Anchor Up

Anchor Up

Anchor Up is a calming strategy puzzle game about out-manoeuvring your opponent’s ships by careful navigation and weapon placement. The weapons you choose, and where you place them on your boat are all part of the puzzle.

To complete each puzzle, you must sink the enemies' ships whilst avoiding the same fate for yours. Can you outsmart your foes? Can you escape the grasp of the Azarak forces?

What to Expect

-40 hand-crafted puzzles with diverse modes

-10 unique weapons to unlock

-New puzzle and movement mechanics introduced throughout the experience

-Multiple locations with varying weather and visuals

How to Play

During your turn you can either move your ship or you can use one of your weapons. The enemy ships (AI) will all then take their turn with the same two options. In the next phase, if any weapons were used by the player or the enemy in the previous phases they will be triggered/updated, for example cannon balls moving or lasers firing. Where you place your weapons is also important, so you can correctly align your weapon with an enemy! These core gameplay mechanics are then built upon with new environmental objects, varying enemies/weapons and much more in order to add layers of complexity towards the end levels!

The movement in Anchor Up is a key part of the puzzle: your ship takes up two tiles, the front of your ship and the back of your ship. This means that thinking ahead is key to victory. When moving tiles, your boat rotates to face the direction you just moved, careful manoeuvring and navigation is vital! If you get a hit by a weapon or an enemy is in an adjacent tile (your ship being boarded) you fail the level.

Bean and Nothingness

Only a couple worlds in and this game has already had a good few fantastic puzzles (and some very tricky ones I’ll need to get back to). The monster types are cool and its interesting to deduce the properties of new ones as you solve the areas simpler puzzles and then really apply what you’ve learned to the later ones. I can’t wait to see more of the monsters and figure out how they work.

Good puzzles and a lot of them. I can’t describe the game any better than the game description already does. It’s accurate. I’m pleasantly surprised by the ability to watch my old solutions from the demo while replaying puzzles, complete with waffling about wasting turns.

Swim Out

Swim Out

This game is freaking awesome!

Gameplay.

First of all there is a demo version available so it’s better to try yourself. It might look a bit simple an easy on start and all mechanichs are very familiar to a puzzle fan but as you progress more and more the defficulty increases pretty seriously. Especially when you completing all possible tasks at each level. It took me about 15 hours to complete this game 100% and I am pretty experienced in puzzles. And at the end feeling of satisfaction was one of the strongest in a game period.

Swim Out is an excellent puzzle game, and at the same time, an interesting study about how differently people react to very similar games depending on their cover and packaging.

Focusing on the game first. Swim Out is a movement puzzle game, very similar to the Go series (ie. Hitman / Lara Croft / Deus Ex). You are in a swimming pool, and you need to reach the exit by avoiding all the other swimmers, considering the environmental hazards as well. As the game progresses, the pools get more complicated, there are different types of “enemy” swimmers, and also additional tools to help your progress. There are about a 100 levels, and if you want to complete all objectives (there are 1-5 per level), the game will take about 8-10 hours.

Hunt: The Unknown Quarry

Hunt: The Unknown Quarry

I’m thoroughly enjoying this game. It’s a great alternative to Cluedo, but slightly more challenging and in-depth, in my opinion. It may take a few games to get to grips with the mechanics, cards and options available, but it won’t be long before you find yourself either being targeted/preyed upon or interrogating/attacking other players. It’s a dog-eat-dog type of survival game, where everyone’s out for themselves including the monster. The theme and daunting background music enhance the game, making you feel slightly uneasy (like prey), not knowing for sure who, what or where the monster is, unless they reveal themselves. Also, playing as the monster is an additional challenge, which requires an alternative strategic approach. You’ll soon find you can’t just go around munching on fellow opponents in broad daylight, but have to maintain a far more stealthy disposition. I felt the game was fairly balanced well, particularly if playing the monster against AI opponents (for mediocre players). However, I haven’t had the chance to properly play any friends online yet, so can’t say if this will be the case against live players, who I think will be a little more savvy. In any case, I believe this could only enhance the game further, making self-preservation more challenging. I’ve seen other comments related to lack of online activity (no one to play with) and about playing for free. For me personally, it’s no big deal, never felt the real need to be able to play strangers online. I took a gamble, bought the game and tested inviting a friend to play (for free), which worked fine, no issues. I was sceptical at first after reading some comments, but am extremely pleased to say how glad I am that I made this purchase. I can’t recommend ‘Hunt…’ highly enough, for those who love Cluedo, Mystery of the Abbey (tabletop games), but then maybe I’m just extremely optimistic and easily pleased.

