BATTLETECH

BATTLETECH

Comined with the Roguetech mod its Battletech Tabletop at its best.

Vehicles, LAM Mechs, all (?) equipment thinkable.

The Vanilla Game is nothing compared to this mod.

Great game. The vanilla game is too easy for multiple playthroughs but there are several great mods to expand and better balance the game.

I prefer Battletech Advanced 3062 but there is also Roguetech (which is a bit too complicated for my tastes).

Vibur: DISINTEGRATION (Episode 1)

Vibur: DISINTEGRATION (Episode 1)

“If you could start over, what would you change?"

Context of the world

For more than a hundred years, the planet faced a succession of conflicts each even more devastating than the previous one. Mankind was one step away from its extinction and the planet was left with severe marks of radioactivity.

Over time, the planet began to show some signs of regeneration and radioactivity became less and less a problem, however, in still active areas, a mysterious phenomenon began to emerge.

Over the last twenty years, strange creatures similar to dragons have been seen with increasing frequency. These creatures have been given the name of Viburs.

Conflict

Now in the year 2091, the world has not been pacified, instead, it moves to its darkest point. It is at its height of social, economic and political unrest, where different ideals have been brought to their logical conclusion, giving rise to three divergent factions.

Tensions intensify and everything becomes a pretext for a war in which the concept of morality begins to be challenged.

The ideological divergence of each side, will only find rest when it completely suppresses others and establish itself as the true and definitive world order.

Protagonist

Psychologically scarred and haunted by a past he can never forget, with no other alternative he joins a military training academy for Abidis pilots. Here is where his journey begins, as he starts to be surrounded by a web of internal and external conflicts. Multiple factions and secret interests exert their influence in this war, where not everything is what it seems.

However, this is his opportunity to rewrite his own story, and possibly the world’s. Thus begins a long journey, where it was all triggered by the strange and mysterious request of an enigmatic girl.

Key Features:

  • Experience the first episode of a dense saga, following the hero as he lives the day-to-day of an intense year in which some of his choices will inevitably affect his future and his team.

  • Interact and get closer to team members. They are the key to getting a clearer picture of the world through their distinct perspectives. This proximity will also be useful in combat.

  • Build a romantic connection with some of the girls. Despite the internal shadows that haunt the protagonist, it is possible to create the necessary change for him to able to consider someone in that perspective.

  • Evolve and fight with a diverse selection of weapons of war. Each faction and certain countries have developed powerful new war instruments that are divided essentially into two large groups of humanoid robots, the Tragos and Abidis. These latter are the best tool that mankind has against the Viburs.

  • Beat the enemies using a variety of strategies, exploring both terrain and character characteristics. All Abidis pilots have a combat style associated with a specific class, each with their strengths and weaknesses.

  • Help managing the team. All fights matter. All the status and condition of the pilots and their units are persistent between missions. Repair, maintenance or upgrading are always difficult choices when human and material resources are limited.

  • Explore this world dominated by the three great factions. Strife and conflict seem unavoidable in a reality where irreconcilable ideologies struggle to attain global hegemony. How will it be, to know different perspectives on the same reality?

Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri

Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri

Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri was an immeasurably revolutionary computer game released in 1996.

Terra Nova established the outdoor first person shooter genre with extreme render distances and advanced physics modelling including gravity simulation, water reflections, player movement systems, and weather conditions. Terra Nova also pioneered and perfected squad commanding in an fps environment, with competent, realistic bots. The squad members performed the player’s exact commands, ranging from movement options, tactics, engagement techniques, and special abilities. Terra Nova even pioneered exosuit simulators, inspiring the Tribe series of fps’s. It is a very technical simulation, with the missions requiring strategic planning, in outfitting the squad with weapons, suits, pilots, and, “alternative suit functions.” Alternate Suit Functions, or A.S.F.’s, permitted an operator to perform an ability, including deploying sentry turrets, additional suit shields, demolition explosives, power plants, repair modules, cloaking, and other abilities. On most missions, the player had to rely on the bots to perform tasks for the player, either defending a structure, destroying enemy fortifications, and scouting. The player managed all of these tasks via three multi-function displays, similarly to an aerospace fighter jet. The player had access to a powerful and immersive mapping program, drones, damage outputs, and A.S.F. controls. The player also had access to jump jets. Jump jets were integral to gameplay, allowing for mountains to be scaled with ease and impossible maneuvers to be performed.

