The Castle Doctrine

The Castle Doctrine

The Castle Doctrine is a creepy and unnerving exploration of the idea of home security and more specifically, the doctrine which it is named after.

You begin with 2000 dollars, a lovely wife, two beautiful children and a wide open empty home. You have a vault that you keep your money in. Everyone else around you lives in similar houses, with lovely wives and beautiful children of their own. They also started with 2000 dollars and a wide open and empty home.

Trouble is, 2000 dollars is not enough for anyone. They’re going to come for your money soon enough. And if that’s not enough, they’ll come for your family and take anything your wife is holding onto for you. You’re the man of the house. It’s up to you to protect the things that matter to you. So you build a security system.

EDIT: This review is obsolete. It describes what the game was like when the community was vivid and bustling (it was a very fun game back then). Nowadays almost no one plays this game and the few houses that remain are very much unbreakable.

In order to enjoy this game you need to accept it’s rules:

*There’s not going to be any hand-holding, you’re supposed to learn how to play the game by trial-and-failure. Some of the best experiences from this game come from experimenting by your own initiative and gradually learning better methods to build and destroy trap systems. Tutorials would only ruin all the fun of learning by dying or getting robbed.

I love the minimalist art style even if the contrast between bordering colors can make it difficult to make out features occasionally. I also understand this wasn’t a big budget MMO or even one individual’s personal passion project MMO. I’m completely okay with permadeath as well, even if it’s not a personal preference.

The issue with this game is the complete lack of meaningful gameplay. You heal in water and hit stuff to upgrade stats. If others played, you could all do this together. The battles are your standard time-based RNG style with no real interactivity.

Realm of the Mad God Exalt

Realm of the Mad God Exalt

I’ve been playing this game since it was on browser back in 2011, so I’d like to think I have some experience or at least enough time put in to give my opinion on the game, so here it is:

The game has come a long way, and I still remember having the time of my life back then - dying and learning from my mistakes, getting excited from T5 items, and being proud of myself for soloing snake pits. It was a simple time, but time moves on and to live in the past and say it was a better time is just false. A lot has changed from then, and most of it was for the better. Exalt is the most recent example of the game forever changing for the better, but I still have a few problems with the game. First, I feel the game is just one big grind. Don’t get me wrong though, I think the nature of white bags and the idea of perma-death is the games biggest strength, but I also feel the sense of teamwork and coordination is long gone. So many times do I see a server full/crowded, but the realms themselves are empty. Where are the people you ask? Sitting in nexus waiting for someone to throw money at the screen so they can pop a dungeon, just for everyone to sit in spawn room waiting for one person to rush to boss so that it can be steamrolled and the process can repeat. I have had multiple friends try the game out, and almost all of them have lost interest fairly quick, but my most recent friend said something that stayed with me when I asked for his opinion. He said that the game wasn’t bad, but it felt very brain-dead not giving him an objective other than shoot monster. This leads into my next point: The game is horrible for new players. The tutorial has be revised, but I feel it doesn’t do enough to give new players direction. Sure, you could say that the fun of the game is finding out for yourself, but after he asked when he should move on to the next area it was clear the game didn’t really set a scene for him. All he know at that point was he was a guy who shoots enemies to gain XP, and possible loot. He didn’t know where to go or how things worked, which is fine until I asked him if he was having fun and responded with: I wish there was more progression than kill enemies and move onto next area. Things just became more clear that he was lost when i had to explain to him how to teleport, something I dont believe the tutorial tells you about. Just like every other new player, he was also greeted with spam in the nexus about external websites and instant 8/8, which he didnt even know what the concept of potion maxing was at the time, because once again it isnt mentioned in the tutorial. Finally, my biggest problem with the game: pets. I was very excited when I found out pets were finally going to do something other than follow you around and look cute, and im not going to lie I was a huge fan when they first introduced pet abilities. This was, however, very shorted lived when I found out the grind nature of pets. First, you have to randomly be dropped an egg, use the egg in the pet yard, and hope it has heal and magic heal - the only 2 abilities that matter other than electric. That find an dandy until you realize you have to use fame to feed the pet, then you have yo use fame to upgrade the yard in order to further feed it, and then use fame to fuse the pet. But heres the catch: if you don’t feed the pet fully, or fuse properly you could screw up and get something useless to you. Pets are such a big part of the game, so big that there is literally a status effect that disables your pet. So the fact that they are locked behind so much grind (or a pay wall), baffles me. Gone are the days of being able to play realm without a pet, and if you do play without a pet you have to be in a big group to compensate for your lack of heal and magic heal. I don’t wish for the removal of pets, they are way to integrated into the game for removal. I do think they should be either nerfed, or easier to obtain. My big complaint with the game is that we focus so hard on end game stuff that the beginner stuff is lost. Maybe allow new players to start off with a half maxed common pet with heal and magic heal, or make it so players have to rely on team work over a Divine pet.