Okay I love this game. Like a lot it mixes a lot of elements I like. It has a huge learning curve as many said which I think could be cut down like if you had a sheet or a tab to check what monsters did what that would be cool. Other than that the people complaining about assholes in chats and that didn’t group play I bet, its would be much easier playing with just friends than random people

Over all I don’t make a lot of reviews but i love this game so fucking much I’m leaving a review.

This is a review for the main game,I will add reviews for DLCs as they come out and I finish them.

This is a very good puzzle game, when I first saw it I thought…well this looks simple.Well let me tell you there are easy levels to introduce you to new mechanics but the harder levels can be very tricky and require planing and strategy.Luckily there is rewind button otherwise this would be a frustrating game. You can see many games had influence on the developers but to be honest this game is unique in its own way.The only thing I didnt like was the soundtrack, its repetitive and boring.

A stylishly fun puzzle game that gets everything it can out of its simple and unique mechanics

Built around an elegant and unique set of core mechanics, with new tweaks being added by each new world, every level is a minimalist challenge where every corner matters. It is as fun to formulate a plan before you start moving as it is to experiment with the “reset” and “undo” functions until it seems like you’re on to something.

There are optional levels in each world which can get really challenging, but no optional objectives within each level. No time constraints, no limited number of moves. The difficulty of the levels relies solely on the inventiveness of the puzzles, which never get repetitive.

GeoLogic

GeoLogic

Casual game where you solve logic puzzles that involve moving shapes with different properties around a grid (squares move one space, circles ‘roll’ until they hit something, triangles can flip or even combine with another triangle to make a square), to get the shapes to a ‘home base’. There is a setting to make the screen larger.

geologic is a simple but clever puzzler featuring 3 shapes with their own set of rules and the dream of reaching their respective exits on 200 chessboard-like levels. they’re unlocked one by one, 140 in normal mode, 60 in the so-called billy mode (see below), but both game modes are available from the start. squares are easy street, his friends are trickier.

Zen Blocks - Relaxing Puzzle Board Game

Zen Blocks - Relaxing Puzzle Board Game

I liked this game. Made simply and efficiently. I will note the advantages:

  1. Simple but interesting idea. Extremely comfortable to play using keyboard or gamepad

  2. Nice and pleasant soundtrack

  3. Optimization. The game is suitable for weak PCs

  4. Low price. The game is very affordable for almost everyone

Among the shortcomings, I note the lack of Steam achievements.

Real player with 4.6 hrs in game

The game’s core concept is very simple, yet very enjoyable. It’s easy to pickup and drop. It’s the type of game that people would play when they’re on very short breaks. I believe that fits the name of the game very well, and adheres to what the product page tells you. It may have its flaws but those flaws didn’t ruin my Zen experience. If you’re on the lookout for a game to relax or spend a few extra minutes on, this is definitely a good pickup.

Super X Chess

Super X Chess

An excellent game for chess variant enthusiasts.

Game play: This game sports multiple game rules and a plethora of new fairy pieces while still keeping the core of the game intact. The tutorial and the AI make learning the new rules easy and the game offers a lot of potential for improving your strategic thinking. The AI can be adjusted from easy to challenging and either side can be handicapped material. The new scenario selector offers additional opportunities for new and exciting situations to explore. There is also a list that lets you review the games you have played which is another major plus.
