Strania - The Stella Machina -

From modern STG pioneers G.rev, Strania takes its root deep into games such as Cybattler, MUSHA Aleste, Spriggan Mk II and other 90’s mech shooters, while adding the mesmerizing and cinematic experience typical to G.rev that can be seen in some of their other titles such as Border Down or Under Defeat.

With collaboration from Treasure’s former employee Hiroshi Iuchi as graphic designer, famous for directing games such as Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga, and an exhilarating soundtrack with sharp sound effects produced by Keishi Yonao (Asuka 120%, Mad Stalker, Neural Gear), Strania is an accessible shooter that focuses more on environmental aspects rather than just throwing a million bullets at you on a lifeless terrain.

Well, here’s my 2 cents on it, lol! X3

From the makers of Border Down, Under Defeat, both Senko no Ronde’s, Mamoru-Kun Curse, and their latest title Kokuga. Comes G.Rev’s Strania - The Stella Machina - (Seisou Kouki Strania/星霜鋼機ストラニア), their first title on Steam.

Previously developed for XBLA and the Nesica-(X)-Live Arcade, Strania is a shoot-em-up/shmup/STG, in which you’re fighting a war against both the Stranian and the Vower armies vaying conquest. Yes, there is a story on both sides if you check the “How-To-Play” section after you see the mechanics of the game.

Metal Gear Solid 2’s Cool Younger Brother

You like Vanquish?

This game’s made in 2003, and I think this is the best omni-direction mecha combat action game the market has to offer. The only thing that does outer space high speed mecha combat better than this game is probably Warframe’s Archwing mode.

The game is fun, not many of its kind out there. The controls is fairly responsive, the combat mechanic is deep enough for players to be experimental but not to the point that it is impenetrable. Scenario design is great, variety of situations that keep the player’s engagement fresh (a la Platinum Games). The momentum of the story’s pacing fits the speedy combat gameplay. Progression feels great with the additional tools gradually given in the game to change things up on how you approach combat. It’s a skill based game, so you kinda leveled up yourself to proceed through. The game is challenging even on normal, there’s a side challenge that’s pretty hard even on the easiest difficulty. You have been warned.

ZONE OF THE ENDERS THE 2nd RUNNER is a fast third-person mecha action game produced by Hideo Kojima. This is a cult title that I have only recently been able to check out. Although a brief game, ZOE2 provides frantic and challenging gameplay despite having a few issues.

STORY

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2351078675

You are Dingo Egret. On Callisto, the Martian moon, he finds a mysterious signal and investigates. It turns out to be an Orbital Frame- a mecha that uses the power of Metatron (the series’ substance of power). AHRAM, a military power, begins attacking and Dingo has to pilot the mech. The mecha’s AI, ADA, gives you a brief introduction to Jehuty, your mech, and you fend off AHRAM. Eventually you come face-to-face with the game’s antagonist: your former commanding officer, Nohman, and his mech, Anubis. You are no match and Nohman asks Dingo to rejoin BAHRAM. He declines and Nohman shoots him, leaving him at death’s door and instructs Ken, his subordinate, to dispose of the body. Instead, she decides to secretly revive Dingo by replacing his destroyed organs and hooking him up to Jehuty as life-support to do her bidding. What follows is his journey back to Mars and to save it from BAHRAM.

Stardust Vanguards

Stardust Vanguards

There is no point to buying this game. It’s a local multiplayer game, with no solo campaign or anything to do. Theres a co-op you can solo play but its just fight the same 3 units in the same order for 9 waves on levels with the same background but slightly different obstacles. Theres no online multiplayer. Even if there were the game is boring. You all play the same unit, which can shield, slash, and has a limited number of special shots, and thats it. The worst part is the direction of the slash is the same control as movement, meaning you have to run directly at someone if you want to attack them, which is annoying and counter-intuitive since they can shoot and you melee hit. Theres really no depth as you just use the same 3 abilities. No different abilitities, different characters, etc. Just a bare bones clunky local co-op game, nothing more.

