This game is something truly special. It’s smart and sophisticated, with fabulous yet understated art and music. The gameplay is very satisfying, and it makes me feel like an evil mastermind even when I lose! Play this game, you won’t regret it.

CHESS with LASERS

CHESS with LASERS

I was a beta tester for the game during the summer, and felt it was really going somewhere. It turned out beyond my expectations! The game kept upgrading, both graphic-wise and strategy-wise, as the developer added new pieces and maps each time more complex and fun. Also, the addition of the level editor makes the game all the more replayable.

**You should definitely buy the game, even only to support the developer.

To make it short, the game is awesome!**

Chess Multiple Boards

Chess Multiple Boards

Interesting concept. I’ve never seen a 3 floored Chess game before. Rules are a bit strange but seems consistent. It has regular and 3 floored modes. If you are a Chess enthusiast, you should have this in your inventory.

Might and Magic: Heroes VII – Trial by Fire

Might and Magic: Heroes VII – Trial by Fire

I’ve been a big fan of the Might and Magic Heroes games since the first one. Each iteration brIngs something new to the table, some changes welcome, some not.

Like Heroes VI, Heroes VII is a sprite based Strategy RPG. A number of things have been brought over from Heroes VI, mostly the beautiful graphics and terrible voice acting. However, missing are some of the best features of 6, including dynasty weapons and dynasty traits. Ultimately, those features lead to more playability where I have logged over 1500 hours. Heroes 7 “features” dynasty pets, but this is mostly cosmetic with a tiny creatures following in your Hero’s dusty trail. Town building and adventuring are still satisfying, the battles are epic and great fun.

I bought h7 complete last sale, when it was 14 euros and I can say it’s worth it, if you play single/hotseat. I don’t play online multiplayer so, can’t speak about it.

As I long time heroes franchise fan let me throw some quick points:

pros: - random map

  • 7 resources

  • easy to navigate and grasping the new mechanics, thx also to the heropedia

  • good battle mechanics

  • very nice sync between units and hero abilities, you need to know tho from the start what you want to be your fighting style - magic-shooters, might- offense melee/range, etc

Pawn of the Dead

Pawn of the Dead

Nice change on chess games, waiting for new scenarios

If you’re a chess fan, don’t miss Pawn of the Dead. New rules totally reinvigorate the game (but the original’s still there if you want it). Campaign is a series of 64 challenges but as if that wasn’t enough there’s also an arcade-style “queen vs zombies” mode.

You probably have to be a chess fan to enjoy this, but if you are, this is mindblowing. Features a campaign with 64 challenges, a “queen vs zombies” mode, 2p mode and both classic and zombie rules.

Unite

Unite

Unite is a two-player board game based on Lines of Action (a game created in the 1960’s). Players take turns moving (with some unique rules for movement), trying to connect their pieces. The single-player mode provides 7 difficulty levels against the AI. Or play online against an opponent over the network. Choose from 4 different board types.

Heroes of Might & Magic V: Tribes of the East

Heroes of Might & Magic V: Tribes of the East

If you have never played a Heroes of Might and Magic game, shame on you. This series spans back to my early childhood. The Heroes game I played the most was WOG, a custom expansion for HoM&M3. I loved this series and logged countless hours into these games. They are indepth yet easy to pick up, hard most of the time unless you are a seasond vet.

Build up your town. Recruit Troops (this version allows upto 7th level units). Upgrade your buildings to get bounses, like resorces, spells, or your creature dwelling. In HoMM5 you can select from 2 differant upgrades for each creature type. You have a army that is lead by your hero(s). On the map you will be just one person, but if you attack a creature stack or another player the map closes in and you switch to battle. This is simalar to RPGs where u wander around a map and you trigger combat then cut screen, there is your party ready to kick some butt.

TL,DR: Treats Heroes 3 itch, but doesn’t offer much new.

Pros:

  • good ‘ole Heroes 3 with expanded hero and creature skill system

  • a bit too cartoonish, but still very solid and stylish graphics and overall design

  • every faction is very different gameplay-wise due to new global racial ability system

Cons:

  • too many crucial things are random-based, way too many for a TBS

  • low variety of interactive nodes on the map: either a guarded treasury, a permanent or temporary + to some stat or an outdoor variety of some sort of a town building. Some challenged nodes like “+1 luck to all owner’s heroes” or an architect’s hut that gives some discount on buildings in owner’s towns or allows to build twice per day would be nice. Alas
