Middle Age Conquest

Game is very fun, just a little too fast and easy. Wish it were longer and you actually got better rewards for conquering other fields.

It is a great game to spend time, it is easy to learn and hard to master. It really worth the price.

The Rebellion

If you are here reading this and the game is on sale for under $5.00, just buy it. EZPZ! I just saved you a bunch of time reading other reviews!

I love the potential TR has. It has a long way to go but the devs are showing me they are serious about their creation and I love it. The game is not there yet on a number of things, like 3rd person combat and adding a tutorial, but I’m seeing improvements every patch! I still have a lot to learn about the game but even in this early state I will recommend TR, but at the moment, only when its on a Steam sale.

While I did receive this for free and have been helping them test, I have found myself booting it up to play the survival mode without being prompted and doing it for fun. (TL;DR at bottom for lazy)

I have to say, the survival mode is quite fun. Difficult, but the challenge is what makes it fun. Furthest I’ve gotten is Battalion 5 on survival mode, which took over 2 hours to get to and I had a blast the entire time because my hero got OP halfway through. It scales with the population cap you set, the players in the game, and the difficulty you select. Normal is a decent challenge, Hard is, predictably hard, and nightmare difficulty is near impossible.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Before you all read my review I want you to know I’m basing this review purely on the multiplayer aspect of this game as that has been my main way of having fun on the amazing Mount&Blade franchise over the last 10 years.

Be it on Warband, With Fire and Sword, Napoleonic Wars dlc, or many of the mods we saw over the years, it’s always been the multiplayer that kept me interested and gave me so many great moments.

Look I know what most people are thinking…

“But Walja, you have over 1.000 hours played on Mount&Blade 2: Bannerlord and still you don’t recommend it !?”

Most of the negative reviews for this game are people who bought it early on and saw how little this game progressed through the passing of months, positive ones are the ones with few hours, because I indeed agree, it feels like a new game completely, which is good (as there was already plenty of content for Warband through great mods).

However, what surprises me the most is that they say this game will be released June next year? (sourcing themselves: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/261550/view/4509778749610642532) . How come? Game is far from finished and absolute snail’s pace of development will for granted not finish it in a few months, when this game has been going on for years and since they launched it on steam on early access prepurchase, they have mostly been doing minor fixes and balancing. No new features, quests or dialogues since I last played to this day

Knights of Honor

Knights of Honor

Knights of Honor is a classic grand strategy game, quite different from any other in the genre. Everything happens in real time, including the battles that can be fought manually and the campaign map really feels alive as a lot of things are happening at the same time.

There are a few things to manage, like your town construction, your royal court, armies and diplomacy. These things are fairly simplistic (compared to the modern games) and are easy to learn, but very fun to play with once you understand them. While the manual battles can be fun and dynamic, they aren’t the strong part of Knights of Honor. The actions on the campaign map are definitely where the main entertainment comes from.

Real player with 124.6 hrs in game

Before I start, I want to mention one thing: this negative review is not about the game itself. Knights of Honor is a great RTS game, and you should definetly play it. My problem stems from the fact that this game is a prime example of a developer being lazy and just dumping the original game, unpatched and unoptimized to Steam for a price that seems very steep, considering the performance quality of this game. To first start off, this game’s major fault is the fact that it cannot boot into its default resolution properly. No matter what you do, it will only show 3/4s of the image (in some cases, the game will also force your monitor resolution to 640x480) that can only be fixed via the HD patch. The main issue with the HD patch is that for some people, it will not work. I have had friends who purchased this game and were unable to get the patch running, leaving them with a game that was a waste of money and time. The game also still has a major issue that I’ve experienced even on an old XP machine as a kid with an original (now lost) disc copy; Random crashes. These seemingly have no real trigger, they will happen often after 1-2 hours of play, and while not annoying due to the ability to set frequent autosaving, preventing loss of progress, its insulting that this issue still persists years later, with the developers never addressing it or releasing a patch. Overall, I don’t recommend the game due to the aforementioned HD patch issue some people I know have had, otherwise if you’re lucky enough to get it working, it is possibly one of the most addicting strategies out there.

Ruin or Victory

Ruin or Victory

Ruin or Victory is a modern take on the classic RTS genre with added detail, continuity, and strategic depth while remaining accessible and well-paced.

