Otherland MMO

Otherland MMO

I don’t often write reviews on steam, but there’s such a sea of Negative reviews for Otherland, I figure it’s worth putting in my two cents for people who are deciding whether to pick it up or not.

To begin, yes, there are absolutely issues with Otherland. The game still has a lot of bugs and some issues with combat and it’s unclear whether it’s going to get any further development. This review is of the game as it stands right now (though the game has a massive amount of potential with some more resources and work put into it).

It’s true there are some problems with this game, such as some bugs and accuracy issues with combat. But what really does redeem the game is its extraordinary environment design. It’s surreal, atmospheric and unique, and definitely the most visually striking and memorable I have seen in any MMO. Given the very low player numbers it’s not going to be the best MMO gaming experience. But if you try the game with that expectation, there is still a lot to enjoy. Try exploring the neon lit Lambda Mall, with its flying cars and numerous theme bars (like the “Love Nurse Clinic”) buzzing with NPCs dancing in total silence, or the menacing cityscape of the “Bad Sector”. The open world areas are big, varied and full of interesting detail, like the jungle with its aggressive ladybirds the size of small cars, or the mountainous “8squared” area with its frequent blizzards, holographic grim reapers and giant chess pieces hovering ominously in the sky. It all feels weird and unsettling, like a 1960s film set in a nightmarish future. From what I’ve experienced so far, the gameplay feels almost secondary to the strange and haunting world in which it takes place. There may not be enough potential players left to make fixing the game’s remaining problems viable, which is a shame. In slightly better shape, it would provide a refreshing alternative to the tired medieval fantasy cliches of many MMOs. Even as it is, give me Otherland over any of the awful cookie cutter cash grab games that clutter the genre. If you are looking for another WoW you are going to be disappointed, but playing Otherland is still engaging and memorable because of its bizarre and visually stunning environment. It may have it’s flaws, but overall it’s a way better experience than the bad reviews here would suggest.

There is a certain charm to Hackmud where, despite some of the flaws that I have been very much accustomed to over my 12,000 logged Steam hours in this game, I still continue to play this game, or at the very least have an interaction with it, daily. If I were to make a shortlist of my favourite video games of all time, would Hackmud be in this list? Compared to actual video gaming masterpieces? After a lot of deliberation, my answer is: “No at its core, but considering everything I’ve been through with it, yes”. Hackmud stands as a testament to the sheer entertainment potential of even the smallest and roughest of games with the right kind of mechanics to allow for infinite user-generated content.

This is one of my favorite games I’ve ever played. It’s hard to explain exactly what the draw is in a concise way, so be prepared for a little reading.

It’s easy to say that I love it for the scripting, which is my primary focus, but the reason I love it is so much more than that. The atmosphere really clicks for me, where the lore is presented “Dark Souls style”, which takes some digging to reveal - and what it shows you makes you want to know more. The npcs in this game talk from time to time, and as you see what they have to say you may start to realize they are not just making jokes, spamming weather reports, and adding to the lore, but they also hint at secrets that players can find.

Unusual fighting game! It catches its atmosphere and interesting ideas in mechanics, many of which I have not seen in any other game. Loved the lightsabers. Unusual combo system: action-pause-action, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

Of course, there is still room for the game to grow, but this is not a reason to miss it! I advise you to try, because you have not seen fighting games with lightsabers)

Pretty good, well-developed fighting game, very unusual, but also very cool, in my opinion, the battle mechanics. I liked the animation and visual presentation, the graphics are pleasing to the eye. I definitely recommend buying

This game may look like a cheap, simple game but it is so much fun to play. It is tactical and focused on positioning, precision, and speed, yet it is still a fun and casual game. There are many different tactics and strategies to learn. The TTK is lower than most BR games, which makes the gameplay more fast paced than an average BR. It takes the skills used in other similar shooters, but puts them to use in a whole new way. Something unique is that camping is an essential part of the game, but there are ways to counter it, which makes it a “campfest” without it being annoying. It does have a high price tag, but it is absolutely worth it if you are into BR games or tactical shooters. The first day was a success, and I am hopeful for the future of this game.

Now, Ill just be upfront and honest with yall; Yes, the game is currently 98% Bots [ on NA Servers ] as far Ive experienced in the past two days BUT that doesnt mean that you will be playing empty lobbies, the game does have bots to fill up a lobby for the lack of players so youll always have a full lobby! On that note, I do believe getting out some of the only negative things holding back the game ( for me atleast ) will be more beneficial than just acting like the game is completely perfect, because its not, as is no game that exists but this one has enough care and creativity put into it to keep me coming back and playing over other games~

Excellent! Room for improvement - more maps, bikes, supersampling for GFX option please. And if posssible for the controllers on vive the posibility to control the bike by leaning the controlers to an angle to turn. more posibilities for controling. more speed - where you can actually hold the right triiger for example for constant increasing in acceleration. (up to a point). it would be nice to have powerups. The music is great! It’s a good game - i recommend it.

I’ve played VR for a loong time and never really understood the whole people getting motion sick thing, but after just a few rounds I was floored from how nausious I felt. 10/10 though. The few rounds I played were an absolute blast! Ridind side by side with other players staring you down as one of you tries to mind game the other into making a mistake. All I have to say is the price/potential alone makes it worth it from what I played. Just be warned that this game may make you feel sick to your stomach after a few games.

Anarchy Online

Anarchy Online

I would definitely recomended this game, i used to play AO back in the days when it was freshly out etc i ended up playing for a lot longer than anticipated and have recently returned.

Over the years gaming has changed an awful lot, i have played almost all of the MMOs out there both old and new, but i have to say that AO is my favourite, i like the complexity the time it takes to do things and the mathematics to working out how i’m going to get those high level imps on at low level in order to equip my new belts, ncus, armour/weapons and ofcourse imps, the thing most people don’t seem to be aware of with AO is that the twinking aspect of it is extremely complex. Unlike other MMOs most bits you will find in AO are not level locked, like in WOW for example say your twinking at level 30 you can only equip “from level 30” items, however on AO you do not have this limit so all depending how good you are at maths and how willing you are to devote time to your toons you can make extraordinary twinks (which i love!).

Review Notes:

I played on the Steam client for 37.4 hrs, until I downloaded the New Engine from the Anarchy Online website. The New Engine is now my primary engine but it doesn’t count toward my steam hours. That said, I have about 100 hours in this game as of writing this review.

General Game Review:

I’ve never played an MMO that was so complex. If I had known of this game when it came out, I would have been playing it all along. However, I only learned about this game this year (2019).
