Bakery

Bakery

Bakery is a cute management simulation with a cute if not a little unrefined art style that I really want to love, but there’s several things that get in the way of me being able to recommend this game to other people. I don’t want to seem like I’m trying to pick this game apart but I want to give my honest feedback on what I think could be improved, should the developer decide to continue developing on this game.

In the state it’s currently in I cannot recommend this game to English Speaking players. The English translation is very difficult, if impossible, to understand at times. That being said, from what I can piece together, the story is very engaging and I find myself wish I spoke the original language this game was written in so that I could actually understand it better. The translation also leads to some confusion as to what exactly recipes are supposed to be and even some confusion on what the employees are (I believe the Accountant could possibly be considered a Cashier in English for example)

I played this game when it just came out, which is 17 yrs ago. It was the first game i own ever. I had so much memories about this game that I cant even put in words how I feel when I found out it’s on steam. Nothing has changed about this game which some people may not like since simulation games have evolved so much, but for players like me it is just perfect how imperfect it is 3 It’s a vintage worth colleting if you are like me.

Ephemera

Ephemera

This game is shaping up to be a joy to play, a rare treat in the midst of Battle-Royale and FPS games of our time. The simplicity mixed with other elements makes for a fun and in-depth journey for a text based game.

On another note, as a personal childhood friend of the developer, I can safely say that they are passionate about this game and will not leave it unfinished - Their drive to complete said game, and also revamp other, already completed areas is unparalleled. I wholeheartedly recommend trying out this game.

Review Date: Nov 20, 2021

I wrote a giant review, and then after reading through it, realized my opinion was more like no than yes, and when I changed it, Steam erased everything I had written. So, rather than do it again, I’ll just drop some bullet points. I’ve been playing since early in Early Access, so that will color my review.

New overworld trade system is terrible. It’s boring. It’s grindy. and it doesn’t work. I’m at max rep with a faction, and have yet to see the “subversion” mission mentioned in the tutorial.

A decent time killer as-is, but released far too soon for the ambition they sought to achieve.

  • Settlement milestones are sparse and largely uninteresting, with few “make your own goals” opportunities to fill in the blanks. You will pretty much always build the same structures in the same order, and most structures are not actually all that useful.

  • Overworld is shallow and brainless, with pawns moving around for the sake of moving. Factions have no personality or storyline aspects, and the “war” has nothing to make it compelling or interactive. This is actually a bit of a downgrade from the initial concept at the start of Early Access, where there was at least a good vs. evil kind of thing going on.

Karma City Police

Karma City Police

After playing all the content available in Early Access twice, I asked myself if I should do an analysis on the available content and if I should recommend the game to others and the answer is absolutely yes!

The pixelart of Karma City Police is very beautiful and crafted. Impressive how only a developer can deliver a competent job.

I really enjoyed the two main aspects of the game: resource management, where you must make your decisions wisely to take care of the population of Karma City, and the pinball mechanics in the clashes that makes a perfect contrast to what was presented previously, moments of more action.

Shaping up to be a really good game. Only took me about 15 minutes to complete (I forgot to exit, hence the hour and a half playtime). I enjoyed my time though, the premise of mixing a pinball battle system with the 911 operator role is an innovative one and I think will be really cool once it’s more fleshed out. A “shake” feature would be nice during battle, with maybe a tilt feature too so you don’t abuse it too much to hit your target. Some of the text overflows from the boxes, and there are some grammatical/spelling errors (off the top of my head “you loose” comes to mind). Native gamepad support would be great too, or at least the ability to remap the controls. I played using JoyToKey though and it worked fine. I enjoyed both aspects of the game, so really my only complaint is that it’s too short! Hope to see this updated soon.

Aberration Analyst

Aberration Analyst

You are an analyst in a very secretive, underground organization. Scour tabloid headlines, police reports and other sources in order to locate supernatural threats to the safety and sanity of your fellow citizens.

Players have various tools at their disposal in order to achieve their goal.

Tabloids are a great place to start looking for information about monster sightings and attacks. Unfortunately, the tabloids also have two major weaknesses. First, they are almost totally unreliable, and should not be trusted by themselves. Second, their availability is limited, only ten headlines are released per day. Still, they make a good place to start identifying possible monster activity.

More reliable than tabloids, reports come in two varieties, Police and Coroner. Reports are available for each city, but will cost money to access. They provide factual information, but will not mention monsters or anything that might threaten the reporter’s credibility.

Selecting your team is an important step in the process of monster research. Make sure you try to identify the type of monster you are going after, otherwise your team may not be properly prepared.

Lore is collected as a player progresses through the game. Each attempt to take down a monster will result in small, but helpful hints that will make it easier to identify possible monster activity.
