One of the best local multiplayer games ever made. My friends and I have played this almost every week without fail since launch - it’s that damn good. When we meet new people who claim they’re into games, we vet them on this and see if they have fun or can appreciate the depth of game mechanics. We love this game because there’s nothing like sitting shoulder to shoulder with a pal and howling with rage at a stolen kill, laughter at a horde of slimes causing a human to suddenly play a Shmup, or roars of hype when a close bossfight comes down to the wire. My short recommendation for this game is BUY IT. But now let’s get to why you should.

Oh man. Where do I begin with this game? There’s so much done right about this game that it’s very quickly becoming one of my favourite rougelikes. Let’s just dive right into the dungeon and start chopping off the pros and cons of this insanely unique and fast-paced competitive Gauntlet-inspired roguelike.

Pros:

+Fast paced couch competition. The game is super quick to pick up and just as wasy to learn, utilizing only the movement directions and two buttons.

+Most unique idea for a rogulike in a long time. The fact that AI or other friends control your ENTIRE JOURNEY is so fresh and innovative that I honestly can’t think of a game to compare it to.

Crimson Nights

Crimson Nights

OVERVIEW

Crimson Nights is a retro room-based arena brawler with a no-magic fantasy theme from new indie developers, The Crimson Nights Team.

The game includes no story or background lore whatsoever. Rather, you play one of up to four unknown fighters who must destroy all of the creatures in a room in order to unlock the exit. Then you leave the room, and find yourself in another very similar room, and do it all again.

Graphics

Crimson Nights takes the retro pixel graphics approach to visuals, and they are mostly competent. Character and monster graphics look quite good in the game, though animations are very limited. The backgrounds seem to have a bit more detail than the characters and these look quite nice, though become repetitive rather quickly.

I really Enjoyed this, the hraphic design is very unique and brings you back to those classic games but with a new twist. I have a lot of fun playing this constantly striving to do better. Great graphics, Good music, nice game play

Legends of Pixelia

An amazing game, truly underrated. Fun to play solo or with friends, and with a versus mode which compliments the game perfectly. Adventure is fun and chaotic with friends, with a nice pace. I only encountered one minor problem, and that was my keyboard controls sometimes reverting back to the original scheme for seemingly no reason, but only on booting the game up, never in the middle of a round of versus or adventure. Controller compatibility works fine. I love this game.

A very simple oldschool hack’n’slash RPG with an easy to understand color-coded cooldown-based skill system, procedurally generated dungeons, and a decent cast of different character classes to choose from.

The colors correspond to the colors on an X-box controller. The game can be played in softcore or hardcore modes, with the hardcore mode being a roguelike mode.

The game honestly looks pretty if you’re into this style of graphics. It plays smoothly. When you die, you can be pretty sure that it’s your fault. There are a nice variety of enemies that get stronger and more varied as you progress. Each dungeon has its own unique theme and 3 floors with a boss at the end of each floor.

Warhammer: Chaosbane

Warhammer: Chaosbane

Update january 7th 2020:

youre welcome to read the full review, but let me say that after 130h clocked in this game, playing god knows how many relic hunts on chaos 3-5 with max modifiers, ive yet to achieve more than 3-4 greens on a char, out of 10 possible wearables.

this game is straight up just boring. i am a huge warhammer nerd, and ive had so much hope for this game, it had the potential, might still have. but its so much reusing the same stuff, main story is basically the same story and progression four times. were talking with so little difference you hardly see it.

REVIEW : WARHAMMER: CHAOSBANE

ACHIEVEMENTS : 43 / 43 (100%)

SCORE : 6/10

This game is if Diablo 3 had no expansion, was the first game of the studio and just threw a fine and well Warhammer coat of paint on it. This is by all means a good Warhammer RPG game, but this is no true Hardcore RPG experince alikes to POE or GD

… why should I even get this?

