Reigns
I didn’t really know what to expect from Reigns… at first glance during the summer sale (but ended up paying full price) it looked like a novel game mechanic, with just enough silliness to be worth the miniscule asking price of £1.99.
It looked like something I would:
Be able to dip into occasionally for giggles
Be able to walk away from without feeling cheated on a run session
Feel I got reasonable value for my purchase without a huge commitment
But I really didn’t expect it would deliver that much.

Your choices matter in this game. Results may be unpredictable and there is no guarantee of satisfaction or success but the game itself entices you to keep coming back for more in hopes of finding all characters/deaths/endings/secrets/cards as each playthrough is unique with thousands of cards available to be shown.
Actual gameplay is very simple and intuitive: swipe either left or right to make choices that impact your reign which is represented through four distinct meters at top of the screen (church, citizens, army, and wealth). Every decision that you make influences one or more meters in one way or another and it is imperative that you keep all four meters balanced so that none becomes either completely filled or empty–doing so would unquestionably bring your reign to an end. Though sometimes the results of each decision may be completely arbitrary or nonsensical such that the effect on your four meters will often leave you scratching your head and wondering what had just happened. Most of the time, you will also likely wonder what would have happened had you made a different decision.

100% Game Achievements in 2 1/2 hours.
Pros - Comedic Dialogue and Art
Cons - Very repetitive, Illusion of Choice
There seems to be an Illusion of Choice. Even when faced in situations where it is possible to 'die'. I never found a situation that forced player death on me. No game over, no restart from level 1\. There also were many times where the game allowed me to make purchases I didn't have gold for, and instead left me with a negative gold value.
Another lack luster portion of the game is the risk and reward card game, may have just been my RNG but in the full time I spent playing I never had any 'Huge Success' outcomes and had several 'Huge Failure' outcomes. Personally, it might be nice to see the hero with two stats which could develop over the course of the adventure. One for combat, one for non-combat instead of using a card based minigame.

## Be the Ruler: Britannia
![](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/990970/extras/steam_cover.png?t=1639065076)
#### Gameplay
In this game, it's up to you to create your own story. Be the Ruler is an RPG in which the player takes on the role of a king and leads his dynasty through the ages. Every decision has its implications in the living world. Similar events can have dramatically different consequences. What kind of king you are determines what you can do in the world. Whether you prefer diplomacy, intrigue, conquest - it's up to you.
#### Living World
To make Be the Ruler a true Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game, we built a living world where events happen regardless of your decisions. Your actions can influence them - often in unexpected ways. The elements of a living world consist of:
- Randomly created nobles and other NPCs before the start of each game, with different attributes affecting their actions. Noblemen will marry, build their dynasties, and have their own goals. How you respond to them (or not) will determine the consequences of your actions.
- Other kings have their own policies - conquests, alliances, state expansion.
- You have unique relationships with each character in the game. These relationships are affected by your history, as well as how you relate to a particular group (i.e. nobility, priesthood, family).
- If you choose to take action, the consequences will be felt in every aspect of the game - your resources, your relationships, the consequences of your decisions, the options available to you.
You, as king and as dynasty - create your own history in the medieval era.
#### Features
- Start a family and create a dynasty - raise your descendants. Beware of your siblings, who are waiting to trip you up. Beware of romance.
- Manage an early medieval kingdom based on personal relationships with your vassals. Solve their problems, judge them, punish them. Build relationships based on trust or power.
- Create alliances, conquer provinces.
#### World
Welcome to the world of early medieval England. Many small kingdoms, which were formed on the ruins of the Roman Empire and the migration of the Saxons to Britain. You will be the king of one of them - Wessex. There are many castles to visit and conquer, towns which will pay you tributes. Mines that give you currency and farms that supply you with grain.

## Don't Kill the King!
**_Someone tried to kill the king, but fortunately they failed! However, the would-be assassin will return to try again, and it's your job to catch them._**
#### As a medieval gate guard:
* Interrogate visitors and try to uncover any lies or inconsistencies in their stories.
![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1774940/extras/ezgif.com-gif-maker__13_.gif?t=1633199769)
* Search any visitors that seem suspicious. After all, they could be smuggling contraband or worse…
* If any hidden item is found, choose to confiscate it as illegal contraband, or discreetly take it for yourself.
![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1774940/extras/ezgif.com-gif-maker__16_.gif?t=1633199769)
* After deeming visitors as innocent or guilty, choose to allow them into the city, deny them entry, or even throw them in the dungeon.
#### Do all the above while:
* Trying to maintain the **_happiness_** of the visitors.
* Earning **_gold_** to pay your bills.
* Gaining **_reputation_** amongst the city guards in order to climb your way up to top.
![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1774940/extras/ezgif.com-gif-maker__11_.gif?t=1633199769)
**Sometimes being a gate guard can be exhausting work, and quite frankly low-paying work at that. So a little bit of dishonest work to make some quick coin here and there wouldn't hurt, right?**
* Gamble and play some relaxing Contraband Bingo with the contraband you confiscated from the visitors (or bought from the black market).
![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1774940/extras/ezgif.com-gif-maker__14_.gif?t=1633199769)
* Invest in contraband stocks at the black market and check everyday to see if your stocks are climbing or dipping.
![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1774940/extras/ezgif.com-gif-maker__15_.gif?t=1633199769)
#### Features:
* Each visitor will have their own set of occupations and personality types that will be randomly chosen each day which will affect their dialogue and how they interact with you. For example, one visitor may be an honest blacksmith one day and the next day you see them they might be a lying carpenter.
* Special items can be bought at the black market which affect the number of visitors who are carrying items, decrease the likelihood of guilty visitors appearing, double the amount of **_reputation_** earned from your work, and more!
* Achievements to be unlocked through special interactions and your hard work!

