18 Wheels of Steel: Hard Truck

18 Wheels of Steel: Hard Truck

The first video game I have ever played at around age 3 or 4. Never understood the objective before the disc broke. A couple months ago I find it here, and the feeling of progressing further than ever before in a game you haven’t played in roughly 14 years is exhilarating.

18 Wheels of Steel: Pedal to the Metal

This is my favorite 18 WOS installment. This game hooked me from day one when I purchased in 2005. This game instilled a love of trucking in my little grade-school self that built me into the real life truck driver that i am today.

Lets go over the good and bad of 18 WOS PTTM.

Pros:

  • The gameplay is fantastic. Picking up loads and delivering them to the correct locations is easy and straight forward. No tutorial required, just go from point A to point B.

  • The progression system in this game is my favorite of all the 18 WOS games. It features income based progression in the beginning, building to a prestige system later on allowing you to unlock more cargo and more highly valued routes.

The game is well worth it full and on discount both, its the favorite from the series, for multiple reasons, though I only had full version of this when I was a child beside the Hard Truck 18 Wheels of Steel

I recommend it to anyone who is into the genre or wants to try the genre out, gives a different experience than ATS and other newer SCS titles, 10/10 for me, fully and wholeheartedly recommanded

For $3, hard to complain much. But game gives you no guidance. You go out on a route, no idea where you are supposed to turn in the city, so you end up wheer you “cant continue here” and you end up late, and it cancels the ride. Real fun! Also cars seem to run into you for no apparent reason. Also no rear view mirror. All in all, lacking quite a bit, even for 3 bux. lol

Okay where to start, I got this in the sale and its not worth £3 and before you think it yes I know thats cheap so why complain, its really glitchy, I completed 4 out of 13 successfully, not because I suck but because every time it would load with a car stuck inside the bus and you cannot move. The only choice you have is to cancel the mission. The road is FAR too small for the bus which makes it hard to turn around the corner which is worsened when you have a bus stop right beside traffic lights and you need to turn right. The game also glitches with the traffic lights if you back end in still in when its amber it fines you and says you have run a red light. Its hard to go faster around the corners right beside the lights due to narrow. I have also had it when I have pulled up at a red light. It says I cut the light but was no where near. Another bad thing is the camera, urk! when you pull up to a stop if flips around so now you see the bus from the side, this is so you can see the passengers go in (will explain glitch on this too) problem is once you have shut the doors the camera spins but not at correct angle. If you move the camera yourself so you can drive off straight it spins again side to side as if the game doesn’t understand you have moved it. Both versions if you leave it or correct it will make you hit property and again be fined. The camera has also got a tendency to flip so you are looking at and angled side and you cannot drive straight and again hit things. Passengers glitch, when they go inside they stand but you can hear a cash kaching noise when they have paid. This sort of indicates that the NPC has now finished it action and you can close the doors. How WRONG! I have killed three people and I’m currently hiding behind my sofa waiting for the po po to break down my door and have me on murder charges. I have even waiting after the noise to see if they move or sit and they do not and still they die (my story I am sticking to it lol). The game seems to have a lot of spacial recognition problems. This tends to fine, break, kill or glitch with stuck car spawns the game, it does the same with the stops, they’re a white border which glows (like a seven shape) you fit in this by lining up you nose with the line. Doesn’t work well, sometimes you will be over or under or miles away. You do know your route, if you press M you will get a map up which has a highlighted green path for you and dots which show your stops the next stop ahead is red. The game is a good concept and I won’t deny I’m a bit let down as I was looking forward to playing this and having some fun but its really ropy for me and the glitch (mostly the car, made me think is it two transformers getting it on the way they are stuck together) drives me crazy. My advice, I’d avoid and look for another version .

Jalopy

Jalopy

Jalopy is already a lot of fun to play in its current stage. It’s a small and simple game, not one you’ll likely play through an entire night’s session (although once I almost did), but one you’ll probably want to come back to again and again for another quick round or two.

There are many cute details that make it different from most other driving and racing games in existence. First of all is, of course, the titular car you’re driving. It’s an old, ramshackle and unreliable car that is quite unpredictable and takes a lot of maintenance. While other games might have you perform chip tuning, adjust your gear ratios or put some embarrassing neon lights on your car, you’re going to be dealing with much more basic stuff here. Hope you’ll make it to the next gas station with that popped tire, adjust the oil-to-fuel ratio for your two-stroke engine, or decide whether you’re going to sell your air filter so you can afford an extra can of gas for the road, just to be sure.

Introduction

Jalopy is a game most car enthusiasts and gamers alike will enjoy, should it be properly finished. The player takes the role of a nephew charged with the task of taking their Uncle on a journey across the fallen USSR in an old ‘restored’ Liaka 601 (Trabant 601), collecting various (sometimes prohibitied) loot found on backroads and highways to keep their car running and their wallets packed to book hotels; and buy upgrades. Jalopy has an interesting and somewhat unique experience to keep players entertained, just a shame its very short and has little replayability; with the added ‘bonus’ of bugs present throughout.

