Kult of Ktulu: Olympic
This is a really great game… At first I was little offset, but now I have finished one ending (a bad one no doubt) and I was thrilled till the end… actually so thrilled that I hope to reach the other ending somehow… Highly recommendable!

Awesome interactive lovecraftian story based on decision making with several endings and a lot of thought about mysticism or rather occultism.
Without spoilers - a truely beautifully written adventure evoking “Call of Cthulhu” settings with all its hints, twists, used sujets (if you recognize them), but without RPG elements. Instead, you can go back in time and reconsider every decision. Making notes (page number for interesting desicion) were useful to me, but unnecessary and for most people probably exaggerated.

600Seconds ~The Deep Church~
More than any other, I think the word “odd” describes 600Seconds the best. More compelling than the sum of its parts, 600Seconds combines exploration with a fairly short and straightforward third person shooter adventure through a church. Exploring the empty church in the waking world for items for ten minutes before your siege in the nightmare seemed, at first, an unnecessary and kind of obnoxious feature (ten minutes is a long time!) though it does help set a certain kind of mood, but after dying in the nightmare once or twice the interest was made more clear to me.

First and foremost, I think it’s best to remember that this is StudioGekko’s first title. So know going in that it’s not very complex, not very long, and may be prone to jankyness. All that in mind, I still had plenty of fun with the game.
Item placements are not random, so learning the layout of the church and location of everything was really fun. I like that there’s no text or story to read and that I can just make my own assumptions about what’s happening, though maybe a little more to see would’ve been nice. After my first couple of unsuccessful runs, I thought I was done with the game but I found myself coming back to it the next few days to learn more and give it another shot.

Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness
Edit: I have isolated the files containing the missing cutscenes, from when you complete the puzzle to “waking up in a room with edgar” they are contained at the end of my playthrough here: http://youtu.be/zYzzKiaMocU?t=31m (it will already skip to where the cutscene is in the video, you don’t have to go through the playthrough to find it)

I am sad to be writing a negative review for this game, but first I will give it the praise that it is due.
It is a very enjoyable game to play, classic point-and-click with a wonderfully creepy atmosphere. The puzzles are challenging, and interesting. It is a great hommage to the style of lovecraft stories, and very enjoyable to play. It is certainly worth playing, and I’m glad that I have done so. I do think it’s important to note this.

First thing to do if you have any desire to play this game is to download the .exe file from the link below that fixes the missing cutsecene and the game breaking bug of not being able to access your inventory items.

All set? Great, now we can talk about the game itself.
William H. Stanton, aka you, find yourself face to face with an old childhood friend Edgar, who seems very scared and gives you an item to take care of and keep away from him under any circumstances. Right after him, a doctor barges in to tell you that Edgar has gone mad and needs to report to him for a medical care. And of course, being the great friend he is, Willy goes on the quest of saving his friend from whatever madness he descended into.

Divine Favor
Spooky, cause like i’m afraid of literally every bug that ever existed.
I don’t understand why the first like hour was just black though.
The game seemed long at the start but faster when things started going.
I don’t know if this is going to get updates or more story but overall pretty spooky man.
The story is pretty good and the art is too.
For what is I don’t feel that it would be worth $1 as the story is kinda short.
But if you like this sorta spooky text story then I definitely recommend, but this game just ain’t my cup of tea.

In hindsight, I should have known this, but there is absolutely zero gameplay. However, it is a very interesting story which is thoroughly enhanced by the sound effects. It does what it does well, but it really doesn’t do much. A little bit overpriced even with the low price of .99.

Elder Sign: Omens
Awesome game, very addictive, loved it very much. There is a bit of a learning curve, so to help new people out, here are some basic rules / info about the game:
It’s no lie. The RNG will hate you 80% of the time, but then you will have that one golden run which makes up for it.
Pay attention to the unique stats and abilities of your investigators and make sure you are using the most appropriate investigator for the adventure / challenges you are taking on.

For $15 this game find itself in a hard spot between those adventurous enough to spend some disposable cash to try new things and those who want a guaranteed good game. If this game ever goes on sale for $10 or less, I think that many people would be satisfied.
This game is essentially a solo-player board game. You can play it with friends, but being huddled around a computer isn’t exactly the most satisfying experience for playing a board game. So play it solo or at most with one partner. If you want to play with four people, buy the board game. Now it may sound rather unappealing having only one player control all of the characters, however this allows that single player to develop strategies that some parties would not be able to come across easily.

Tentacult!
This game got really old, really quick. It has great potential but is unploished. The HUD looks like a screenshot from word and there are only nine levels. I’m pretty sure there are only four tracks in the whole game, but I never finished it (due to the gameplay being boring). I would not at all recoment this game. (If they make a new one, one that has more levels, might be a good investment) I would love to see you getting to keep all of your minions, and take down bigger things, such as giant mecha robots. I would love to see this after another year of development and more funding.

