Muzzleloaded

Ok, I just beat the game and want to share some of my thoughts.

This game is a short platformer with a huge influence from Metroidvanias. I wouldn’t call it a Metroidvania per se because even though we have an interconnected map and abilities that let you visit new areas, most of the new areas you can visit with abilities are optimal, offering stats rather new upgrades or bosses.

This is also the first game created by the dev and feels like one of these browser games that I used to play ten years ago. That’s not bad by any means, but you have to be aware of what you are getting. The three areas are distinct between them, but there is not much variety within themselves. In the same area, most of the scenarios will look the same, which can make it hard for you to recognize places you have been before. You have like like 5 different types of enemies, and in latter areas, they are just variations of previous ones.

Temper your expectations - this is a $2 game from a brand new developer and it plays like one. The enemy variety is awful, the majority of the game is spent trudging through too-long corridors, and you’re basically incapable of fighting without the first upgrade (which means the first 20 minutes are going to be miserable). That said, the bosses were enjoyable, the music was acceptable, and the game is not long enough to become agonizingly tedious. As long as you know what you’re getting into, this is a reasonably enjoyable game. You can do a whole lot worse for the price, especially when it’s on sale.

Slime’s Journey

Slime’s Journey

Slime’s Journey is a really fun side scrolling game reminiscent of old sega genesis and super nintendo games. You are a young slime orphaned by an evil shaman that has taken your parents and you are the only one able to save them! It’s the first of many slime games I’ve yet to play and it was simple and fun! You get to dress up your slime and find powerups. You have to keep a map in your mind of where you need to back track to once acquiring certain powerups, and it was a little difficult, but I managed it just fine.

Generally speaking this game is what I expected it to be. It is a cute side scrolling 2D adventure. It is fun, fast paced, and the animation style is really cute. my biggest issue is the first boss and the final map being confusing and hard to follow. The first boss is this giant tomato, you can see in the trailer. He is incredibly hard in comparison to the other bosses which all have a sort of method of defeating them. His method is present but it is incredibly hard in comparison to the others in the game. The final 15% of the game is also rather confusing. You basically have to open up 2 doorways to unlock the door to the final boss. The issue comes with the way you have to go about opening these 2 final doors. There is no pop up or scene to show you when you have successfully done it and I wound up circling around the level for around 30 minutes before I simply quit and decided not to finish the game. Maybe a better designed map or something to let the player know where to go within the level would help with this confusion. All in all the game is worth the $4.99 ($3.99 on sale currently) it just has a few things I would change to make the game more enjoyable.

THE FANGS HUNTRESS

THE FANGS HUNTRESS

I completed the game and it was fun. A pretty basic Wolfenstein 3D like shooter with some neat sprites and textures. The 6 weapons also feel quite good and there are several types of enemies and several bosses. It’s cheap, so I recommend it. Just know that it comes with a big caveat…

You can’t adjust the brightness of the game in any way. It’s simply way too murky to look at. Not just dark - but lacking in contrast. I’ve just beaten the final boss and my eyes fucking hurt! This game needs brightness and gamma sliders really bad.

The Fangs Huntress is not the perfect game. It is however very playable and fairly decent compared to a lot of stuff on Steam. From a Developer that makes nothing but crap smut games, this is a very much welcomed surprise. Thankfully this game was not made in the “Raycasting Game Maker” (which some devs have been using to dump many games on Steam with that god-awful engine.) It was created on the “Easy FPS Editor”. The Fangs Huntress is nice and short at 2 hours, it’s not too short and doesn’t overstay. I was able to finish the game and came out enjoying it!

Platform puzzleish with metroidvania progression and rpg grind. Content is solid, fun graphics, music, art and humor are charming, retro throwback. Controls are awkward and structure of the game is too grindy for me but it is amusing to do even simple things because of physics and overall craziness. it is also annoying to do simple things because of physics and craziness. This is that kind of game. It has too much going on; it’s sometimes hard to get to the part you like. Plenty of bugs which have been fixed quickly thus far. B-