Half a century has passed since the Kingdom of Tyrnia repelled the Imperial Invasion, but now the once victorious kingdom finds itself on the brink of a civil war.
The Queen rests with the Four now and the young King's ascension to power is overshadowed by his suspicions towards his younger brother, Prince Bryden, who, as many think, could become a better king.
It is rumoured to be the sole reason for His Highness Prince Bryden to be entrusted with the administration of the most remote and decadent city in the kingdom.
The city of Kastra, or the Widow, was once the capital of Tyrnia. Now she is a pale shadow of her former self. Abandoned and almost of no interest to the Crown, she has fallen into the hands of local criminals who call themselves the Thieves Underground. Under their leadership, the corrupt city guards and the mysterious Church of Anar-Nehit, pilgrims from the far-southern deserts, control nearly every aspect of the city life.
Yet, even if the war has been over for half a century now, the patient and vile Ontorian Empire, just like a serpent that it bears on its banners, has prepared an even more cunning plan to seize neighbouring lands.
Under the guise of a relative of a local impoverished nobleman, Eiren, one of the Imperial spies sent to Tyrnia, will become part of a dastardly conspiracy to take over the unaware kingdom.
In order to successfully execute her orders, Agent Eiren joins the Prince’s people and will have to play her part in the liberation of the city. Together with Gieden, a crafty captain of Bryden’s forces, she begins the investigation of a daring crime that has shaken an already fragile balance in Kastra.
Eiren must act behind the backs of her unlikely allies, maintain their trust, and protect her true identity and motives at all costs.
But, perhaps, the hardest challenge for her to face will lie in the battle with her conscience and in the necessity for coming to terms with her own tragic past.

![Yes, Your Grace](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1115690/header.jpg "")
## Yes, Your Grace
Yes, Your Grace! is a (Decision Making Simulator) which fallows a Polish Game of Thrones themed plot. The game is set in Medieval time period, sprinkled with sorcery and magical tales. It’s quite clear that the developer has taken inspiration from the Witcher & GoT, instead of creating an original story.
Yes, Your Grace. Is portraying itself to have this overarching storyline with different branching plots, that somehow are woven together to form these consequential decision-making moments by the player.

There is an argument going on among YYG players, as to whether or not your choices in this game actually _matter_ or not. One side says, "Your choices do not matter, it's the same game no matter what you do", while the other side says, "Of course your choices matter, they will determine the life and death fate of nearly every character in the game".
Here's the thing: they're both right… but explaining how that is, without relying on spoilers, is kinda hard. If you are asked to make a decision, and you get a different dialogue response depending on which choice you make, but then all of the gameplay from that point forward is the same... does that count? If you say "no", then you are going to hate this game.

## Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth
This game is exactly what a video game should be. The art of wrapping up a brilliant story in the right way. Far from stressful and repetitive games, this work is unique and often made me feel very different from other games. There is not a lot of interaction and is mostly limited to conversations, looking at objects, and the character's thoughts on a particular object or person. But that's what made me feel so immersed in the game and this world. I haven't read the books, but I'm glad I had this experience without knowing the original. Thank you Daedalic !

Hurts having to give a thumbs down to a game with such a well constructed narrative, but…
For a story game, the story is unsatisfying and the "best bits" feel incredibly rushed. And for a point 'n click game that is similar to a Visual Novel in many senses, it has a weird pacing whilst 75% of the game consists of slice-of-lifeish moments.
Think of it like this. The game starts incredibly slow. And then, BOOM, there is a big moment and it looks like the story is REALLY going places... But then no, there's more build-up. And after that, even more build-up. And then even moreso. You'd imagine the story is building up to something grand, right? And that is true!

![Silmaris: Dice Kingdom](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1293120/header.jpg "")
## Silmaris: Dice Kingdom
Silmaris meets the bare minimum for me to recommend it; it took me about 12 hours to beat the game, then another 5 hours to exhaust all the various outcomes, or at least as many as I cared to see. After that, in my opinion, there is little to no replayability.
It was fun and an interesting story, with plenty of choice. I love the idea of dice rolls; its a good strategy and resource management game with (lite) elements of city/kingdom-building as well as the thrill of RNG. And yes, you will die plenty of times before figuring out how to best navigate the decision-making. For me, that adds to the joy of the eventual triumph. However, once you beat the game, you've probably seen all the events, and for me, the game is not enjoyable enough to replay after there's no new surprises.

I played this game for a time and for me it was enjoyable. You play a ruler in a city surrounded by five other cities. Two of them are hostile towards you at the beginning. The rest is neutral. Trying to either subjugate or befriend them is your main goal then. For this goal you have a pick out of a varity of advisors at your disposal. Additional to this politic part you can solve missions on the map, which can provide you with artifacts making your advisors stronger.
Everything works via dices you use in the game. You gain them by either letting your advisors collect more or earn them in missions.