Ok after 10 years and thousands of hours of playing (imagine think i only played 2k hours), I would not recommend this pile of sh*t to anyone in its current state (which persist since years).

At this point i just want to quote an user of the rotmg-reddit since this is exactly my point of view and i would def write the exact same.

“I feel like noone really cares enough or talks about the actual state of rotmg game health in 2021. Sure you see people complain, but as players there’s so many unacceptable things which we just tolerate and let Deca get away with instead of pushing for them to fix it.

Tribal Wars

Tribal Wars

I have been playing this game since 2007. Most of the gameplay is still the same from back then. But now with a lot of QoL improvements. The game is well balanced overall, but sometimes a little too much luck based. I have a lot of great memories from this game and made a lot of friends aswell. The game is easy to start with but hard to master.

However the developers do not know what to do with this game and destroyed this beautifull game the last couple of years. The game has become too much pay to win in my eyes and it’s not doing any good. I don’t mind to pay for extra premium functions, but buying resources, cheaper buildings, instantly finishing buildings, with your own money to get an advantage over other players is just plain wrong in my eyes. Also the addition of flags is only benefitting the older players and not the newer ones.

This was mostly a trip down memory lane for me. I played on World 18 and 19 about 12 years ago. And, by the way, the game on their international server is currently on World 117. This is on the Tribal Wars US server. But, the game is more or less the same.

This game requires a lot of baby sitting. Everything runs in real time. And, it is highly recommended that you get in a good tribe early–or that you join one that is very good diplomatically to become aligned with the winning tribe. If you start later than a few days after world launch, you are already in trouble and could end up continually getting conquered and restarted.

Information / Review English

Prehistoric Marine Monsters is a simulation MMO that was developed by ‘Kill On Sight’ Game development and is still in the development phase.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kxq07Elw7_4

Gameplay / Story

At the beginning of the game you choose from three different types of underwater inhabitants: fish, reptile or mammal. There are also categories which differ in the species such as: Dunkleoseus, Megalodon, Ichtiyosaurus, Liopleudrodon, Mosasaurus, Tylosaurus and Acrophyseter. Each type has advantages and disadvantages. You create your avatar and adapt it to your preferences. And then the adventure starts from the bird’s eye view and we find ourselves in nowhere in the great ocean. Soon we find some sunken boats, crashed remains of planes or simply stone pillars, which used to belong to cities. Our sea creatures will soon get hungry and we will have to look for food. Fortunately, there are enough other animals in the ocean that like to end up as a meal. But you have to keep in mind that everyone starts small, so you should choose your prey carefully and consider whether you should mess with an animal that is twice as large or look for something else. The models look great and you can see the attention to detail there. If you find another player, you can chat with him or even fight a duel, which is deliciously rewarded after the victory. The meat of the hunted prey tastes all the better. When you’re out and about in groups, it’s all the more fun. The controls still need a suitable fine-tuning, as it looks a bit fiddly and the game world could also be filled up so that it comes across even more lively. The developers are very active and you can find them on the servers, but questions can also be answered via Discord.