Game modes at release

  • A free-build mode with no opponent and optional tutorial hints. A complete user manual will be accessible in game while paused.

  • A scenario mode against an AI opponent that starts with a base and launches increasingly challenging attacks against the player. Both the map and AI preset will be randomized each game, and difficulty, game length, and other settings will be available.

Features at release

  • Random map generation with different terrain, resources, and starting positions each game. Create your own custom map configuration files to control most parameters of map generation.

  • An AI that does not cheat, but uses all the same mechanics that the player does. The AI will make decisions based only on what it has spotted.

  • An extensive, branching technology tree with new items, buildings, and abstract benefits. Some paths are exclusive to others and offer both advantages and disadvantages that define your strategy and playstyle. The tree starts in the stone age and ends at the early medieval age.

  • An organic population growth system that uses real-time food consumption, death due to starvation, and overcrowding factors. You will have to balance your population’s growth, food production, and military size.

  • Skills for your peasants that are gained from their actions and significantly improve their efficiency. Various crafters make high quality items and are a strategic target, while skilled warriors take time to train but are dangerous in battle.

  • Rally system that allows you to set gather points for peasants and warriors separately and summon them as needed. Collect your idle peasants or rally your troops to their posts with any number of points that you place.

  • Domesticated animals that serve as more efficient farm and transport workers and enable the use of cavalry, but require food and training. Animals can be captured when their previous owners abandon them.

  • Continuity of resources and items presents a new strategy of logistics. All resources gathered and items made are physically present in the game world.

  • Resources must be moved to buildings for construction, can be taken out of the building by disassembling, and are lost when the building burns. Workshops that make items must have resources delivered, and the items must be moved and stored in armories.

  • Buildings and other constructs, such as siege equipment, require humans to operate, and can be captured if abandoned. Buildings captured from the enemy can be looted, burned, or used like your own buildings.

  • Warriors are equipped with custom sets of equipment that you design. Create armored archers or light spearmen to fend of cavalry. Every piece of a warrior’s equipment will impact their speed and combat abilities. Carried items and resources are dropped on death, allowing the victor to loot the battlefield.

All of this detail is scaled to the strategic level. There are no inventory screens or per item management. Stored items and resources, warrior equipment, and item upgrades are managed in any quantity with a few button clicks. Peasants automatically find necessary items and buildings for pickup and drop-off, carrying out their tasks with an individual AI.

Selected humans, animals, and constructs are automatically categorized and sorted, allowing you to select by type, skill, or equipment quickly. An order queuing system allows you to chain orders and display them in the game world.

A clear user interface with customization options, intuitive hotkey navigation, and unlimited map zoom with scalable icons, is presented with original, stylized artwork and font.

Features that will be added after release

  • Multiplayer, including cooperative play in all singleplayer modes, as well as PvP on any random map.

  • A skirmish gamemode in which the AI starts and builds up like the player.

  • Rivers and lakes that divide the map as well as island maps on the open ocean. Gather fish and fight the enemy with warships crewed by your warriors in ranged and boarding engagements.

This list is not exhaustive; support and additional features will continue after release.

Total War: MEDIEVAL II – Definitive Edition

Total War: MEDIEVAL II – Definitive Edition

This game is the best Total War game in existence. This is by far my favourite. Not only are the vanilla and expansion campaigns a lot of fun, but the almost infinite fantastic mods adds the replayability of this game a thousand fold.

Pros

  • Campaign experience is awesome. Lots of depth. Plenty to do. Complex enough that its not difficult to learn, but not easy to master either. It’s so easy to get immersed into your kingdom and care about your subjucts. History is your oyster. You become what you want. You can be a benevolent king who’s people adore, or a bloodthirsty tyrant that rules with an iron fist, a bumbling general that doesn’t inspire his men at all, or the greatest commander alive who even peasants will fight to their death on his command.

Despite it’s old age, it’s a masterpiece.

Medieval II: Total War is one of the best strategy games I’ve played. It’s both enjoyable in a strategical and personal sense.

Lets just straight get into why.

Gameplay

  • The game manages to be detailed with their strategy, forcing you to actually flank and position your troops. It doesn’t just account to how large your force is or whose troops are more disciplined, though, those two are factors to consider as well. In multiplayer, you might even be able to factor in Psychological Warfare! It gets pretty in-depth. And I love that.

