ASMR Journey - Animated Jigsaw Puzzle

ASMR Journey - Animated Jigsaw Puzzle

I don’t usually write reviews for games, but there’s so little written about this one that I feel it’s my duty.

TL;DR: The game has issues, but it’s totally worth the very small price.

Let’s start with the good:

I’ve played loads of puzzle games, and this one is particularly beautiful.

Parts of the pictures move, even when the puzzles are in pieces. It really adds something to a jigsaw puzzle game that takes it up a notch. For example, on the train puzzle, there is a foggy window where you can see the blurry landscape pass by.

ASMR Journey is a very well-crafted and inspiring puzzle game, it is calm, immersive, has a good soundtrack and the graphics have a unique and discrepant trace of everything I have seen, it is calm in the exact and interesting point with the hostory that holds you as you play, I found it completely relaxing and well-crafted.

The only negative point found was the lack of more puzzles to complete, as I would like to play more and more, but in any case it already yields a calm and comforting experience.

Blade and Ham

Blade and Ham

There is a lot to like about this but the combat needs some work. Often when doing combos the character will go through the enemies making the combo miss. Weird hit detection. I guess that is why it is early access. There is a nice overworld map with some extra levels you can take on to get coins used to continue. Decent graphics and a good variety of characters. Hopefully the developer fixes the combat issues. I probably will not play anymore until it gets some patches.

The game has nice graphics, but in its current state, I strongly don’t recommend Blade and Ham. The game is NOT ready for release to the public. Blade and Ham has several big bugs & is very unpolished.

The game’s bugs are its biggest flaw. For example, you can’t save your progress (you start over at every new game). Plus, can’t take any pictures (doing so causes an error, the game ends, & you can’t exit the game either).

On a side note, Valve, please stop distributing crappy games that lack basic features. Such behavior just makes people want to go buy their games elsewhere, such as Epic Games. I wouldn’t even play Blade and Ham for free in its current state.

You can view my puking here: https://youtu.be/RLKc9RHl0bQ

So the best part about this game, and the reason why it may be worth a free download, is because you can give everyone a facial. No, get your mind out of the gutter. I’m talking about puke. You can puke on everyone and everything. You can aim for the head, body, feet, grass, whatever you’re into. Puke as much as you want. Eat some cotton candy.

You can also ride the ferris wheel for free. And a train. Walk around the park, puking and demo-ing the other rides. The demos take about 10-40 seconds. If you actually want to experience the full rides, each and everyone one of them, you’ll have to pony up $34.94 USD. LOL, yeah, I’m not kidding. Everything I have said so far is true about this game.

Pretty disappointing. I love amusement parks so I was hoping this would be interesting but there are a ton of problems that need fixing before anyone should be expected to pay money for this.

  1. The game runs very poorly on my i7-9700k and RTX 2080S and nothing should run poorly on this computer. (Edit 8/30 - As of the latest patch, performance is greatly improved but still not perfect. Every 3 seconds like clockwork the game hitches slightly as if a process is updating that really isn’t optimized well enough. All of the below feedback also still applies.)

Caveats:

  • The game is buggy and glitches. A LOT! And the devs will not (be able to) fix it.

  • The game is short. I have no idea how you can spend 45 minutes in a playthrough as stated on the store page. Realistically it will take you around 30 for your first run with failing a lot of jumps and not knowing where to go. Subsequent runs should scratch on the speed run goal time of 15 minutes.

  • You can get Mirror’s Edge and its sequel on sale for the full price of this game. (At least in Euro.)

That being said, I still recommend it. The developers were pretty upfront about the state of the game, its shortcomings and their lack of support. It’s a student project by graduates. Would have been nice if they released it for free, sure, but the price is cheap enough to forgive the lack of polish and content, especially on sale.

This game has a lot of pros and cons, but I still recommend at least on sale. But even at full price, it’s cheap, and has replay value, especially when the cons get addressed.

Pros:

  • FANTASTIC visuals and art design!

  • Fun gameplay design, that allows opportunities to mix things up if you want to.

  • Many routes, for high replay value, and to challenge yourself with the fastest shortcuts.

Cons:

  • MANY moments of bugs with clipping, getting stuck, and inputs not working very well.

  • VERY abrupt and unclear ending, though it was expected for a student project with a time limit.

DreamScapes Dimensions

DreamScapes Dimensions

Let me begin this by saying that how you feel about DreamScapes will, to a great degree depend on what you believe, or expect, a Steam Early Access MMO from an indi developer is going to be.

I downloaded the game last night and, like other players, I had to wait for a long loading time. However, I can tell you that it only took that long the first time.

Once in I encountered lag, freezing as you go through doors, and other bugs. In truth I could have done what many of the other reviewers chose to do, log off, delete the game and move on.

Real player with 365.4 hrs in game

DreamScapes Dimensions is not a strikingly beautiful game with the best graphics.

It is not a game with the best optimization and it is not a game with thousands of quests or a game world so big that you can spend hours walking from one side to the other.

And it doesn’t have to be all that. Because it is full of passion.

The game utilizes a DND style dice roll fighting system, in-depth resource mining and crafting, player building and housing, as well as procedurally generated dungeons and raids which add a nice rouge-like feel to it.
