Big Pharma

I was worried that Big Pharma could turn out to be either too “casual” (like many cheap “tycoon” clickers), or too messy (like games that pretend to be serious, but just throw a bunch of random events at you at increasing pace - Theme Hospital, I’m looking at you). Luckily, that’s not the case.

There’s far enough depth to raise the game well over the “casual” category. At the same time, its elements are completely transparent, so it doesn’t overwhelm you with complexity. It could rather overwhelm you with opportunities. If you enjoy putting your brain to some work, this is a game a doctor would prescribe.

I would be wary of reviewers that invest 5 hours or less into this game. The Advanced Mode’s machines, along with the Centrifuge from Intermediate, radically increase the ways in which you can manipulate ingredients. It’s also much harder to make and maintain a large profit, especially since competitors play a much greater role in the Advanced Mode. You’ll need to start utilizing some hidden optimization tricks involving things like the packer or crossing belts with machines that have a cycle time greater than 1. So while dead-simple machine placement will get you through the Beginner and some of the Intermediate Scenarios, reaching Master in the Advanced Scenarios requires a lot more thought.

Hospital Manager

Hospital Manager

Very much the spiritual successor to the older “Theme Hospital” game from PlayStation. Hospital Manager is easy to get into as the first four missions are tutorial and explains all the basics you need to get going. It is a light bit of fun and some of the medical conditions are interesting. The first actual mission that you will get a 1-3 star rating out of is Mission 5 ‘Cursed Hospital’. All missions can be passed on first attempt if you are careful though you may not get a good star rating until your refine some techniques. The only mission that gave me significant issue attaining a 3 star rating was mission 11 ‘Fairy Tale’. This mission disallows you to have a negative bank balance which makes investment in treatment rooms more strategic especially with reguard to end of month payments maintaining a positive balance. I had to play it several times to make the end goal of 30,000 credit prior to April 1st. Other missions of note (ones that I will drop you a hint of two about how to pass). Mission 12 has zombies which vomit everywhere but it doesnt matter if the hospital is unclean. Mission 15 ‘Quarenteen’ has an odd wing off to the left, that is the one you want to contain the parasites as you treat and research the condition. Mission 16 ‘Sacred Elephant’ I recommend you pause at the very beginning and rearrange the existing hospital assets to configurations more suited to expediant care delivery. Mission 17 ‘Rural Threat’ in the last month the Exo condition pops up which takes time and money to treat and a 3500 investment in a treatment room. Mission 18 ‘Energy 9000’ (AKA Brawndo) very easy just deal with speed delivery. Mission 19 ‘Seasonal Virus’ The parasites are back so section off part of the hospital to prevent the infected from mingling. Best of luck!

I got this in a bundle a while ago, and finally got around to installing it.

It is an obvious mobile port, with pre-determined room layouts and cartoony drag-and-drop assets.

Gameplay wise, I found many aspects challenging in a bad way. The pacing is too fast (both in terms of new patient arrivals and scenario length), the advisor pop-ups are too frequent, the initial staff stats are based entirely on luck, and a large majority of the décor, research, and room options are unnecessary traps to waste your hospital funds.

Hospital Tycoon

While the story mode is awful and leaves much to be desired, it’s definitely worth starting if you’re a first time player or someone who is returning to this game after a few years. For me, getting to episode two of the first season was enough to get me going in sandbox mode.

EDIT: I need to mention that the garbage cut scenes in the story mode can be skipped with the space bar. Trust me, you’ll want to. It’s really painful to watch.

In sandbox mode, this tycoon becomes one of my favorites. The quirky models, SFX, and customization features really come to life once you’re able to run the hospital how you’d like. As long as you start small and only purchase/build when you absolutely need it, it can be kind of a breeze as well. Again, I’d suggest starting the story mode solely for the tutorial aspect, though. I haven’t seen similar menu systems in use in other games I’ve played and the quick run through in that first episode and a half really helped me pick up where I left off.

It’s as if Theme Hospital and [a paired-down version of] The Sims had a bit of a romance and then this popped out!

Therefore, a lovely little bit of reminiscence [with a twist!] for those of us craving a Theme Hospital fix, with a lil extra cherry on top!

I don’t know if it’s just nostalgia, but I think I do still consider Theme Hospital the better [more polished] of the two [still available on GOG.com I think?]…… but this is a refreshing [yet still pretty retro!] lil take on that previous classic, with some added soap opera drama thrown in!

Great fun game, reminds me of Theme Hospital from when I was younger. Was happy to find out that producers were former Bullfrog team who did make Theme Hospital

Amazing game - great humour!

Some supposedly obvious things don’t work as you’d think (e. g. when it comes to which skills to teach staff), but figuring this particular logic out is half the fun.