If you’re REALLY having a diablo itch and nothings doing it for ya, this will probably be a very good time for you. This is not a hard game with really not a whole lot of setting up to do with builds or complications with how things really work. This is a great introduction to the Diablo-Like Top Down RPGS for a basic, repetitive but overall fun experience

One Deck Dungeon

One Deck Dungeon

One Deck Dungeon is a lot of fun! You play an adventurer who decends into a dungeon made up of randomly drawn cards that you must overcome (or run away from). Fighting and disabling traps is resolved via dice rolls which are mitigated by your Skills. The number of dice is determined by your equipment. It’s a very clever and pretty game.

However, 13 hours in, I just stomped all the Fearless (hardest) mode dungeons with my Healing Spec Paladin. I mean, it wasn’t even close, even when she got completely unlucky. (for proof, feel free to check the screenshots on my profile) Perhaps Healadins are just overpowered once you know what’s going on.

One deck dungeon is a very faithful interpretation of the board game, and this translates into a very fun, albeit slightly repetitive experience.

At its heart, one deck dungeon is a simple dice game where you roll dice of 4 different colours in an attempt to overcome enemy encounters by using the dice to fill in the boxes on the enemy card. Dice can only be used to fill boxes of the same colour as the die and if the number on the die is higher than the value on the box. Any unfilled boxes then apply penalties in the form of damage or wasted time at the end of the round. At the end of each encounter you can then choose an additional die for future encounters, a skill which can be used to manipulate your dice in various ways, or experience towards your character level. This process then repeats until you eventually reach the boss or perish in the attempt.

  • When you start the game, the training section welcomes you and the training easily teaches you everything you need to know.

  • The graphic designs of the game belong to a full RPG world. The dark and jagged designs of the dungeons make you feel like you are on a real battlefield.

  • One of my favorite features of the game is that there are parry, block and Dodge mechanics in the game. It literally immerses you in the action. These are indispensable features for the rpg world.

After playing for around 5 hours (multiple playthroughs) I’ve gathered some thoughts.

It’s an okayish game right now. It needs more content and a good amount of polish but I’ve encountered no bugs that made it impossible to play. Also I’m giving a positive review because I like the concept and I hope, that there is more to come (more enemies, different locations, and I am especially looking at you Roguelike-mode!)

I hope to come back to this game and find a solid and polished game but for now, here are some things that I would change or improve a little bit and some bugs I’ve encountered.

Dual Core

Dual Core

First impressions, this a good fun game. It’s fairly simple to play, no complicated controls (I use mouse and keyboard, but I understand it’s designed for controllers). I’ve only played single player so far, but I’ll let the kids loose on this tommorow for some local coop and update review then. So far so good.

This is a really good, yet strangely unkown, twin stick shooter. And I honestly can’t see the reason why there is not much hype for this game. The graphics are well done handdrawn style with appealing effects layed all over it, the music is good and pumping and apart from very few ones missing here and there even the sound effects are quite good. The controls are perfectly responsible. There are only very few times when you get stuck on a corner and that’s nothing that can’t be flattened out by upgrading your robots speed so it can run and turn faster.

Gauntlet™ Slayer Edition

Gauntlet™ Slayer Edition

Arrowhead was undoubtedly thrilled to apply their mantra to their childhood franchise by quickening the series with a more tactical reboot. They indeed elaborated on the action, but did they make a winning formula, and is this truly Gauntlet?

The Heroes

If your perspective on nostalgia consists of 4 buddies coming together as Warrior, Valkyrie, Wizard, and Elf and challenging the Gauntlet, you’re in for a real treat. Arrowhead’s expansion to them is very worthy! Each possesses nods to their original concept. Merlin’s spells are an absolute joy to wield, and though the others have less to work with, there is elegance in their designs. All are solid, and all depend on player skill and improvisation.

TLDR: Highly recommended, good fun in single player or multiplayer and ok for people who get motion sick from fps or moba style games.