Darkwind: War on Wheels

Darkwind: War on Wheels

So much time wasted on this game.

I regret most of it.

I remember installing this game for the first time years ago. I didn’t know about Mad Max, nor did I even try to get informations on Car Wars. I have now played a couple of single-player campaigns of Car Wars, mostly for getting the hang of the game. I’m an Interceptor/Road Warrior/Fury Road fangirl, so I thought this game would be cool.

The only way I can describe this is: it will get worse the more you play it, in every literal way possible. I take breaks, but I end up returning here, mostly because there is no other Wasteland RPG about car combat worth of playing (they’re mostly all about stupid trashy races and senseless pewpew, nothing near Interstate 82, and we all know that game is old and hard to get working on today’s systems) and so I come back here from time to time.

Real player with 734.5 hrs in game

All in all, Darkwind can be very fun to play but without any future content or bug fixes, I can’t recommend the time investment or to invest any money into the game. Don’t expect to just hop into the game and understand the lobby or interface without asking questions in lobby chat or researching. Most of the veteran players are very friendly and helpful so don’t be afraid to chat them up if you do decide to give it a shot.

If you just want to play for free, you have nothing to lose. Only real limitation on free to play is you are stuck in Somerset, the beginning town. My guess is you will find this game entertaining for about a month or two of daily gaming if it is your cup of tea. If it isn’t, you won’t make it much farther than the tutorial before you uninstall.

Inferno Wizards

Inferno Wizards, a little lack luster. Considering the most recent update was adding crosshairs and a camera actions I didn’t have my expectations set high. The graphics are okay, it’s very pieced together from a download pack feel but all in all I expect this to be a decent game. 5/10 with no eye balls.

I put in about 30 minutes, became level 10, found the key “n” if pressed fast was a great way to climb through the air.

This is gorgeous. Please keep the opa gangham climb. Add a controller layout/config in settings. I don’t know how to talk to NPCs. Deadass, I’d scrap the WoW leash of a skill tree. Go where WoW went wrong/skimped. I’d try to add skill-based progression in the game, how the weapons were in classic and how skyrim is. Maybe add achievements for each skill. Like, hit 4 dudes at once with a fireball 50 times to upgrade the radius or consecutively land 5 fully charged fireballs on any opponent to increase the maximum charged damage, etc. Maybe add a simpler LoL-style ability modification system. Like this item will directly enhance any applicable ability by an obvious multiplier. This would make things very easy to balance and math later. Add full-drop PvP loot like in Darkfall Online. Not the new defecation of the lazes that bought the brand, the original game. Maybe instead of using the monotonous “buy your skills here, at master whateverurclassis”, you could award skills after achieving a certain mastery in a tree (skills known, achievements earned, skill levels attained, etc.), or by finding a scroll held by a selfish wizard, or defeating a boss ghost that imbues its killer with their ability, chance drop, etc. You have a really cool game here, I’d love to get involved.

[Will edit this in the future if I ever see problems with the game arising.]

Solid game; one of the two games I’m playing on a regular basis & don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.

It’s a lot of fun if you’re into challenging games, you might think that you’ve got it on lock and you won’t die anymore but it only takes one mistake to ruin your run and lose all them rare items that you had. It gets quite emotional.

What I want to shed light on the most is that only two people made this game & they’re doing a splendid job communicating with their players; logging in regularly and talking in global chat, often answering a lot of the questions that the players have. They’re even on Discord answering questions there and making announcements so that you’re always kept up to date. I’m worried that in the future they may start succumbing to the demands of noobs but we shall see. It is permadeath so they’re bound to get loads of negativity from those who can’t git gud.

But its bad when lag strikes and skills dont register properly and cause you to lose your ship.

Yes it is a perma death game, once you lose your ship, it is gone forever. After the new patch, pings get very high to almost unplayable

Naturally i will recommend this game, but make sure you have good pings before investing more time into this game.
