Planet Surf: The Last Wave

Big game! It a very different experience from the games I’ve played lately, a true surprise on Steam. If you like casual-style games with a good vibe, this game is definitely for you.

Great game!

I already imagined it would be fun to surf the waves of the planets but I was surprised because it’s so much better! Congratulations to the Devs!

Besides being fun, it’s relaxing :)

To infinity and beyond!

Martian Law

Martian Law

If you like classic 80’s style arcade games, you’ll love Martian Law. It’s recommended to use a controller and I found out why. I first thought a 3 button Sega Genesis mini classic USB controller would work but it doesn’t have the dual sticks needed. I used an Xbox One controller and it works perfectly with Martian Law.

Like classic arcades, this game can get quite tough, but that’s the point. When the power ups come, it can really help out when the screen is falling all around. I love the weapon upgrades, this can help rack up the score quickly. I’m a very old school gamer and I like that I can switch between windowed and full screen within the game menu, I hate having to fiddle with a keyboard trying to figure that stuff out, simple is better!

it’s a cute game, but the controls kind of suck, and the graphics can be a bit eye-straining and the music is loud, kind of annoying, and gets repetitive fast. the gameplay itself is incredibly lackluster, with there only being a few powerups, and the way the game works encouraging sitting in a corner and doing nothing, the bombs can hit through the middle platform so trying to maneuver around is a chore, so i found myself sitting at the screen’s edge, letting the bombs fall. the saving grace is when you get the powerups as you no longer have to be so inert, you can shoot horizontally but there’s no real point in doing that cause by the time it is useful the bombs are already at the ground, though diagonal can help make it so you have to move even less. the game discourages movement, which from the get go makes it bad. not to mention the only reason to even move in the first place is to avoid megaton bombs or go and deal with the laser bots. that’s it, the corner of the screens provide protection from everything else and time will get you way more score than action. i dont think this was the dev’s intention but the game make it such.

Space Crisis

Space Crisis

I picked up all 12 of these Nacks Soft games. They are essentially just sprite swaps, so either wait for a 90% sale or pick up the bundle if it’s less than $10 so you are getting the content equivalent of a decently sized full game.

The difficulty curve of this one isn’t as well-designed as Accel Magician Mimi and it’s missing the 1P vs. 2P mode. It’s space-themed though. It’s a very soft recommend – a C-range, middling game.

Pick up if under $1 or if you get all 12 games for under $10.

This is a lovely twin stick shooter with great gameplay, and beautifully redered 8-bit graphics.

My only complaint is the inability to save. I know that the intent is that the game be approached like an old-school arcade title, but the fact that I can’t save my game means that if I ever want to beat the game I’ll have to block out several hours of uninterupted play time, which is rarely feasible for me. As it is, it looks like I’ll be playing the first couple of levels over and over until my kids or some other obligation interupts me.

Enemies take to long to kill but its a fairly nice game. Second to last boss is tricky, last boss is easier.

Red Faction Guerrilla Steam Edition

Red Faction Guerrilla Steam Edition

Red Faction: Guerrilla is a sequel of the underrated first-person shooter Red Faction from 2001, taking place exactly 50 years later after the events of the first game. The original Red Faction had a revolutionary concept - the player could destroy nearly everything - something the developers were sadly not fully able to accomplish. It only had a basic story, but shined in gameplay (in my opinion it was better than Half-Life): we had to battle our way through the ranks of the evil Ultor Corporation that terrorized and experimented on the miners working on Mars, through non-stop combat, including vehicles and the use of environmental destruction.

Steamworks is here, the great tyrant GFWL is dead and gone! A round of applause is in order for Nordic Games for reviving this wonderful game. Now, on with the review.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is an insanely fun game, let’s get that out of the way right now. The open world nature combined with the destructable nature of almost every structure in the game makes for one of the most enjoyable, destructive romps you’ll ever have in a game. While you play through the story mode you’ll have a wealth of options for how to deal with objectives, many of which involve the destruction of key buildings. Perhaps you’d like to get up close and personal with your hammer, maybe you’d rather hop in a truck and send it flying through the side of a building or you might just hail it with rockets from afar, all of which are perfectly viable options.

Mars or Die!

Mars or Die!

Guys please fix the (hit boxes / bounds whatever) for the environment or something why do I have to get stuck on every thing my AI buddy gets stuck on everything. I already can not rotate the camera WTH? This is severely aggrevating please tell me this was not the intended user experience. So far that’s been my experience with this game. I tried this because it had controller support but now I don’t know if that it even makes it justifiable purchase I do not recommend at this time.

In A Nutshell

Mars Or Die in an hybrid between tower defense and survival game. Set in a quite distant future, it tells the tale of two unfortunate explorers, sent on Mars instead of the Moon, by their rather comical dictatorial government, and their struggle to survive extreme conditions and hordes of hostile aliens.

At first, only the Campaign mode is available, featuring nine levels of increasing complexity and lenght, with different objectives each. Once completed, it will unlock and Endless mode to test your strategic skills against unlimited and always more powerful alien hordes. In the first few levels you will control your two characters separately, so either the Sargeant or the Scout, but then once reunited, you will have to manage both at the same time, using their unique abilities to overcome obstacles and stay alive.

Birchian Flight Simulator

Birchian Flight Simulator

This feels more like a ‘proof of concept’ effort than a real game, the kind of demo put together to show that the game mechanics work before investing time in developing a full game. The plane is nicely detailed and I like that the wheels come down automatically when the plane nears the ground. Having a save/load function was a surprise too. Everything else has been done better, much better, elsewhere.

In the campaign mode there are nine very small maps. The plane’s single machine gun can destroy skyscrapers and static blocks very easily and while the explosions look pretty in static screenshots but they fail to impress in the game. There are other aircraft in some levels but the plane’s gun is rubbish at shooting at them - in front of the player’s plane is a targeting reticule but the actual trajectory of the bullets goes much higher so aiming is out of the question.
