Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim’s Hook Collector’s Edition

Small Town Terrors: Pilgrim’s Hook Collector’s Edition

This is a mid-tier HOG, but I can’t recommend it due to the sheer number of technical issues I had while playing:

  • More than 25 instances of the game temporarily freezing or showing a blank white screen while the audio looped like a broken record

  • 2 game crashes, one of which was caused by trying to alt+tab while in fullscreen mode

  • 5 forced shutdowns of the entire computer due to the game locking the machine

I’m running a 2016 high-end gaming computer with Windows 10, and the issues persisted even after double-checking all software and drivers were up-to-date. While I eventually completed the game with full achievements, the constant bugs made it a long and frustrating endeavor.

This was honestly one of the worst HOG/Point and Clickss I’ve played in quite a long time, and they are kind of an obsession of mine so consider that I do play quite a few. I pushed myself to finish it, and honestly am not sure why I did.

The Artwork really wasn’t that bad, with some good blending of key objects into the background. However, that does lead into the main problem I had with this: The key objects were not logical.

I really want to rename this game: Inexplicable Reasons: The Hidden Object Game. Hear me out. The key objects, which for those who’ve never played such a game are objects that you use to solve puzzles in the point and click part of the game (i.e. the part that isn’t one of the hidden object scenes), are completely illogical. Spoiler warning, I suppose, but at one point you

! use a gold brick to break open the glass on a fire extinguisher case. Because that’s the first thing someone thinks of when they pick up a

! gold brick. This isn’t a case of me finding just one of the objects laughable. It happened over and over again throughout the entire game. Things that you didn’t need tools to remove suddenly needed tools to put back into place. Other items that most certainly would need a tool came free without any work. In one puzzle you placed three photos into a picture frame to complete it, rearranged said photos, and suddenly behind one of the photos was a slip of paper! Was it not there while you were rearranging? Why does one need 6 photos to remove one, from a non-magical frame, and find something? The world may never know.

Stormhill Mystery: Family Shadows

Stormhill Mystery: Family Shadows

FYI: I got this game for free and played the developer’s edition of this game but that shall not influence my opinion on this game.

At first I thought this would be a hidden object adventure but der there isn' t a single classic hidden objects scene. The only “hidden” objects are morphing objects in almost every scene. You still gather items to use as you do in hidden object oder point & click adventures. Also, there are some interesting mini games.

It’s nice to see that the protagonist doesn’t throw away every item after a single use but that he keeps some for later. That’s quite refreshing since you could ALWAYS have a crowbar in these kind of games!

The game is worth the full price nevermind about random sales. Worthy purchase for 2D point&click games fans.

As you see from Store Page screens, the game takes place in a mansion. You know the myths that are surrounding old, dilapidated mansions? This game takes the gist from there with an enough level of plot (NOT like a cringey B-movie you stumble upon) and continue with various hidden-objects & puzzles. The important thing in here is that ALL those hardships inside the game to continue to story takes place as it would happen in REAL life. I mean, even those supernatural things exist in a realistic manner. The whole game is designed and written as if the story is real as well as the Mansion itself. The tasks you have to complete in game is kind of stuff that you expect to do if you REALLY had been there.

The Room 4: Old Sins

The Room 4: Old Sins

You like puzzle games ? you like dark atmosphere in Lovecraft style (but you are not looking for jumpscares) ? Then this is a no brainer.

I played and loved all “The Room” series, this one is not an exception. Usually, when a movie has a number after its title, it means “crappy thing in order to milk the franchise to the end”. For The Room serie, it’s the opposite: more ideas, more eye candy, more of these puzzles we love.

By the way, puzzles are original, almost never stupid things in the rubik’s cube spirit. It almost always about observing and associating things.

I’ve been playing the Room games since they were mobile games.

I’ve bought and each and every game on android and now on steam and finished them all twice to completion on each platform.

That’s how good their games are. Room 4 is just a culmination of their experience over the years. Fireproof are at the top of their craft in the genre, Da Vinci games are close but still lack a bit of the spart.

I would recommend this to anyone remotely interested in puzzle box type of games.

600Seconds ~The Deep Church~

600Seconds ~The Deep Church~

More than any other, I think the word “odd” describes 600Seconds the best. More compelling than the sum of its parts, 600Seconds combines exploration with a fairly short and straightforward third person shooter adventure through a church. Exploring the empty church in the waking world for items for ten minutes before your siege in the nightmare seemed, at first, an unnecessary and kind of obnoxious feature (ten minutes is a long time!) though it does help set a certain kind of mood, but after dying in the nightmare once or twice the interest was made more clear to me.

First and foremost, I think it’s best to remember that this is StudioGekko’s first title. So know going in that it’s not very complex, not very long, and may be prone to jankyness. All that in mind, I still had plenty of fun with the game.

Item placements are not random, so learning the layout of the church and location of everything was really fun. I like that there’s no text or story to read and that I can just make my own assumptions about what’s happening, though maybe a little more to see would’ve been nice. After my first couple of unsuccessful runs, I thought I was done with the game but I found myself coming back to it the next few days to learn more and give it another shot.

Lost Remnant: The End Tides

Lost Remnant: The End Tides

So far I’m very much enjoying the game. It’s a point and click, story heavy game.

You have been left an inheritance by your grandfather, his cabin, now yours. Through found letters you find that your grandfather wants you to leave the town, though by what means you’ll have to play to find out. You start by collecting roaches to use as fishing bait and from there you can start to craft and sell items in order to make the money needed to do as your grandfather wished.

Real player with 7.6 hrs in game

I thoroughly enjoyed this game it was not what I was expecting when I read mysterious point and click with eldritch horrors. The game is basically a resource management gathering game with some point and click aspects but not many which is nice cause instead of looking for one hidden object or how to use an object for hours your steadily progressing towards your goal. Game was really enjoyable with messages constantly to break up the grind with plot or story there’s not much visible eldritch creatures but there’s ton of mention of them. my full 100% play through with all letters and endings here (once it finishes processing): https://youtu.be/B8UwzltTPnc I had to replaythrough the game since eldritch horrors ate half the video but just a heads up the game says you get 2 redwood logs a tree but you only get one not

The Room Two

The Room Two

Basic Information

Title: The Room Two

Status: Released

Developer: Fireproof Games

Publisher: Fireproof Games

Genre: 3D Puzzle

Release Date: 5th of July, 2016

Type: Singleplayer

General Impression

As its title suggests, the game I’m reviewing today is the direct sequel to 2014’s sleeper hit, The Room. I’m referring of course, to the PC port since developer Fireproof Games launched this series on mobile platforms first. Thus, The Room Two could have been thoroughly enjoyed on Android and iOS terminal, during the same time frame in which The Room PC port began to amaze its (unsuspecting) players. Why would at least some of them not suspect the high production value and sheer entertainment/brain tease that The Room offers on PC? Well, I’m certainly not the only gamer who doesn’t take mobile gaming very seriously. Yet Fireproof is a clear example of a serious developer, realeasing an equally significant franchise of 3D puzzles. A trilogy in fact, once The Room Three shall make its way on the platform that truly deserves it.

The Room Two

…is a brain-teaser puzzle game. Having solved the mysterious puzzle box in your friend’s attic, you are transported through a doorway where your only way back is to solve puzzle rooms from different places and times.

⚙ Game Description & Mechanics ⚙

You start each room facing a wooden box or model with various buttons, slots and keyholes. As you unlock parts, small compartments will open and give you handles, keys and tools to further unlock the box or other furniture and items surrounding it. Special goggles allow to see “what lies beyond”, such as hidden written messages or movable objects.