Need for Drive - Open World Multiplayer Racing

Need for Drive - Open World Multiplayer Racing

As the title already suggests, “Need for Drive” is basically “Need for Speed” if you bought “Need for Speed” on Wish and threw in bad grammar for good measure.

Sure, there’s only so much you can expect for paying a buck and it’s mechanically somewhat solid but that’s more a testament to the quality of the store assets the developers threw together and not to the technical proficience of the team (?) behind the game. This becomes bleedingly obvious when it comes to controller support which is fairly broken. The used asset pack offers it out-of-the-box but the devs managed to fumble the input settings to such a degree that barely anything works.

It’s awful, but one thing that makes me confused about this is why are there three games that looks exactly the same, all developed by different developers and self-published? Success Games, Stanislaw dev and CRAZY.DEVS? Something sketchy is going on there.

This game’s actual name is CrashMetal as shown on the game’s depot.

https://steamdb.info/app/1531720/depots/

There’s a mobile game (No longer available on Play Store) that just happens to be called that, except it was developed by Stanislaw which is the same developer name for Crash Metal - Cyberpunk.

7/25/21: EDIT: Money is no longer properly saved and is even deducted after a race, so I couldn’t earn anything after the second car. Going to flip to not recommending unless that’s fixed.

I got this game for $1.09 USD in a bundle. What did I get? A decent port with a lot of fun under the hood, It follows the pattern of a lot of racers. You start off with a basic car and one road. As there’s really no real “race” here, you get points for near misses, combos, distance, etc.

After your first drive or so you should have enough to at least get another road, paint job or both. It takes about half an hour with luck to unlock all of the roads and paint your car and wheels. I say with luck, because this game has a habit of losing your winnings, sometimes thousands of dollars worth.

TL;DR: If you just want to goof around driving a truck, this is your title.

I got this title in a bundle for .27 USD. And for a port that wasn’t fully ported? Not bad. Full disclosure: I’m not hauling anything, just driving my truck down the highway, listening to the tires hum. Sometimes stopping to get gas, eat or sleep. Is it a broken title? I dunno, though I did manage to drive off the map.

I then drove my truck boat in the sea until I ended up free falling forever. It was kinda pretty. I then used teleport to go to Quebec and all was well. If you’re looking to just drive on roads, it’s great. Keep in mind it didn’t fully port so mouse not only looks around but is also used to reverse or hit the icons.

Mountain Taxi Driver

Honestly, I bought this game for $0.50 expecting a garbage game which I could laugh at for about 5 minutes then never play again, but I was very surprised when I actually started playing it. This has been the only game which has accurately showed the experience of a real Mountain taxi driver. The game does not need an intro, and just sets you straight into the action. The first thing you will notice once you start the first level, is the hyperrealistic graphics. I had no idea my 480p monitor could rival the graphics of the real world. This game has realistic driving, realistic obstacles, and realistic pay for a real world mountain taxi driver. I would highly recommend this game for fans of the GTA series, Beamng, The crew, any other racing game on steam, fans of driving, or real mountain taxi drivers.

Tourist Bus Simulator

Tourist Bus Simulator

After spending a whole weekend playing it, I will say as a coach management simulator it seems to be pretty good however as a driving simulator it seems to lack somewhat.

Firstly there is the Land Rover lookalike you use to travel the map when you aren’t using your coach… it’s driving dynamics are very poor, let go of the accelerator and the car almost stops, meaning I spend most of the time with my foot slightly on the accelerator to get it to cruise properly, or chuck it in neutral if I’m coasting. The gearbox just causes too much drag and alot of time takes too long to change gear causing it to lose speed, if you can’t do a SUV gearbox right, just do without it and make it a single geared electric drivetrain. God it’s frustrating to drive.

Awful game. It’s a shame I wasted $30 on this, but I know for sure that I’ll never buy another TML-Studios product again. I used to play Bus Simulator 2012, but quickly got tired of the bugs and awful performance, and uninspired gameplay. Well, sadly, the same issues persist with this game. I bought an SSD just for this game to run better, but even on the lowest settings, there is still lag. I’ve got a GTX 1080, 16GB of Ram, and a 4.0 Ghz Intel processor, which handles other games like a dream - and they look much better graphically. Some YouTubers said the graphics are good in this game, and I disagree completely. They aren’t awful, but they’re certainly nothing to write home about.

WRC 10 FIA World Rally Championship

My rating: 79 / 100.

(+) All season 2021 crews, rallies + bonus / history cars;

(+) Once more game has the greatest stages in all-time history;

(+) An extensive WRC carrier mode (improved a little since WRC9);

(+) New multiple modes to play (single & multiplayer);

(–) Driving model is somehow improved, but cars feel too light;

(–) Graphics haven’t been too much upgraded, poor lightning;

(–) Car crashing isn’t very realistic, like empty boxes.

  • FFB - Dramatically poor

  • Physics perhaps better than previous versions of the WRC

  • Sound - engine sound is not good