Stardust Vanguards is a great local multiplayer game and a must have for anyone who likes playing with friends locally

I managed to get this game for free through a steam code givaway back around late 2015 and let me just say, it’s pretty good even today. This game has great potential for anyone with a few controllers and some people to play it with. When it comes to local mulitplayer games, this is a must have. Co-op wave based survival with teammates is a blast if you are looking for a bit of a challenge. Not to mention the fact that you can go head-to-head for some versus action, too.

Quick:

3/5. Fans of the old Armored Core days may find themselves browsing Steam and stumbling across a promising looking mecha game named Project Nimbus: Complete Edition. This is how I discovered this title, and my initial expectation stuck with me throughout my entire experience with this game. My expectations were met, and in some ways exceeded. This game is pretty good. If you’re looking for a corny story, quick paced mecha shooting, dodging, and sword slashing… then you’re in the right place. However, if customization of your mecha is what you’re looking for, this is not the game for you. Overall I liked the game, and I recommend a play-through.

Pizza Titan Ultra

Pizza Titan Ultra Review

Pizza Titan Ultra or the Crazy Taxi/Jet Set Radio/Blast Corps of mech based pizza delivery games (I have no idea what that means tbh with you) is a game, (brilliant observation there) where you are trying to save the world or you’re just meet some random person’s odd requests while delivering Pizza or are just trying to deliver as much pizza & get as much money as possible under a time limit.

Gameplay & Level Design

Gameplay is simple but addictive & a tun of fun!

All there really is to it is a simple combat system of 3 different punch maneuvers, a stomp maneuver, a slide kick, a drop kick, & a special ability.

Real player with 78.6 hrs in game

A VERY long awaited review for this game, but here goes nothing. It’s basically if Crazy Taxi and the robot from Megas XLR had a kid and added pizza.

The gameplay is simple enough to enjoy, but not too simple to where it’s boring. You deliver pizzas in a giant mech, which increases your amount of time for you to be able to deliver more pizzas and complete other objectives in the process. There are also yellow clock items that can also increase your time (as opposed to just delivering pizzas) and money spread around the map that can be used to customize your mech in the garage with new parts and colors. Now you might be asking something along the lines of “what’s the kicker here?” Well, being a giant robot pizza delivery service still has competition that is preventing you from achieving your goals. There are enemies that will attempt to prevent you from completing your objectives, but thankfully you’re able to fight back with a variety of different abilities; some of which you unlock in the game through buying customizations for your mech. Your missions will also vary from destroying everything in your path (while delivering pizza) to avoiding destroying anything (also while delivering pizza) to simply just delivering a certain number of pizzas. Each section has a challenge that you can attempt to complete, but it’s not mandatory for you to complete them.

Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut

Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut

While I have experience in space shooters in general, Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut always fancied me when I wanted to try another game. Finally adding this game to my Steam library and clocking in actual playtime, does this game have the merits to be considered worthy to the genre?

The Good:

  • The music is memorable, especially when you get the title Strike Suit. Paul Ruskay of Homeworld fame does it again.

  • The graphics are nicely done, especially on higher end machines. The art style is also appropriate for this title, and

I love spaceships. Always have, always will. In particular, I love fictional spaceships blowing the snot out of each other with lasers, missiles, and giant machineguns. Among that category, I especially love small-scale dogfights between small fightercraft. The careful maneuvering. The tense lining up of the perfect shot. The inadvisable victory flourish of flying through your vaporized enemy’s debris cloud.

Problem is, I suck at it.

The venerable Freespace 2 is widely reputed to be the master of this genre, but buying and playing it left me cold. It seemed to expect that I would have the reflexes, dexterity, and coordination to be an actual fighter pilot, with the ability to juggle power systems, track objectives, use a target-lock system that was like finding a needle in a haystack, command allied wingman, find and execute a target that seemingly has no bearing on the overall battle, all while worrying about pesky enemy fighters that seem infinitely faster and more maneuverable than I am. When all I wanted to do was fly around shooting stuff, this was simply not fun. I have been searching for a game to scratch my Luke Skywalker itch for years, and with Strike Suit Zero, I have finally found it.