Project Hospital

Project Hospital

Overview

Project Hospital is a management simulation in real time with a far more serious twist than Theme Hospital (and it’s spiritual successor Two Point Hospital) where instead of focusing on trying to click on annoying rats and keeping tabs on worn-out machinery that renders irreplaceable rooms unusable while trying to treat people with over-inflated heads and psychiatric patients dressed like Elvis, Project Hospital instead features diagnosing patients with a variety of old fashioned Doctor’s examinations, taking samples for lab analysis, and fancy-schmancy medical examination machines too numerous to list until there’s only one possible (real life) malady that a patient may have. Once diagnosed, a patient can be given treatment for their condition. (Life-threatening conditions requiring emergency care, blood transfusions, and/or antihemorrhagics should be applied before making adiagnosis.) Patients who cannot be treated can be sent to another hospital or lost by waiting too long and giving up. Successful treatment obviously results in money, and expansion ranges from hiring staff for the night watch to expanding the building externally, which means more rooms to use for handling more patients, more staff, and more (as well as a larger variety of) diagnostic and treatment equipment.

Project Hospital is a great game, particularly for players that love deep management and medical genre titles. It holds up even to classic Hospital games like Theme Hospital and the recent revival of that 90s favourite in Two Point Hospital. It’s quite important to say though, that Project Hospital is drastically different in so many ways from any such medical sim game out there. It’s primary focus being immersion, realism and efficiency that offers you a lot more control over the whole process of building, staffing, managing patients.

First i would like to add some quick words to the review,

I had the opportunity to be part of the Beta Test team.

The game has developed itself hugely and its really unique on its own. As a tycoon lover, i loved this game as well because of its concept and i was really happy to contribute to this project. So lets start with quick review format and i shall explain the reasoning behind any check-box.

I really enjoyed playing this game, despite the odd crash here and there (3crashes in 44hours of play).

The one BIG problem with the game is the lack of a sandbox mode. When I saw that the first time I booted the game I considered asking for a refund. I’m glad I didn’t, because I had so much fun playing the scenario, but a sandbox mode is definitely needed to keep me interested in this game long term. Without one it feels like a game with two scenarios to complete before deleting the game and forgetting about it. It’s just a checklist to complete, like the tasks in the game itself: just swap, “Produce 3kg of X ¦ Sell 3kg of X,” for, “Complete scenarios A and B ¦ Delete game.”

CHAT WITH US ON DISCORD

The hospital is one of the most important facilities in the city, and good healthcare is a must-have in the neighborhood. Until now, the building has been empty, it has collapsed piece by piece, and its inhabitants have become, among others, various types of rodents.

Say stop to ruin! Enter the area as a one-man renovation company and create an amazing building that will serve to save lives.

The city has just hired you for this important mission. Do not disappoint the government and residents. Set up a recovery plan and get to work. You will have the appropriate but basic type of equipment at your disposal. By renovating more rooms and completing quests, you will get some money that you can spend on improving tools and speeding up the work. Demolish walls, repair electrical systems, patch elevations, tear off the plaster, put panels and tiles, throw out rubbish, vacuum clean, wash walls, paint, etc.

Plan each floor and room wisely. It is only up to you where the pediatrics, office, operating room, or even a morgue will be located. Plan it carefully and per the standards. Remember about equal and quick access for all patients. Determine the number of rooms and offices. Make a hospital friendly to everyone.

Open completed stages and work on the next ones. If you manage to complete the full renovation of the most important rooms, you will be able to open the area to residents - potential patients. At the same time, nothing prevents him from continuing to work on the next stages. Expand the entire complex inside and around the main building. And when are you done? Maybe you will become a handyman in the already operating dream hospital? It’s probably better than retirement!

Prison Tycoon: Under New Management

Prison Tycoon: Under New Management

Good thinks first:

  • 2 point hospital style is great for this, UI and control is great

  • Actually difficult eco, it is not easy to balance thinks…

Thinks which must be updated:

  • Nobody cares about building cells. Allow copy/paste of buildings (just like 2PH have room classes across games. This is must have). To build one, two is fine, to build 40 is just a waste of time.

  • Cleaning of the rooms is broken. Sometimes items in the room cannot be cleaned for what ever reason (fckng toilet seat cannot be cleaned) and the maintenance guy looses all his stamina on one item. Then he goes to the rest and another one comes in and spend his stamina on the same item. I have to manually move the item - then it is fine. This could be “fixed” using magic trick - maintenance cleans the room as a whole, not per item.

I love these kind of games but there could be improvements such as:

1. It would be good to have workshops that prisoners can learn new skills that will help them get a job after they leave prison. There are therapies available that treat their disorders but Workshops are different and is there so they can learn new things in order to adjust to the society once they go back. Such as cooking classes, learning a new musical instrument, learning foundations of business and finance 101.

Then you will be able to hire professional chefs, musicians, lecturers to come and teach.

Weed Shop 2

Weed Shop 2

Although I was disappointed to find the game was no longer available on the Play Store, I found an APK ;)

Now for Weed Shop 2: Basically the same as the previous generation, PC tuned graphics still aren’t mindblowing, but they’re decent enough and bearable. Updates are still rolling out; I have to say I’m quite impressed by the presentation of such a good game from a solo developer! Keep up the great work kid! Procedurally grown weed is fun to watch; knock out burglars, and vandals, and spice vendors harassing your customers, roll and smoke joints, blunts, bongs. Mingle with people on the beach by walking outside the shop! You can even adopt a cat*!
