Princess Farmer

Princess Farmer

Princess Farmer is a match3 puzzle and visual novel game with easy to learn action mechanics and different playstyles that let you breeze through the game or challenge you. All three of the playstyles earn you rewards! The story is played in episodes, much like magical-girl anime, with each lasting between 20 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your chosen playstyle, your skills, and whether you decide to skip dialogue interactions. Different level goals keep you on your toes and bring a fresh approach to the match3 genre. Dialogue options let you choose how Princess Farmer interacts with her friends, affecting your relationships with them. Make them your BFF and they may reward you with gifts!

Princess Farmer was just an ordinary farmer when one day she woke up under the Gaia Tree. Now through the magic of Mother Gaia, she can hoist up whole rows of veggies with ease to make matches and smash obstacles by herself, in co-op, or even with an AI companion! Something mysterious is happening in the woods and it’s your job to puzzle your way to uncover it! You’ll learn about the world around you as you talk and build relationships with the loveable characters including: Mother Gaia, Garlic, Shoppe Keeper Rowan, and even Bot Bunny!

Make combos! Smash rocks! Win hearts!

Action Puzzle Gameplay

It may look like Princess Farmer plays like modern match-3 games but it’s much more strategic and reaction-based, tasking you with character movement and stack management. You can choose to adjust how you approach your strategy to maximize matches, combos, and smashes. Personalize your playstyle: are you an Action Bunny, a Puzzle Bunny, or a Balance between the two? Level goals range from simple (like score, timed, harvest a certain veggie) to challenging (like fulfilling requests, avoiding matching certain veggies, danger areas). Some levels will pit you up against a (pretty adorable) opponent. But watch out for storms! That’s when Grumpy Block shows up to spoil all your harvesting fun!

Play with a Friend

Sure harvesting is fun by yourself, but why not invite a friend? You can harvest together and even make dialogue choices together as you explore world. With Steam’s Remote Play Together, you don’t even have to be in the same house!

Collect Unlockables

As you play, you’ll earn Heart Coins which you can give to Ro at the Shoppe to collect different Hare Dyes. Charm the characters with dialogue options to unlock new outfits so you can harvest in style!

Charming Graphics

It’s cute! It’s bouncy! It’s pink! It’s retro! It’s BUNNIES!

Vibrant Soundtrack

Produced by Astra, the soundtrack is bubbly, blending chiptunes with lo-fi beats.

Witch Stone

Witch Stone

Lucky me gets to write the first review for Witch Stone, which is a 2D mobile app tier clicker/physics puzzle from known asset flippers, Piece of Voxel. This is a basic retro puzzle game that plays like Bust-A-Move but without shooting, you just click on balls to make them fall and if they fall the right way they pop.

The artwork is minimal and looks to be phoned in/asset flipped (not a surprise, this is Piece of Voxel we’re dealing with).

There’s no working full screen mode, in fact, if you hit alt+enter, Piece of Voxel actually go out of their way to insult PC gamers by telling you they won’t allow you to try switch to full screen (“Don’t even try, i won’t let you do it), then terminate the game. Insulting your customers is not a winning strategy, but then this is Piece of Voxel, who make a living stealing other people’s work and trying to sell it on Steam as a scam. What’s that? Oh yes:

Secrets of Magic: The Book of Spells

Secrets of Magic: The Book of Spells

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

My full playthrough with 100% achievements, on Challenge Mode took about 12 hours… game was paused quite a bit while I did other things, so playtime shown is not truly accurate.

Fun and cute match 3 game, with an interesting, if somewhat shallow, story. Not much to the story, but more than most Match 3 games have, and suitable for most children.

!00 levels, and 2 difficulties (Casual and Challenge). Casual has no limiton moves, Challenge gives you a set number of moves, with the ability to spend coins earned in-game to buy 10 extra moves.

I wasn’t expecting to make a review of this game, but I do actually have a few things to say.

First of all, this game is intended for children, and anyone above the age of 8 won’t be very interested in the characters or story. In short, it’s about a girl that finds out shes a witch, and she learns alot of spells.

So remove the story element and you are left with a match-3 game. So does that hold up?

Yes and no.

The game has some fun mechaincs like imps that multiply, blocks of stone you need to break and spiders that will web tiles.

Rescue Quest Gold

Rescue Quest Gold

I haven’t played many match-3 games lately but the art for Rescue Quest Gold caught my eye. It’s bright and colorful, and the game is divided into different areas with their own themes so there’s always something new to look at. It’s pretty challenging unlike Bejeweled but definitely less frustrating than Candy Crush. There are objectives per level to reach the cage, get keys, or defeat enemies. They say the path-based mechanic adds a bit of strategy, but I think it’s pretty straightforward and not overcomplicated. There’s a mix of easy and hard levels so you don’t get bored easily. You also get powerups and spells to use, and it takes some practice to figure out which ones to solve specific levels. The music gets kind of repetitive (if you’re stuck in a level or region for so long) but they are whimsically beautiful if you listen to them out of the game (there’s a bonus content menu). In terms of price, I’d say there’s a lot of replay value to this. I wouldn’t mind starting over again at Level 1 after I finish. This game definitely needs some more love. My only complaint: should have a high score leaderboard! :P

Real player with 56.0 hrs in game

This game was a ton of fun, and the community behind it made it even better. I ended up 100%ing the game and it was definitely satisfying to take my video of “look I did it!” back to the Boomzap family to celebrate. There is enough of a story that it doesn’t feel like a plain match-3 grind, and the types of levels are varied enough that you shouldn’t ever get TOO terribly comfortable with a particular style of level.

The map generation honestly makes the game feel more like a strategy game with elements of procedural generation, since your starting layout of tile colors is going to be different each time and for those 1-tile corridors it’s going to have some clutch RNG moments. It’s not a plain Jane Bejeweled arcade game, but to a certain level you can treat it that way if you prefer. All in all, a really fun time sink.

+1 Match 3

Real player with 1.8 hrs in game

In this video I take a look at Angkor: Runefall, a nice new match three from HH-Games and Ironcode.

This is a refreshing change, it has it’s own look and way of doing thing from most of the HH-Games match threes. It still keeps all of the flare but looks different and has some unique perks. I enjoyed it and think it’s worth a look for a match 3 change.

Heroic Adventures

Heroic Adventures

This is a ‘Match-3’ game, you need to beat your opponent by constantly eliminating blocks. Different from other ‘Match-3’ games, your skill is not the most important in this game. The most important thing is luck, because the random props are powerful and can help you a lot. If you encounter props many times in one game, you will win easily.

I’ve seen many people give bad comments on this game, but personally, it’s just a tiny little game. Its music is also very good. I think it’s a little pretty good.

Real player with 2.3 hrs in game

“Heroic Adventures” - This is the case when a seemingly ordinary (basically watered down) puzzle game challenges the player (unnecessary) and player understands that victory depends on his attention and reaction and RNG.

Sharpen your sword (not your mind) and go on an (insane) adventure! In order to perpetuate your name in history (leaderboards?), you need to defeat the 1000HP dragon and on the way you will (meet&greet) many other stupid enemies. Enemies have different characteristics (allegedly), so you need to act quickly by collecting combinations of 3 (fist bug) or more identical tiles to attack the enemy. As you progress, your character becomes stronger and learns new (randomly dropping) magic spells: you can turn the enemy into a stone, or make a hoof strike, make a big combo and deal a lot of damage to the enemy! (Sometimes they simply come too late)