Senko no Ronde 2 旋光の輪舞2

Ok, so I’m gonna re-do the review as the old one was for the VERY first version of the game, and after revisiting it with an older RIP I used to own and videos I did, the game has wildly changed.

First, who’s G.Rev?

Most of the Staff is formed by former Taito Employees, you know about G Darius? Ikaruga? Well, this devs were inside those releases doing some sort of collaboration on programming or another, and you can see them in the game credits.

They also did most iMobile Japanese ports (“java” phone ports).

Awesome game. One part shoot-em-up, one part fighting game, Senko No Ronde 2 provides intense action and mind games as you and your opponent swarm eachother with bullets. I highly recommend this game if you are familiar with both game types.

I am running this game on a computer with specs below the minimum, however it is working just fine for me (YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY).

The negative i see is sometimes you’ll be matched with someone and the match is laggy.

Strike Suit Zero

I don’t understand some of the posited reviews saying that this game is too hard or chaotic or bland.

The game is not too difficult, it just has a bit of a learning curve. Truly, I thought it was too easy at first. If you’re a passable shot in Wing Commander or Ace Combat or anything like that, you should be a dead-eye marksman in this. I went through the first three levels not using the lock-on function. It was only later that I discovered the game has a freaking target-lead reticle. If you cant shoot using that, don’t say anything about it because you’re a walking advocate for gun control.

This game suffers of death by a thousand cuts

At first, i was very much taken in. There aren’t many space games anymore so it was nice to have one. The presentation of the game was nice, with voice acting for important characters, and the combat was decent (even though the controls are extremely clunky).

However, after a few hours of fun, you start noticing the many problems this game has :

  • Dogfighting is almost inexistant. It’s so hard to aim, you’re better off using homing missiles to blast small ships.

DAEMON X MACHINA

DAEMON X MACHINA

Armored Core Lite.

This is the closest thing to Armored Core on PC, honestly. It feels and plays like watered and dumbed down Armored Core 4. It lacks customization from AC, but gameplay loop as well as presentation (aka being hired by various Corporations that fighting each other) is very close. Story is absolute cringe and not worth discussing nor following. I can point out some pros and cons to break down the game

Pros:

-Closest thing to Armored Core on PC

-Plays and feels almost as AC4

-Had people who developed AC in dev team

Real player with 43.8 hrs in game

I can highly recommend this game, it’s no armor core that’s for sure however the game does provided a lot of customization however most of it would be “locked” until you encounter that part for the mech or weapon type but overall the game is fun, story is excellent and characters are splendid I actually like about 3 or 4 that are my favorite that doesn’t the rest are bad it’s just my personal tastes really.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

Just finished the game. And, I plan on going back in for New game +. Because, you know… gotta do something til part 3 comes to PC.

First, If you’re new to the series, I recommend playing the first Trails of Cold Steel before this one as this is a continuation and you’d be missing out of great story and character development. Also, your clear data from the first game works with this one if you want to start the second game with a bonus. I actually got into the entire story from playing the Trails in the Sky series, but I don’t think its required to play before this one.

Real player with 193.7 hrs in game

After the Sky games I never thought I’d actually be giving a negative review to one of these games. But after slowly becoming more and more irritated with this one I have to acknowledge that the Cold Steel ones, or at least the two we have, really aren’t as good as their predecessors to the point I’d frankly recommend against buying this one. I enjoyed the first one well enough, but since it leads into this one I wouldn’t get it either.

I won’t say any twists but this does give away the general plot of the game, if the description up top didn’t, so click away if that bothers you. I’ll also be mentioning a twist of the last game, but I assume you played that if you’re reading reviews for the second one.
