Crawl

One of the best local multiplayer games ever made. My friends and I have played this almost every week without fail since launch - it’s that damn good. When we meet new people who claim they’re into games, we vet them on this and see if they have fun or can appreciate the depth of game mechanics. We love this game because there’s nothing like sitting shoulder to shoulder with a pal and howling with rage at a stolen kill, laughter at a horde of slimes causing a human to suddenly play a Shmup, or roars of hype when a close bossfight comes down to the wire. My short recommendation for this game is BUY IT. But now let’s get to why you should.

Oh man. Where do I begin with this game? There’s so much done right about this game that it’s very quickly becoming one of my favourite rougelikes. Let’s just dive right into the dungeon and start chopping off the pros and cons of this insanely unique and fast-paced competitive Gauntlet-inspired roguelike.

Pros:

+Fast paced couch competition. The game is super quick to pick up and just as wasy to learn, utilizing only the movement directions and two buttons.

+Most unique idea for a rogulike in a long time. The fact that AI or other friends control your ENTIRE JOURNEY is so fresh and innovative that I honestly can’t think of a game to compare it to.

and now onto the short review

//Description//

Pixels Guide to Staying Dead is a local top down shooter game with an interesting twist- you must bring your opponents to 0 HP. Use your math skills to determine how to do that.

//Graphics, Sound & Artstyle//

there isn’t much to say about the graphics as it seems like any other pixel type of game. Sound is nice and found myself humming the main theme.

Great PvP game. Fun one to couch play or with people online. Map design looks nice and looking forward to thrashing some friends.

Woo eeh! That hydra mini game is hard but in the way that makes you wanna keep going until you’ve smashed your monitor.

If you’re in for a challenge the single will give it to you in spades, with a thumping techno soundtrack to get you pumped for each attempt.

Versus mode is a fast and wild, reflecting a shot into your opponents face and having them try to block only to realise it’s an unblockable bullet and gasp in horror as their little alien explodes into dust, is something to experience.

Great game, would buy again! (y)

DiscStorm

DiscStorm

It seems so simple, throw some discs around and dodge some enemies. After spending 3 hours trying to finish the first level in the campaign I had to give up and take a break. I am clearly not as skilled as I assumed I was, I needed some time to re-eveluate life choices and check where I went wrong. This game is a very entertaining challenge for me, I’m hooked on it and picking it right back up after I finish writing this review!

The gameplay is very smooth. I’m personally playing using keyboard and mouse but I really should get myself a controller for this. The art and music are very well done, and they blend in perfectly to add to that all-important gameplay, and really help to stay motivated.

After 1 hour of playing the game I still haven’t managed to kill the first boss!

Art- The Character designs and general overall look of the game is absolutely beautiful.

Bugs - Haven’t noticed any bugs yet, the one thing I would say which itsn’t necersarilly a bug is that during the first boss fight it can be difficult to reclaim your discs when adds are up

Sound - The Soundtrack of the game is beautiful and well worth the extra price, It’s been in my head since i bought this game!

Gameplay - Overall the gameplay is very fun! I play on mouse and keyboard but I imagine that it’ll be even more fun to play on a controller.

Duck Game

Duck Game

Been playing this game with my friends for 3 years, almost every Thursday night.

This is the only couch co-op game that we keep playing on a regular basis

Gameplay

The gameplay is fluid and fast paced, with no input delay

Controls are easy to get the hang of

There’s a lot of variety with weapons and maps

The skill ceiling became extremely high after we discovered angled shots

You can set the amount of rounds that you want in a match before starting

You can set the amount of rounds you want before an intermission, that shows the amount of rounds each player has won, this makes it more intense for the winning player as the others may capitalize and target the winning player

So far, pretty fun! I like the music, the art style, its great! My only complaint is the lack of online battles. I want to play locally, or match up with my friends via friend battle. Thats just my nitpick though. The AI is challenging so I don’t mind too much.

Fan of the old jump n bump from the 90s. Used to sit there playing jump bump as we called it. As kids 4 of us on one keyboard those were the days . This is very similar. I really like this game. I certainly would like more levels but I guess maybe one day lol.

Jump Gunners

I was lucky enough to be able to test this game throughout it’s alpha and beta stages, only to see it finally launch a few weeks ago. I would have written a review earlier if I had the free time, but obviously with it getting this close to December, people that are still in school know that it finals are coming up quick. Anyways, seeing this game progress through its development has been eye opening in how games can be designed. The developer takes comments and suggestions to heart, and will even possibly show up in future updates.

I was lucky enough to playtest some early builds of Jump Gunners and to see it develop into the awesome game you can buy today.

I’ve put it in front of a bunch of people for multiplayer matches and everyone picks it up quickly. It makes people laugh, and swear, and most importantly makes them want to keep playing “just one more round”.

Obviously, it has a retro asthetic, but more importantly it reminds me of what local multiplayer gaming used to feel like in the Mega Drive era - switch it on, and jump right into the action.