18-09-2016: Updated review after second playthrough: added some lines, fixed a few errors.

This review does not go into details of how the game works, nor does it mention everything. It only broadly explains what you can expect when playing it.

So, one would hear about this game, and would at first glance think: Well, this game looks interesting, let’s give it a try, right? It’s made by Looking Glass after all! (sounds a whole lot like me ;)

And then you play it. Holy crap, this game is amazing. Complexity unlike i’ve ever seen before, to the point that I have learned so much to fill a whole game at my second playthrough alone. one of the best soundtracks i’ve ever heard (albeit pretty biased), a story that starts very cheesy but then keeps punching you in the face with plot-twists and the gameplay is nothing short of excellent either.

Drone: Remote Tactical Warfare

Drone: Remote Tactical Warfare

https://youtu.be/5KIiIFqSsok

It is a great pure strategy game, where you have to manage a dron, and infiltrate on enemy bases, perform repair operations, hacking, use of mines, … Obtaining thus, the objectives proposed, avoiding being fried by the bullets. It has variety of missions, the first missions are important, because they are designed to familiarize you with the controls, and thus to use in more advanced missions all the available resources, that will make the enemy soldiers finish dead or retire dead of fear.

DUAL GEAR

DUAL GEAR

Well, “DUAL GEAR” been in development for 4+ years and considering it’s a project from a small indie studio with VERY LIMITED budget - i’d say it’s a success.

If you’re interested in a bit of history, the original Indiegogo campaign for Dual Gear launched back in 2016, but failed to meet the goal, however, the devs launched a 2nd (better organized) campaign and it was a success. (not the big one, but still enough to continue development)

And now we are finally got the Early Access version, so, let’s check it out.

In 2011, Front Mission Evolved was released. It was the last time I’ve played a Front Mission game. Why mention Front Mission? Because this is a spritual successor to PS1/PS2 Front Mission games.

If you’ve never played Front Mission, I’m not completely surprised: I’m a goddamn boomer, and I remember it fondly. Front MIssion was a Tactical RPG with Mecha; think Final Fantasy Tactics, but Mecha. The draw of it wasn’t so much the Tactical RPG portion – though that was pretty great. For me, the draw was the numbers. Lots of numbers. Between leveling up pilots, replacing parts to give varying bonuses, balancing statistics, specializing units based upon weapon loadouts and experience with specific weapons. And the lore… good god the lore was amazing; somewhere between modern day dystopia and cyberpunk.

Techwars Online

Techwars Online

Neither Battletech nor good.

Hi there. I really like mechgames – be it as a simulation on my PC or as a tabletop-game with miniatures. But in its actuall state the game Techwars Online seems to come straight out of hell. It looks unready – but it is not an early-acces-title. The gamemechanics are unsatisfiing, the tournamentmode is a joke, the controlls are whacky – but they have no mercy for mistakes. And – just in case you didn’t guess it yourselves – there are bugs crawling through the code. I know: somwhere in Russia a bunch of guys have put a lot of effort in that project – I appreciate that. There are to few mechgames in the world. But for example: Why takes the AI the control of my mechs, leves me as a mere wondering spectator and beats the crap out of itself? I wanted to do that! Well, it’s not that bad, because after two rounds or so the whole match crashes.

Real player with 6.1 hrs in game

Besides not knowing what Battletech is or Front-Mission, i find this game fascinating.

The game itself is on early development, not early access, I hope thye add new features and items for further startegies, because this game is nothing else than Chess with giant robots and hexagonal space instead of square.

Now the pros and cons:

PROS:

Very strategic gameplay: If you don’t think twice when you play this game, it’ll be difficult to win, as every action you do will actually be decisive for your win or loose.
