Cato, the cat

Cato, the cat

“Cato, the cat” is a casual match 3 game.

The player needs to take care of Cato, a very smart cat, through a match 3 mechanic to prevent Cato from running away. Feed, hydrate and of course play a lot with Cato so he won’t run away.

Play to relax or to get the best scores.

Pushcat

Pushcat

Pushcat is a great game!!

The game is very addicting!

It is a different kind of match 3 game because you have to plan your moves and use different strategies to win the games within levels. You get coins after you match 3 or more gems but then you have to go back and collect the coins which is easier said than done. You can play a game (cave) a few times and then realize what you need to do to beat it! There are 50 caves to beat, they are all different, some have a few gems some have hundreds of gems.

Arcade block pusher + match 3 with charming pixel/chip style.

(In the trailer, the camera pans around segments of several boards from the game, but in actual gameplay each whole level is fully visible when you play it)

Pushcat matches up colored gems to turn them into coins, collects coins to unlock the exit. Action & movement are similar to classics like Dig-Dug, Mr. Do, and Boulder Dash. Pushcat can move freely in 4 directions, but blocks & coins will fall down until they either land on a surface or fall off the board. In addition to pushable gems and junk blocks, there are stationary wall blocks and diggable tiles.

A relaxing watercolor “zuma-like” where you play as a cat

Playing as a cat - 20/20

Yes.

Acting like a cat - 5/20

You’re generally “shooting” your projectiles by knocking things off a ledge, which is obviously cat-like behavior. The menu is also full of small delights where you chew on plants and try to knock over vases. For most of the gameplay, though, the cat could be replaced with any other sprite (say, a frog) without losing anything.

This is a charming little idler game that is very relaxing.

The game is structured into 12 different paintings tied to months of the year, each with 4 stages. The goal is to match the paints (“Color Spirits”) to 1 or more of the same kind to eliminate them. Each stage sends out 100 Color Spirits to float through the scene and in order to pass the stage, you must get 60 points (1 point for each one you eliminate). Despite the simplicity of the concept, there is slight increasing of difficulty within each month’s painting stages. My favorite thing about this is the collision. You can send the Color Spirits sprawling into other, non-matching ones which can send them flying. This allows for a couple strategies. You can create chain reactions if the Color Spirits are placed just right! Or you can use non-matching ones to try and push Color Spirits into others of the same type within the line of floating spirits! But be careful; you can also push them right off the screen, which means you won’t be able to match them, so that’s fewer points for you to accumulate.

Combat Cats

Combat Cats

Personally, as a casual gamer, I’m enjoying this game a lot.

Let’s just jump right into what you want to know:

Gameplay: Simple! Swap the tile you’re given with any on the board to make groupings of 4 or more to damage your foes before they damage you! Get money and catnip to spend on upgrades and new ships and weapon power-ups to help you hit harder and faster to get more stars at the end of each level in order to progress.

Sound: Retro but a little repetitive. What you hear in the trailer is what you get. Nothing obnoxious, but nothing spectacular either. You can turn on or off sounds or music but that’s it.

Good puzzle game. When I only have a few minutes to spare, I still go back and play it every once and a while despite finishing it.

You can probably cruise through it in 3-4 hours, if you just push for completion and ignore collection and achievements.

I liked the idea of earning earning catnip (The leaves?) and money to buy things and upgrade ability. Keeps it interesting.

Money was weighted quite well relative to the length of game. This means you don’t grind too much, but it takes a decent time to get the cash.

Sparkles & Gems

Sparkles & Gems

A really special gem of a game with a perfectly consistent visual aesthetic and a rocking soundtrack. The match 3 puzzle mechanics alone are fresh but familiar. Treasure mode alone is just a fun grind that I can see myself putting a lot of time into in my future.

What makes this game something truly special and likely to make my game of the year list is the story mode. It drew me in quickly as I tried to understand what this game was. The writing feels familiar but also completely original. It’s strange reality depicted somehow feels more true to life than any ““realistic”” story game I’ve played. This game is really unique. Any point of comparison I can think of would be a disservice to just how special this game really is.

This game is like if Breakout, Bejeweled, and Tetris multiplayer had an orgy and made the ultimate casual game. Each element is familiar but put together really well in a way that makes it fresh and exciting. The gameplay is top notch and super addicting. Games can get really close, and there are often nail-biting moments where you think you’re screwed but barely come out on top. In addition the game is super satisfying to play, which I chalk up to the excellent sound design. Breaking gems and hitting combos never fails to scratch an itch. The music is also really catchy and gets stuck in your head quite easily.
