A simple, fun, addicting game. The music really stands outs! I would recommend for those who are looking for something to play in between other games, or with your friends locally.

Headsnatchers

Headsnatchers

Free on HumbleBundle.

Game is like a diamond covered in pig shit. It’s got a fun concept but the execution is terrible. Janky controls. Shoddy online. Some of the games are in other players’ favor (isometric camera makes it difficult to see for bottom left and bottom right players, as we found out in the basketball game), the games have no countdown before they start so if your connection isn’t great you can be fucked, the ways to complete some of the games leave you open for attack (throw head into audience one my enemy had my head and was showing to the fans, but I came from behind and attacked them knocking their head into the audience which resulted in me winning???). There is probably more to complain about but I only played it for about half an hour.

Headsnatchers is a party game, akin to Mario Party but without the board game portion. The big issue with Headsnatchers is that it is close to being good, but never achieves it. The core gameplay mechanic of knocking down your opponent and stealing their head is fun and unique, but the game is executed in such a mediocre way that it never realizes its full potential. The controls are weird and take time to get used to. For the games, there is 25 games total and they are all pretty short. It becomes pretty repetitive in a short amount of time, especially when every game is some variation of “take their head and press the action button”. There was a great opportunity to come up with some unique mini-games based on the head snatching mechanics, but they all feel too similar. Overall, the game is too middle of the road in a genre with plenty of great games.

Megabyte Punch

Megabyte Punch

Megabyte Punch is an awesome platformer with 4 player versus and coop, highly customizable characters, tons of secrets in maze like levels with tough bosses all in a Super Smash Bros style Brawler.

The main game is fairly short, There are only 6 levels, But each level has 3 parts and each level has a boss and there is a final boss, So this amounts to 18 levels, 7 bosses and a whole lot of unlockables to find. All levels are full with secrets and getting certain parts helps you get to previously unreachable areas.

As someone who’s clocked more time into this than I can arguably say many people have, and stands as the only game in my library that I’ve 100% completed, I’d probably sound just as you’d expect when I say that Megabyte Punch is just good. Just very, very, veryveryvery good. Don’t even let the 100% completion, or the 50 hours, be what convinces you. Hell, don’t even let my review be what convinces you, either! I’m not exactly an unbiased source of information here!

(tl;dr at the bottom.)

Now, before anything else, I’ll mention off the bat that I got the code for my copy of the game off of a Steam friend; looking back, though, I’d say that I’d have bought this regardless, and maybe some more copies for friends as well. take with that information what you will, as maybe not having paid for it myself’s painted my opinion a little.

PGA TOUR 2K21

PGA TOUR 2K21

Coming from The Golf Club 2019. While the game was extremely rough on the edges, especially on the presentation being awful, I still loved the game for one reason : The gameplay. It felt amazing and I fell in love with it despite all the other shortcoming.

When I saw PGA Tour 2k21 out, I expected to be completely let down, the usual EA tactic of releasing the same game with barely if any change at all. Luckily I was wrong on this regard. A ton of gripes I had with TGC2019 was corrected, such as partial swings being impractical, the green grid partially covering the green, no spin control on the ball and no customizable clubs/stats. Yes the game is basically TGC2019 V.2 but, to be honest for a moment here, you can’t really add anything too substantial to a sport game that relies on being realistic beside polish. I do agree on the fact that full price for this game is a tad expensive : You do need to enjoy realistic golf to make the price tag feel right.

Full disclosure, I bought the Deluxe Edition when it was on sale for about 30 bucks and I had a $25 Steam gift card, so this game was as close to free as I could get without someone gifting it to me.

Would I recommend this at full price to anyone for the Deluxe Edition? No.

Would I recommend this to someone getting it at a steep discount? Absolutely.

Now, on to the review.

You’ll read a lot of negative comments about the commentary, and all of it is true. It’s repetitive, rarely describes what’s actually happening, recaps will seem like they’re from an entirely different match, etc. This is spot on critique. There is a lot of jank in the way the commentary will put together random phrases to try and simulate actual play by play and color commentary. But sometimes, that jank is golden.

Combat Core

Combat Core

A great 3d arena brawler, Combat Core has the “pick up and play” accessibility of a party game while providing room for a lot of technical depth once you understand how the various mechanics work. Fights involve 2-4 players and uses the character stock system similar to Super Smash Bros..

Basic combat involves utilizing weapons, grabs, quick combo strings and core attacks to deal damage to your opponent; as a party game this is enough to ensure a good time if you just want to beat down your friends in a few matches. However, once you understand how the parry and defensive roll mechanics work the technical game opens up considerably.

Combat core is an excellent arena brawler. I highly recommend this game if you want something fun, casual, and different than your traditional fighting games.

The gameplay is very solid. There are no special inputs you have to execute to perform specific attacks, it’s as easy as pressing one button, or you can mix it up with two different buttons. There are a handful of fighters that you can choose from at the moment, they all have their own unique moveset and look.

Before every round you can select a “core”. These grant you special abilities that you can use, such as laser beams, super uppercuts, super piledriver, charged rush, etc… These cost energy points to use during battle.
