Lucky me gets the dubious honour of writing the first review for yet another asset flip on Steam.

Sweet Dream is another GameMaker Studio asset flip from serial copy+paste infringers, Phoenixxx Games. All these guys do is rip off game templates and projects from the Yoyogames/GameMaker Studio store and try to scam people into paying for someone else’s work on Steam. They have run asset flip scams half a dozen times, and this is no exception. It’s nothing but a cash grab.

This time they’ve ripped off a basic template for a mobile app match-3 game. Asset flips and other “Fake games” (as Valve calls them) are harmful to the industry, because they pollute the marketplace and reduce the visibility and exposure needed by genuine indie developers.

Bejeweled Deluxe

Bejeweled Deluxe

Nice simple fun for hours…. there’s not much to this game, but it’s nice to play if you don’t want to get too involved.

Edit: 8/28/2019

Latest Nvidia driver update just installed… can no longer play Bejeweled Deluxe. Game pops up, goes white, entire computer monitor goes blank and then flashes red…. Bejeweled crashes.

Hope there’s a fix…. but since this is an older game, I’m not going to hold my breath that the Developers will do anything… will update review when / if they do.

Ah, the Bejeweled series. Such a simple yet ever-so-addictive set of games I literally put days upon days worth in effort of just simply beating my previous high scores to see how far I could go. Good times. But anyways, lets get into the review. As for the first installment in the main trilogy, it introduces the core gameplay and mechanics that the later titles put additional twists on. Such as in Bejeweled 2, you have the main “classic” and timed modes, but in addition to those 2 modes, B2 introduced the Puzzle and Endless modes. Not in the original title. If you want to start playing the games in an evolution kind of fashion, this is obviously where you should start. As for the gameplay itself, it still holds up fairly well even today, and the randomization of the levels make for good replayability. As a whole, the Bejeweled is a very fun series to get into and I recommend checking out some other games that are similar if the age of this game is a turnoff factor for you.

NOTE: This review is only for the Zen mode at this time. I will add more to this review when I play the other modes more.

An absolutely engaging puzzle game that is very simple: match 3 or more of the same color “monster” and then hit them again to make them disappear. Do this multiple times in a row quickly to complete what I would call a “chain”. The more “chains” you do, the more points you get because the “chain” number equals the multiplier. The objective is to score the most number of points as quickly as you can.

Needs more ways to reward large clears, not just combos! Still, pretty good - although TotalBiscuit would be mad about this game - “a PC match-3 game without mouse support” (as he once said about Frozen Steam version)

As a detective selected to investigate a potential upcoming murder, you come to a mansion ready to solve the case. Upon your arrival, you are met with several people who could be potential suspects that you must keep an eye on. Of course quite rapidly you learn that there is much more to this house than it would appear.

The house’s odd connection to puzzles is how this game really incorporates the games into the story. With every step of your investigation of a mysterious letter, you will have to solve puzzles of varied styles to move forward. You will be put in charge of solving match 3, hidden object, tile matching and Dr Mario styled puzzles from several different characters all with different purposes of solving said puzzles.

7 Wonders: Ancient Alien Makeover

7 Wonders: Ancient Alien Makeover

Out of all of the games in the 7 wonders series, this is the Newest. It is also the most polished feeling and that is a good thing. It really feels like efforts were made to rectify several things that were problematic in the prior 7 wonders Magical Mystery Tour. I found the auto replenishing of special power-ups as you play a neat gimmick even though there were times I had to manually set it when I needed a specific power-up on a repeated basis. I really liked the idea of the village and building it up as you play, it makes it fun and something to aim for as you play. I did notice a couple of things that still are the same that I wish would be changed namely that when you lose a round you also seem to lose the bonuses for that round you get as you build your wonder. I am also still disappointed at the selection of wonders especially this time around even though I found these interesting and learned a lot from them. The mini game in this one was also much better than the ones found in previous games. I expect people to be able to complete this one in a day. In the end this is a nearly perfect game in a series fraught with ups and downs.

7 Wonders: Ancient Alien Makeover (Match-3)

Steam interface does not work with this title

Options include separate sliders for music and sound, full-screen/Windowed, wide-screen, tips on or off, and a handy ? button which will give you an easy-to-understand guide on how the game works.

At the beginning of each Wonder you will have a choice of difficulty: Zen (untimed), Normal, Advanced, and Insane.

Most of us know how match-3 games work, so I’ll skip to some specifics. Each Wonder has 7+ levels of basic swap-to-match gameplay, but with the addition of gathering resources to help build your Wonder. A cornerstone will appear when you’ve cleared all of the tiles on the board, and the level will end when that stone reaches the bottom of the game board. Gameplay on each Wonder does not end until you’ve collected and placed all of the building materials, which means that you’ll need to collect the specified amount of resources per level (tracked at the top of the screen) in order to finish with a four-star rating (higher rating = more coins to spend - back to that later). Building the Wonder itself can be done by manually clicking where you want the resources to go, or you can click on the “place all” button.

7 Wonders II

7 Wonders II

if you like relaxing and casual puzzle games then this one is for you.

the graphics are kind of aged and you can’t even select another screen resolution but it gets the job done. however scaling the game to your actual screen resolution may cause everything to look slightly blurred.

the game starts easy and relaxing but gets more challenging later on. usually there is a time limit for each level so you don’t have all day to finish the job but as soon as you get a grip on the game that shouldn’t be a big problem.

So I’ve now finished all of the 5 “7 Wonders”-Games playable on Steam

and want to give out my opinion on all of them, therefore I paid every game a little visit again to compare them once and for all. Starting the review, first, I’ve made a Top 5 for you to get a good first look on how much I like it:

THE GAME STAGES ARE NOT TOO EASY AND HAVE

A GOOD VARIETY OF ITEMS TO MATCH.

WITH YOUR EARNED POINTS YOU CAN “BUY” SOME EXTRA

TOOLS TO SPEED UP YOUR LEVEL TASK.

BACKGROUND MUSIC AND SOUND FX’s ARE RELAXING.

THERE IS NO USELESS VOICE OVER OR DISTURBING CHARACTERS ACTION.

I WOULD REALLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME.

This is a good concept, so it’s unfortunate that the game is buggy and broken. This means that you can get completely stuck in a level and never be able to get out of it, even to buy the items that will help you to complete it (which you will not find out about ahead of time). The developers should have done testing before this was ever released for sale.