Total War Battles: KINGDOM

Total War Battles: KINGDOM

Disadvantages:

1. The game seems to be purposely slow paced (especially when it comes to equiping troops and leveling to 2nd rank), it’s very likely for most to lose their patience and either buy gold or quit the game.

2. Nonsense restrictions, such as on crafting, which can be carried out only by one blacksmith at a time.

3. Gold buttons are everywhere, thus making it very likely to ‘accidentally’ spend even that little gold bars you got available from in-game leveling and battle quests.

4. Enemy AI on challenging and ‘brutal’ difficulty, has often additional soldiers which do not appear on pre-battle info. In general it feels the AI is ‘cheating’ on certain battles.

–—

THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL TOTAL WAR GAME. There. You’re warned.

Of the handful of free-to-play, castle-style games I’ve tried, they have been a handful too many. Stronghold Kingdoms was either too lonely or filled with inter-House drama. Sparta: War of Empires was too deceptive with its trailers and required zero micro. Kingdom Wars had too many bugs and performed too poorly. Upon reading several negative reviews, I convinced myself internally that this game would prove no better.

FOR HONOR™

The community is all over the place but quick summerise Vikings and Samurais are both tryhard teams while knights are trying but they are also just having actual fun so imma switch to them when I feel like it.

All the characters are fun and look good but it’s up to perspective i can’t play Nobushi for the life of me but Kyoshin i can kick ass on, try a few and decide yourself, i would wish for rep 5 and under people would be allowed to just try any character because of how many characters there are now but doesn’t really matter.

Real player with 627.8 hrs in game

Even though I have a lot of time in this game its only because it is the only one of its kind. The community is so toxic and horrible (but that goes with most games especially ubisoft ones) but that is only part of the problem. People join games with high pings and dominate because for some reason a guy sitting at 300 ping is still good to play? They recently changed the game from a reaction based game to a reading based (meaning instead of reacting to what your opponent does you have to predict and punish what you think they will do since most of the attacks are unreactable). Queue times are around 3-4 minutes for the most popular playlist (dominion) and even though you get in, your team is filled with people who don’t care to play the obj but just go for kills despite game modes (1v1, 2v2, deathmatch, etc) being designed specifically for that but people don’t platy those modes. Often times you will get teams full of the meta character or some 4man stack teams who no life the game to the point that they can take you 100-0 in a matter of seconds without giving you a chance to fight back or get revenge (which doesn’t work half the time) with the help of heavy stagger and pinning attacks. You get almost no reward for playtime (the in game currency ranges from 20-50 a game with the challenges offering 250 max per although most often they are 150 for things like “playing 12 games as a vanguard character”) with items costeing 7k for a finisher or emote and upt to 10k for other cosmetic items. It is a fun game sometimes but most of the times it is a sweat fest where you cannot chill on.

Real player with 17.9 hrs in game

Sorry for the brief description of my review but as for what i mean one thing that i find that i wish was in hyper knight battle is the various unit levels like the different minions/sheilders etc. like the elite ones or mid level ones. I also think that you should have a knight characters to hyper knights battles the mini bosses in hyper knights basically. i think it’s cool how they have there different abilities like heal motors inspire etc. which i think would be a great addition to hyper knights battles. One thing that i’m typically drawn into by battle simulators are the facts that usually the environment is intractable meaning things can block units way like rocks or trees or even better destructible surroundings a good example is men of war assault squad which in game the units can destroy walls rocks towers etc. that would heavily improve my liking another thing i would like to see is unit bodies for some odd reason i get a feeling of unjust when the unit simply vanishes after being defeated. Another recommendation add a little randomization among units combat like missing or blocking like in the upcoming game totally accurate battle simulator the units actions are very random meaning even some of the weakest units can possibly win a fight against a slightly better opponent i would like to have a feeling of random ability meaning if i put shielders against minions i don’t want the minions always to win a way to do this is to incorporate the minions shielders and archers special abilities as seen in hyper knights. last but not least continue to add more units no just infantry but vehicles if possible and other things building like walls or tents or even towers that can be added to help change the tide of battle.
