I really enjoyed this game. I would recommend it to anyone that likes the challenge of overcoming an obstacle… anyone that is a fan of the dark souls games would have fun with this one.

At 5 dollars it is at least worth the try for the music alone.

Deathstate: Abyssal Edition

Deathstate: Abyssal Edition

Deathstate is what you get when you take Binding of Isaac, add some “bullet hell” mechanics, and put it in a colorful 16-bit H.P. Lovecraft universe. It’s a relatively simple game: Steer one of a growing cast of unlockable characters through a series of procedurally-generated worlds, gobbling up unlockable guts–monstrous hearts, eyes, brains, lungs, etc.–and equipping arcane tools that modify your stats and offensive capabilities.

And I quite literally mean “steer”: As a single stick shooter, you don’t have direct control over when or where you shoot. Instead, your character automatically targets and shoots enemies when they come into range, leaving you to focus entirely on movement and dodging. This unusual choice may turn off some players because it sounds like a dumbed-down twin stick shooter. It doesn’t help that the first map (called a “layer”) is frequently pretty easy, leaving many to assume you can simply sleepwalk through the game while your character does all the work.

Do you want a game which can fill up your time with good content and challenge? Do you like to mix element from danmaku (bullet curtain) and rogue-like? Then you have your game : Deathstate.

This review has been made after clearing the full game at version 1.13, which means 100% achievement and the hardest possible run.

For which player ?

Thanks to a scaled difficulty the game can be played by both novice to danmaku and experts. However, as it is now this can has some flashy effect that may pose a problem for color-blind people along with those having photo-sensibility.

Sacrifice Your Friends

Basically, this is the mechanics of overcooked mixed with the gameplay ideas of Gang Beasts. It super fun to dash around use and throw the weapons, some weapons are a little more useful than others, but they are all counterable. It controls well. A bunch of cool little stuff to unlock, like hats and characters, a bunch of different powerful gods to play, all with different gameplay styles. A whole bunch of beautifully designed maps/artwork, and a whole bunch of other stuff to explore. A great and simple versus game that is definitely worth picking up.

This is an amazingly fun item-arena brawler. The closest games I would compare it to are the Bomberman series and Killer Queen Black.

Your character avatar has no impact on your move set, which consists of punching, grabbing/activating an item, and throwing an item. Your associated Ancient One cult (Cthulhu, Dagon, and Nyarlathotep right now) does have a slightly altered move set, which are fitting for the time-limited avatar transformations (similar to a Smash Bros. Smash Ball). The game moves at such a frantic, hilariously fast and fun pace that it doesn’t need more than this.

Retexo Mori

Retexo Mori

“Above all, we hold this to be irrefutable: Death is the only True Evil. Retexo Mori.”

  • Daily Prayer of the Unyielding

Retexo Mori is a Pac-Man-like game in first person, with bullet hell elements and an aesthetic that clashes early 90’s FPS pixel-art with vaporwave. It features short, high-intensity rounds inside carefully crafted arenas where you must navigate, avoid, and outwit Shadows that pursue you relentlessly. It is easy to understand, but difficult to master: while the enemies behave predictably, in tandem they can easily box you in if you don’t think far enough ahead.

This is the same game as “Escape From Voyna: Tactical FPS Survival” listed under the Developer “Dead Crow”

I’m not sure what is going on here. Both games are absolutely terrible. Skip completely.

Love this game. Does a great job of easing you into a chaotic bullet hell. The music makes it feel that much more intense which puts a unique and needed flare to the genre. Challenging, but rewarding!

Remove the achievement for 200 levels of dungeon crawling, no one wants to do that… if anyone has or bothers to in the future, I feel really bad for them. I will not be bothering. The ridiculously long wait time, while the game is running, after level 160+ is criminal, especially after having sunk a straight week and half of vigilant attention. I see no reason to trade off from ore gains, etc, to forge bonuses, I tried on one ascension to bother with forge upgrades and it was mega-depressing. remove these stupid unit items that do nothing, like EVERY MAGIC UNIT ITEM… Do you want to upgrade the bonuses granted by use of the staves, wands, books power/patience/whatever? NO! I DO NOT! I WANT TO GET TO LEVEL 170, THANK YOU! I want to be DONE already, thank you! Sitting around the Octillion-Nonillion ranges, 165+ Level, all Units sitting between 300 highest to 110 Lowest (‘Shapes of Damage - Units’ the last five possible units, all over 100, with tems, etc…) Do something to fix this and I will change my review.

Devil Daggers

Devil Daggers

This game is pretty much my favourite game ever (regardless of whether I’ll be playing it 2 years from now).

TL;DR

  • Just try it. There’s more to it than you probably think… and it’s only like 4 quid.

Devil Daggers (DD) seems like a pretty simple arcade shooter on the surface, and that’s what it’ll be to you for your first few hours of playing this thing. But if you stick with it long enough, you’ll start to see a little depth to it, especially if you pay attention to the replays of higher players on the leaderboard.

Real player with 2160.8 hrs in game

Devil Daggers is hellish, and that’s the highest regard I can give it.

Cliche ridden elevator pitch: Stay alive for as long as you possibly can while fighting off baddies from beyond in a dim, dark, purgatorial arena, with nothing but your rapid-fire daggers and wits. Harkening back to late 90’s games such as Quake, the movement system is extremely satisfying. Of course, you have standard movement with WASD and your mouselook, but once you get the general hang of the game, you can introduce bunny-hopping and dagger jumping into your repetoire. These systems reward you with speed and manueverability that can turn average, ‘nothing special’ runs into challenges to the world’s top players. While not as snappy as one might like, its movement system just feels right at home here, and is immensely satisfying.
