Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition

The Short and Sweet

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a hybrid beat-em-up / Metroidvania game based on Mexican culture, with a large emphasis on combo-based combat, intelligent approach, and platforming. The story revolves around a farmer named Juan, who is killed by the main antagonist while attempting to save his friend, only to come back possessing the power of a magical mask, which turns him into a powerful Luchador intent on punching, suplexing and bodyslamming his way to victory.

A great mexican themed Metroidvania.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a revised version of the original Guacamelee Gold Edition, featuring new content. the game is a Metroidvania where the main focus is platforming with enemies to take out all set in a Mexican styled world. For my very first Metroidvania it was a wonderful experience with good gameplay and solid combat mechanics and plenty of extras.

Gameplay, Guacamelee’s gameplay is simple but solid featuring basic platforming with a extensive move set that you use both for platforming and combat. It is very easy to get used to Juan’s (Main Character) jump arc and be able to land jumps. Plus along the way you moves will increase so you can pull off some awesome combos. Speaking of combos, Guacamelee’s combat is also a major portion of the game, encouraging you to build large combos with a variety of moves. as such with extensive combat, there are enemies galore with many different ways of combat and different ways to deal with them. Dodging from attacks is very crucial to survive.

Draco Knight

Draco Knight

The Game

Draco Knight is a 2D action-platformer which uses twin stick controls to provide an easy to learn but hard to master gameplay. Combat is exciting, fast paced and impactful, requiring both finesse and quick decision making skills. The art and animation of Draco Knight is done in pixel art form, which is reminiscent of games from the 90s.

Story

The land of Draconia has been at peace for decades since the Great War was fought, and yet now the kingdom is under threat from monsters which has never been encountered before. Currently, the kingdom still holds mainly due to the might of the Draco Knights, great and noble warriors who turned the tides of the Great War. Experience the tale of a lone knight who fights to reclaim a fortress lost to evil forces within the realm. Beat back the threat and discover the mysterious nature of the enemies that now beset the land.

Exploration

Delve into the realm of Draconia and discover hidden secrets which will aid the knight in his quest, and more importantly identify the source of the monsters that is invading the realm of Draconia.

Engage oppressive and menacing foes

Bosses are designed to be brutal and challenging, but perhaps with some ingenuity and finesse even the greatest of foes can be defeated.

The game looks good, the music is great, but I would like more dynamics, the developers really tried over it. Early access due to the small amount of content, takes 2-4 hours. and tutorials would be great!

There is a lot of good stuff going on here.

-Hand drawn art is beautiful.

-Soundtrack is very relaxing and solid.

Unfortunately, the bad stuff needs a lot of work.

-Tutorial needs to include how/why to control 2 characters at once.

-The fighting feels sort of pointless.

-There are apparently upgrades and other attacks but I never got to do anything other than a simple punch.

Carestia

Carestia

It’s a really fun and beautiful game.

I’ve loved the experience so far.

There are challenging bosses and puzzles but not at the point of making to hard to be fun. Great abilities can be unlocked that will make you want to come back and explore the rest of the map.

100% recommended.

Pretty bizarre metroidvania.

At its best is a puzzle game aligning tool to transfer power/electricity across rooms to open up doors. Taking these tools between rooms, trying to circumvent forbidding gates that deny you entry if you’re carrying prior gear.

At its worst you just eternally march downwards underground, shooting scorpions blindly marching back and forth, clearing spike pits with your singular jump, falling stalactites that will never hit you if you don’t stop. This interminable opening section lasts about half of the game unfortunately before the game shifts focus onto it’s more unique aspect of building laser beam networks on the fly.

Before giving the demo a go, please read and consider the following:

This version is an alpha version and showcases the general feel of the game, not the final product.

Do note this alpha demo does not completely support resolution scaling and the recommended resolution for this alpha demo is 1920x1080. I plan on updating the demo eventually once I get around to implementing accurate game scaling options.

Wuppo: Definitive Edition

Wuppo: Definitive Edition

Wuppo is a hard game to pin down in a review, but I’ll try to be descriptive and add some practical details to help make up the minds of anyone that tries to decide if this game is right for them.

First off, what immediately will catch your eye, is that the game looks very “cute”. This cuteness is not is not just added for its own sake, but its aesthetic and style really serves the purpose to complement and add to the feel of the world. What I mean by this, is that the world is very friendly and open to exploration and has generally a very laid back atmosphere. Most of the world’s inhabitants that you encounter are friendly and can be interacted with for some possible rewards or information. Some can be triggered into attacking you, but if this happens when you have the bird equipped for example, I can’t really blame them.

Heartwarming, unique adventure hidden behind silly presentation and relative lack of popularity - Wuppo delivers an amazing world, interactivity and genre mashup that screams GIVE THIS DEV MORE MONEY!

You are a wum. The wuzziest, roundest and possibly laziest wum in the entire Wumhouse. So lazy, that you are a constant nuisance to the Wumhouse’s main manager. When you spill your daily dose of ice cream all over the corridor, manager loses it and orders security to throw you over your room’s balcony into the garden. After you lose few pounds when somebody steals the TV out of you (which you apparently ate previously) the new quest awaits for you - the search for a new home, happiness and your own little place in the world.
