Day Repeat Day
The match-3 aspect is standard, but the story-telling and choices affecting endings is pretty cool. The overall feel of the game is brilliant and I love stuff like this. Perhaps a bit steep at full price buut it’s a great experience - give it a shot on sale.

WTF did I just play? Just when I thought I’d seen it all, someone mixes a match-3 game with a visual novel and some kind of dystopian/satirical life sim, throws in weird video sequences and lots of social and political commentary, and the result is amazingly good? Like, seriously, it doesn’t only get points for originality, it’s actually really well done. The UI is a bit bare-bones, but the writing is brilliant, the piano music beautiful and atmospheric, and I’m not an expert on match-3 puzzles, but they seemed very good as well - challenging, but not frustrating, and also perfectly integrated in the story.

gems of magic: lost family is supposed to be a match-3 game suitable for kids, yet it has a mandatory move limit, running out fails the level. what were they thinking?
don’t expect much from the narrative, but it’s there, cutscenes and all. basically, you’re a family of fuzzy balls (they remind me of fury of the furries, a classic platformer from 1993), minding your own business, when suddenly your relatives get sucked up by a tornado. a wise bird hands you a bunch of gems, which are supposed to help track them down somehow. what happens is, after every few levels a family member gets rescued.

Halloween Trouble 2
This is ok as a basic match 3 game. Unfortunately, it introduces many new game elements after level 9 with absolutely no explanation and no clear way to deduce what they mean, how they work, or how to play them. A simple icon/mechanics glossary page would be a simple solution. Or even a manual, but I know such archaic things as how-to-play documents are now anathema to game designers (or publishers).

This is a good concept, so it’s unfortunate that the game is buggy and broken. This means that you can get completely stuck in a level and never be able to get out of it, even to buy the items that will help you to complete it (which you will not find out about ahead of time). The developers should have done testing before this was ever released for sale.

Allura: Curse of the Mermaid
In this video I take a look at Allura: Curse of the Mermaid, a match-3 game from eFunsoft and HH-Games.
It’s been a while since I have played an HH-Games match three and this title is a terrific one to come back to. A great product, although they do like to use stills for the cut scenes. If your a match three fan this title will definitely fill the need, it has all the features of a modern match three in a high quality package. Take a look.

Allura: Curse of the Mermaid is a badly made mobile-tier match-3 puzzle game with old, dead match-3 gameplay and a mermaid/underwater theme.
I couldn’t find this on the app stores so maybe it was removed. Apple and Google have quality control where Valve doesn’t. This is pretty bad even as far as mobile match-3 games go, with some pretty bad artwork. HH-Games once more show us they’re capable of nothing but cash grabs, as this mobile app has a whopping $6 price tag, just so you can pretend your PC is an iPhone and play the kind of mobile game that’s free everywhere else.

Runes of Avalon 2
I really wanted to give this game a thumbs up, but it is all but totally broken. It has a main menu with several choices on it, but only “Quest” and “Quit” work.
Quick Play and Gallery do not function. Part of the game is a mixed up puzzle, which when you solve it it becomes the new background for the puzzle - but you NEVER SEE IT! It disappears the instant you solve it and it is covered by every puzzle you play. I assume Gallery is supposed to show you the completed pictures… who knows?
The puzzles in the quest are very entertaining, presenting a real challenge to the player, with nice graphics, and some are very difficult to solve. You can turn on the game’s music, a nice selection of instrumentals.

In this video I take a look at Runes of Avalon 2, a match three with a difference.
In this title instead of the gems falling from the top like most match 3’s they are generated as shapes you need to place like TETRIS only you can move them anywhere with your mouse to try and form matches with shapes and colours. Pretty straight forward once you see it in action. Like most match 3’s it still has powerups and spells but as per the rest of the game it has it’s own unique take on them. It’s a nice change and it all works quite well unlike some attempts at different match 3 styles. The game play is both fun and can pack a punch, especially in some of the more advanced levels with timed mode where you need to use powerups or you won’t win. Take a look.

The Treasures of Montezuma 4
I never thought a game I picked up for less than a cup of coffee would be up there with my favorite Match 3 games of all time, but it is. With gameplay that is easy to learn but hard to master, I found myself addicted to The Treasures of Montezuma 4 in no time.
Gameplay consists of your standard Match 3 fair, swap the position of the tokens to match 3 of the same color to remove them from the board and score points. The twist comes in with totems and power-ups that you purchase with coins earned by completing levels. Chaining color matches will power up your totems and release their abilities onto the board. Determining which power-ups are most beneficial for each game board is where the real strategy comes in. Running out of time? Start chaining those oranges. Find yourself stuck with few good matches? Chain up a couple reds and let those fireballs fly. Snap decisions and twitch reactions are required, especially when playing on Expert, but finally FINALLY earning Gold on that one level that’s been giving you fits is so incredibly satisfying you’ll want to keep playing until you can’t possibly play anymore.

Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match
Titles based on some old physical game are almost always a good choice, as long as the developer does not stumble along the way! Fortunately, Hanoi Puzzles: Solid Match is no exception. The implementation of this version is impeccable, and the fun from the original game is undoubtedly present here.

Solving all puzzle levels is easy. But finishing them within the sugested number of moves is not so easy.
Solving 5 levels in less moves then sugested, is a real challenge.
Recommended game for puzzle lovers and achievements hunters.