I so wanted to give this game a positive review or would of settled for a neutral option but the bugs are a game breaker for me. The game starts off so well & is indeed both fun & funny but the difficulty ramps up very quickly & the bugs start to bite harder as you progess.
My first problem was the game would not return to the start if you selected the option screen, in fact it locked up completely meaning task manager required to get out, it does not do this every time therefore I did manage to actually play.

The Miskatonic
Make multiple save files! Mine corrupted somehow, no idea how, and it was right before the end and I had to reclick through about 45 mins of reading. Annoying.
Game was longer than expected, which was good. A good deal on sale. Had been looking at this game for a while, but I heard it was short….and 5 bucks for short wasn’t really buyable imo. So I waited for sale, and it finally did and I’m glad I bought it.
Game is very incomplete though. Art is great, story is great and rich and lorie. Only has 3-4 music tracks. Is linear phonetic visual novel with a weird pseudo exploration kinda mode? but actually not explorable its deciding whether to talk to people along the way or not and the talks have no bearing on the story, its just lore. I mean you’ll be doing the talks tho cause its fun so that’s fine. The world is very interesting.

So, I’ve completed the game in 4-5 hours, and given the fact that it’s a linear story, with only window for replayability being the fact that you might missed some of the dialogues (yes, that can happen).
The game is as described: Point and click based visual novel, set in a post-apocalyptic(?) lovecraftian world, which is fine, the fans wil like it, especially the goofy take, and the matching art-style, and the story is also acceptable, though it wasn’t enough.
My problems with this “game” are the following:

The Whisperer in Darkness
I’ve been a fan of the works of H.P. Lovecraft for many years, and this game is a worthy tribute to the eponymic short story. The developer has very handily captured the tense atmosphere and sense of dread that are the hallmarks of Lovecrafts' works.
It’s worth mentioning that this product is much more of a visual novel than a game. You are essentally scrolling through a modernized version of the original story with the accompaniment of a creepy sound track and artwork.
I recommend this game for any fan of classic horror fiction, and of course it’s a “must own” for Lovecraft fans.

Prompting feelings of good old Penumbra. Both vague and obscure in art and substance - very fitting to H.P. Lovecraft.
While this is clearly a work of some relatively unexperienced people it is nontheless a considerable interpretation of one of my most favorite stories of H.P. Lovecraft. These people did both understood the special kind of horror which Lovecraft inflicts and are aware of the delicate problem of approaching a Lovecraft tale with modern technology (read: non paper-only).
Yes, it is clearly imperfect and some things are not fitting so good. A lovecraftian spirit must break with ideas like absolute ideal conception, senses flattering or aesthetics that fit the human eye. If you are fancy these things go play some insignificant repetitive triple A first person shooter and save the world.

Fhtagn! - Tales of the Creeping Madness
My group of friends and I have been searching for a game to match “The Yawhg” for a couple years now, and the day of prophecy has come. I cannot recommend this game enough, as it became an instant classic for us. It’s fun to play solo, but the meat of the game is playing with 1-3 others. The core loop is simple to pick up, but difficult to master: pick a location, pick one of two known actions to gain stats, a random event (based on your location) happens which you need to resolve, then you pass or fail said event and move to the next turn. Failure is not punished so much as laughed at and, occasionally, rewarded.

Fun game! A bit hard to grasp at the beginning. I didn’t really like the offered tutorial. I prefer tutorials that unfold while playing. Furthermore it would be great, if the controller support was better. I was amazed as I used a mouse the first time and was able to get tooltips for the different stats.
Using a controller we figured it out by guessing. :)
Sadly this game isn’t much known, so there aren’t many mods written (although the ones that are out are hilarious and fun to play!)
Can’t wait for the update. We played with 3-4 players for 2 days and got most of the achievements (first time I was compelled to do that). But getting the same stories over and over makes it boring over time.

The Land of Crows
One of the best portrayals of Cthulhu Mythos and Poe out there. Definitely a perfect lovecraftian game in my opinion. The game offers an amazing atmosphere of a desperate land full of polish culture. In fact, one can learn so much from playing this game. Inspirations are very promising and the game provides everything it claims. A really well-written and grim interactive book to read, so to speak.
The somber tale of a very romantic and “curious” polish nobleman filled with a lot of suffering and sorrow for melancholy fans. The most underrated game, I would say.
– Real player with 10.1 hrs in game
An interesting adventure game that’s filled with Polish history, strange entities and ghosts, but there are a few areas that could be improved upon.
Intro
The Land of Crows is an indie side-scrolling horror adventure game that’s heavily inspired by gothic writer’s of old, such as Edgar Allen Poe and Goete. It was also inspired by classic thriller adventure games of the 90’s, which is why it utilizes an old school art style. When I first discovered the game it immediately reminded me think of games like Downfall or The Cat Lady due to its art style but this is a very different entity in its own right. Do read on to see what I thought of the game.
