Absolutely not if you don’t speak the native language of the game developers which I believe is Chinese. You have to guess your way into making the game English then when you get in game there’s no controls explained at the start, if you majestically find your way out of the room (interact key is i) you can then talk to something which tells you the controls in Chinese even if you’re in the English version of the game. There’s nothing that tells you where to go the building you’re supposed to go into I’m assuming has a glass door that blends in pretty well with the other glass on the building. There’s so many vacant buildings on the way they’re it makes you assume that all the buildings are vacant to be honest with no dialogue or direction from the game. These shooting robots legit made me rage quit they legitimately have almost no spacing in between they’re shots you’re swing time causes you to get hit unless you have the timing of the gods. You can’t crouch swing you can’t interrupt her animation to crouch the bullets make her flinch you have NO I frames. The game tells me I have a shield generator to equip, but doesn’t tell me how to do it I went through every option tried every key I could think of and nothing let me put on or even see a shield generator. Honestly I could be missing an essential game mechanic, because the game isn’t translated well which is why I preface this towards people who don’t speak the native language, but this was absolutely rage inducing.

GoldFish Brain

GoldFish Brain

Goldfish Brain is a nice Metroidvania style game with a really nice aesthetic. The art direction is really nice and the game players well overall. It does have a few problems with an inconsistent difficulty, and the translations are a little rough, but overall it’s definitely worth playing.

Listen. This game has some serious fundamental flaws.

There’s a window where your attacks will just outright NOT come out if you press the attack button just after you stop moving forward. This happens a bunch as you use movement to position yourself (hopefully).

Jumping adjacent to walls will shorten your jump height. You always get the same height jump no matter whether you tap or hold the jump button. But if done next to a wall you’ll only go up halfway and if you’re holding into the wall you’ll remain hovering there and not come back down until moving away. This is a valid issue as there’s one tile wide vertical paths you need to jump through and spikes come out one side of the wall. But then your jump gets halved because you were too close to the wall and you’ve moved into spikes as a result.

The Serpent Rogue

The Serpent Rogue

The Serpent Rogue is an action-adventure game built around exploring a medieval fantasy world, mastering the art of alchemy, and taming wild creatures.

You play as the Warden, a mysterious alchemist, who needs to put their skills to protect this realm from the encroaching Corruption. Craft, brew, boil & concoct and protect the realm from The Serpent Rogue!

EXPEDITION THROUGH THE UNKNOWN

The Serpent Rogue has laid down roots on Mount Morbus, wherefrom its seething Corruption spreads and threatens to overwhelm the realm. It is your task as the Warden to confront it and restore balance to the natural order of things. Explore every corner of the map, unearth secret passages and gain knowledge to stand against the incoming disaster.

CRAFT POTIONS & EXPERIMENT

The game is heavily focused on crafting and experimenting with multiple types of potions and receipts. Use alchemy skills to transform or create situations to your own advantage.

Set up your mixing table and help the denizens of this cursed land; take their quests and earn resources to further your exploits.

CHOOSE YOUR ACTIONS

All your actions can create interesting sequences of cause and effect. Gather too many pets in one place and this will attract blood-thirsty Reapers that feed on alive. Forget to bury the perished ones and your location starts to attract corpse-eating ghouls, which attack everything on their way. Gather too many items in one location and be ready to deal with plague-spreading vermin.

EVOLVE

You can transform yourself or anyone else into… well, anyone! Brew potions that change certain aspects of creatures you meet on the way. Alter your body, so that poison will heal you, or use special abilities to other species.

Wreak havoc or create a flawless mechanism from a chicken farm that produces shovels…

It’s all up to you!

It kinda tries to be a metroidvania in the form of a top-view shmup. There’s only ever one path that leades to progress, though, whereas all the others lead to optional extra max HP, so it isn’t really. This is fine, though. The difficulty is distributed properly, the levels seem to have been made very thoughtfully, and while there are many redundant achievements, I think the most challenging ones are good for adding replayability, if the simple but fun bosses, speedrunable nature of the levels and a certain spazzy enemy type aren’t enough.

Gameplay, technical issues, controller support

Gameplay in itself is pretty decent, you start out with a tiny health bar, slow speed and no shield, and gain abilities as you progress and collect powerups. However, the movement of the avatar never feels ‘natural’ – it is like riding a tank where you can only turn by slowing down the left or right tracks. I consider this game unplayable using keyboards and mouse, you definitively need to use a controller.

ITALIANO
