coral Sea and work your way to the mainland islands of Japan. For the US Navy you get to choose the Dauntless or the fighter campaign. The main fighters you get to fly as the war goes on are the Wildcat (and subsequent upgraded variants), Hellcat (f6f-3, f6f-5), and Corsair (with variants). In both campaigns you take off and land on WW2 carriers which by itself is boatloads of fun, but the missions are great as well.

So I’ve been eagerly awaiting this game for what feels like months here are my first impressions, my pros and cons and my lasting takaways. (This is kind of a review in progress due to alpha and that i’m not exactly “deep” - no pun intended- into the game (which i’ll get into.))
First Impressions
My first Impressions were, kind of a better version of Shelter, another game in the simulation/strategy genre, but instead of a fallout shelter and surviving a post apocalyptic wasteland i had the duty of helping a UBOAT full of eager (and not so eager) sailors ready for the trials and tribulations of war, i quickly did the tutorial and stumbled onto the sub. Overall aside from small UI opinions i liked it. Recruit some sailors, get a mission from HQ, and head out to sea. Easy enough right? I didn’t complete a single mission for my first… 10 or 15 was in the bag and i was either dead, dying, or wishing i was. The game has some bugs and some aspects that just weren’t so obvious. for example, trying to launch torpedoes at my first target and having them all explode on board (either it really happened or it was coincidence that i launched 4 torps and 4 explosions went off on board the sub) all the power on board went out after the first one so i couldn’t really tell. Another time i had to force a restart was just sheer incompetence, not knowing i’d lose my ships location if there was no navigator i thought i had entered a non playable zone and ended up in a UBOAT limbo. The game read “Full map not available” which i immediately thought was the game telling me i had ventured into part of the full game, not available in the alpha. Or when i scuttled a friendly sub due to the crew being killed and to not let it fall into enemy hands all via the mission menus, only to be made an enemy of my allies and engaged on sight as i returned to port. There were plenty of hiccups like these, either bugs or lack of understanding/explaining but i was determined to give the game a real shot.

Super Chopper
THIS GAME is more arcade like than simulator and is like Steel Talons rather than Gunship or Super Huey. Whats nice is there’s a mission editor. There’s more to be desired but its worth the price I suppose

I wouldn’t buy this game unless you have a good computer. I couldn’t run the game on the lowest settings. It seems fun but I just can’t play with like 10 frames.

Aggressors: Ancient Rome
This review is actually a Thank you letter to the developer for making this game.
For unbiased reviews skip this one.
I think it was 25 years ago that most of my school holiday time was used to do what I really like. Gaming. But I did not had my first PC yet, so gaming was spending one day in the city to collect all kind of painting materials and paperboards to create the ultimate game myself.
The Civilization boardgame, HeroQuest boardgame and some rare tabletop games I owned served as an example. But mine had a bigger boards, more options, more counters and features, more of everything actually.

Aggressors - Ancient Rome
This obscure historical game is turn based strategy / tactics to dominate the world starting in 280 BC by default, but adustable from 1000 BC to 500 AD. It is single player and is my personal choice for game of the year. I have played it for over 480 hours in the past 60 days. It is published by Slitherine and available through them, on Steam and GOG.
