The Elm Game
An abstract board game for two players - human or AI - that is easy to learn yet hard to master, played on a tree stump with beautiful procedurally generated backgrounds.
CPU PLAYER
There are three CPU players to choose from. Or ignore them and play against another fellow human. You can also sit back and watch the computer play against itself (helpful for learning the game).
-
The Fly is the easiest AI, meant for casual players or beginners.
-
The Beetle is a more advanced AI for people who want a challenge.
-
The Snail is the hardest AI, meant for highly professional players.
FEATURES
-
Local multiplayer / Remote play together
-
Single-player vs. computer with three difficulty levels
-
Steam achievements
-
Simple controls suited for mouse, controller and touch input
-
Quick reference describing the rules, controls and some tips for beginners
-
Randomly generated backgrounds
-
Runs on low end hardware
GAMEPLAY
The players Black and White take turns. Each turn a player chooses to either place a stone on any free point of the board or to change the color of any trapped stone. A stone is trapped if two or three stones of different color lie next to it. The game ends when there is no free point left and whoever has the most stones on the board wins.

CountryBalls Heroes
For this review I’m considering three things:
-
this is a new game (so bugs are expected)
-
the developers are indie so they might take longer to patch and update the game
-
if this game is on your radar you probably enjoy polandball/countryball meme comics.
So, I want to start off with the negatives. Nothing I hate more than reading through a review, getting hyped for the good, just to see some stuff that’s a deal breaker for me. We’ll start off with bugs/design issues:
SAVE GAME BUG
Probably the worst bug in the lot. It basically makes saves a pointless feature. Basically, if you load a save game all/most of the settlements disappear. They disappear from the map, from the quick bar to the right. Essentially destroying your save.

As an old Heroes 3 Fan, CountryBalls Heroes was a must buy for me.
Graphics are nicely drawn, animations are ok and the music is nice too. Nothing spectacular, but not bad either. I like the basic idea of HOMM 3 meets political incorrectness and the game has humor and charme. I got some chuckles here and there.
The gameplay is 100% HOMM 3, but a bit simpler and more shallow. You build your base, ride around the map with your hero, fighting for resources, producing more units until you’re strong enough to attack the opponent.

Tactical Troops: Anthracite Shift
The game is good for casual players who like to make some chaos on the maps but also for tactical-focused minds that analyze every turn. I love versatile weaponry with its various differences in games mechanics. However, unit types could be more distinct.
Gridless movement is quite unique feature in tactical games and it’s really fun to work on positioning your units on a playfield: “Hide behind his rock so I could lean out my rifle but not stick out too much not to get hit”.
Teleporters do the job of adding a new layer to this two-dimensional game. Great idea. They could be used in more places though.

The game is “tactical” all the way - it requires thinking and few mouse-waving skills. It does not require reflex. It’s also not a fast-paced game and gives you a fair amount of time to think. I’ve played chiefly the campaign mode.
There are always two phases: prep, where you decide how to equip your platoon, and the action phase, where you’re deployed. There’s some AI behind the enemies, so they don’t behave identically in every run, so sometimes the ‘improved’ strategy you came up with after a failed run also fails.

Casus Belli: Battle Of Annihilation
UPDATE 8/9/17: Four hours after my review went up, the developer added six balanced maps to the game for hotseat play and more “fair” contests against the AI. This changes my overall review to a “positive” one. The original review text follows:
Similar in approach to Advance Wars, the game features twelve maps of varied sizes, all of which provide significant resource advantages to the blue player (the AI by default, but it can be switched). This eliminates any balance for hot seat games, and the lack of a map editor (no random maps, either) means no alterations can be made to make things more fair. Locations around each map can be captured to provide resources (towns) or produce units (one land, air, or sea unit per location each turn). Units can move and attack each turn, and certain units perform better against specific enemies. The AI is a capable opponent, capturing locations and engaging with appropriate units, which makes any resource advantage seem unnecessary. While Casus Belli: Battle Of Annihilation offers approachable, simplified turn-based gameplay, the map design and lack of other features hold the game back.

interesting and addictive turn based strategy made in simple visual minecraft style
conquer cities to earn more gold to be able to have enough money to produce more military equipments,
make wise moves, count enemies powers - game’s not at all easy to play.
vast number of setup options - map size, balance, etc.
i enjoyed it.

Blind Battle Championship
Blind Battle Championship is a strategy turn-based tabletop fighting game, where the characters are blindfolded, so you will need to use your skills and intuition in order to defeat your enemies.
At the start of every round, players have a limited time to choose up to 15 movements. When the time ends, all characters put on a blindfold and execute those movements at the same time. There are 7 different classes of characters and every one of them has unique skills with differents effects and costs. So, in every round, players must predict the position and movements of the opponents based on their skills and the environment in order to attack them. You only have one life, so if you get hit, you get eliminated. The last one standing will get the victory.
You can play solo battles for up to 8 fighters, or in local multiplayer for up to 4 players. Choose between any of the 7 playable characters, every one of them with unique habilities that will be useful in every one of the 8 stages available:
-
The Warrior, a soldier of the King’s Guard, with sword, shield and bow, what makes her a very versatile fighter.
-
The Barserker, a strong mercenary who carries a heavy axe with which performs devastating shield-breaker attacks.
-
The Archer, an outlaw who shoots arrows at a great speed and can move in a very agile way.
-
The Spearman, a fighter with a long spear and a big shield that protects him at the front.
-
The Pyromancer, a crazy pyromaniac who uses bombs and a barrel of gunpowder to burn everything in her path, even herself.
-
The Trapper, a small rogue who fills the floor with traps and stuns his enemies with a smoke bomb.
-
The Knight, a frightening soldier on horse, who can keep fighting even after his horse has been knocked-down.

Theater of Carnage
Interesting fun game. There is already nice diversity of characters with creative mechanics. Clever use of their skills can punish opponent mistakes hard and turn things over. Overall the gamplay reminded me of some of the turn-based classics, but with more polished combat as its sole focus.
The game runs smooth, so far I have not encountered any issues. Looking forward to future updates.
