Big Farm Story

Big Farm Story

I’ve never left a review for a game, but i felt i should leave one for this game. Firstly, I actually enjoyed this game. With that being said, i do think it has a lot of room for improvement. The biggest issue being the cost of crops vs what they can actually be sold for. I found that 90% of crops could only be sold for maybe 5-7 coins more than what it cost to grow them. And even certain crops say they make more when sold in the market, the difference is maybe 3-5 coins more than if they were just sold normally. This is also a common problem with other profitable items. There’s hardly any real balance, which makes it hard to make any real money even after grinding this game to a pulp in 60 hours after it’s release. The second issue i found with it, is the lack of actual story line. It’s a very slow progression to get anywhere, and then when I got to Chapter 6 I found myself saying “That’s it?” There’s not much to the characters either besides doing quests for them and earning friendship tokens, which just made it… boring. In terms of uniqueness, it is a very basic, linear story. Not really much to it. The MMO aspect was different though, but also random? I enjoy the idea of it, but in actuality the only real play ability with other players is visiting their house, and planting Friendship hummus to get more friendship tokens. Besides that I found it to be almost pointless and more of an inconvenience when trying to interact with quests in the town center. With all that being said, something about this game kept wanting to play more. It is similar to Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, so it is an overall very mellow and easy game to play. I found it to be very stress relieving because it is so easy to play and get along with. I also believe this is developers first PC game after focusing on more phone games, so it definitely has the phone game feel. Which all the more stresses the fact it has lots of room to improve. I would absolutely come back to check it out after some larger updates in the future, but as of right now I feel I’ve finished everything that is worth accomplishing in the game. I’m excited to see where this game ends up in the future.

Big Farm Story is a cute farming game still under development so I’ll be a little bit patient with the current game’s flaws. The story starts off like most of the farming games, you receive a letter from your grandfather asking you to take over the farm because he has something else he needs to check on. Once you arrived at the farm, you find it in a bad state after the recent storm, but your neighbor’s son Benny offered to help you. Your mission now is to find out where your grandfather is.

I have read most of the reviews about the game before the purchase and I must say after trying it out, Im totally flabbergasted by how harsh and untrue the complaints were. Yes, there are significant changes (not all good) from the previous release but overall it is STILL a bloody decent game for its time. I have played my fair share of bad games my entire life but this aint it and I often wonder if those people who condemned this game even come from the same planet I live in while I load the game up and think about what combos Im able to pull off that session.

The game is just as fun as I remember, the combat systems haven’t changed. The game would have done well, if not better, if the actual 3d models were utilized instead of sprites, imo, but regardless: Now it’s all in HD, with a loading time of less then 5 seconds and smooth 60 frames (GTX 1060). I’ve been having a lot of fun with this beat-em-up port. But: With that said, there are some glaring criticisms.

-Artifacts from the original port are still there, and still outstanding. The pixelation being the most obvious, especially in the cutscenes.

THE GOOD:

Starting up was super easy. We only needed one copy of the game so I downloaded it, we all downloaded the app (onto our Galaxy S7 Edges) and connected to my wifi (on 2.4Ghz because my 5Ghz seems to sputter sometimes with everything I try to connect to it), started the game and put in a label, started the app on our phones connected and hit “Start” on the game (on the PC). We waited for only a few brief moments for each player to get their starting dialog and get connected with the other players. It was literally that easy.

pros:

  • The local co-op. A unique opportunity to play the game on one screen with 5 friends. Players are not required to sit at computer or hold a joystick. Each player can take their favorite place in the room and play with their smartphone.

  • The battle. Interesting and intense battles with multiple abilities and friendly fire.

  • Semi-turn-based combat provides time to think over your tactics and at the same time, there is virtually no waiting time for other players or enemies moves.

FORCED: Slightly Better Edition

FORCED: Slightly Better Edition

What separates a cheap gimmick from a solid game mechanic is that a gimmick gets used once and then gets boring or forgotten, whereas a game mechanic thrives in ever-evolving conditions, forcing the player to apply the same basic concept in different, creative and newly effective ways. In “Forced”, the unique mechanic is that you must call a little ball of light to your current position, leading it through environmental triggers that benefit you or progress your objective. While this is simple in theory, things get real messy real quick when you throw in countless enemies and your means to fight them.

FORCED is a Action Role-Playing Game heavily pushing a co-op experience.

STORY

I would say the weakest part of the game, other than some of the technical issues that some people still experience (see technical) - would be the story. It’s a very quick and short tale that leaves a lot to the imagination. I’m not saying it’s bad; simply shallow. If your goal is to find a rich story - you will not find it here.

ELEMENTS

All players have the option to play one of four classes which are determined in the entrance room to each trial room. It is also good to note that no matter the decision of the class; in most cases you will have healing spells, damage spells, and defensive spells of some kind. Other than the inherit differences between melee and ranged; the developers have done a good job at keeping most everything balanced. The true co-op experience comes into play before anyone even enters a trial; deciding who will have which spell to counter the trial mechanics. This is an element that most co-op games don’t have.

Boot Hill Heroes

Boot Hill Heroes

[Spoiler-Free Review]

Setting an RPG in the spaghetti west just makes so much sense!

Boot Hill Heroes is a modern RPG designed as a sort of homage to the glory days of the Role Playing and Wild West genres. The story is easy to follow and progresses at a snappy pace, the difficulty is forgiving (for the most part), and while it doesn’t allow for true ‘save anywhere!’ functionality, you’ll never feel locked-in to a play session beyond what your time allows. Despite being a linear experience overall, the game still manages to deliver a large scope RPG feel (complete with unique characters, game mechanics, and plot twists and turns throughout).

INDIE FANTASY LOCAL MULTIPLAYER GAME FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY, SET UP ON THE WORLD OF ETERNALIA

Two games in one; Classic Arcade mode and First Person Medieval Shooter. There might be a third mode coming if you people like the videogame; a party RPG, integrating the story of the Essence Reaper Ritual with the mechanics of this videogame. You decide!

FEATURES AND CONTENTS

  • Local multiplayer fantasy game, for 1-4 players, sharing same screen.

  • Steam Play Together. Invite your friends to play with you even if they dont own a copy.

  • An Arcade mode campaign, to play with your friends or solo. Hack and Slash.

  • A First Person mode, following the same campaign than that of the Arcade mode.

  • An Arena mode; gather your party, venture forth and face five waves of enemies, each wave of increasing difficulty.

  • 5 different characters, each one with their uniques skills and combat styles.

  • Subttile and menus in three different languages; English, French and Spanish.

  • Beta version will have one full playable level. As we move forward, up to 4 more leves will be added.

  • Each level is set up in a different atmosphere, with different enemies.

The idea of creating this videogame came in when spending time with our young family members (e.g. nephews and niece) playing a videogame. It should be easy to play, not too many buttons, yet plenty of fun. We are scripting from the very beginning everything to accommodate three languages; English, French and Spanish, so the videogame will be available en those three languages.

We just give you for now a video and a couple of screen capture of the first tests.

We are thinking on adding a script to be able to import your own pictures to the game, so instead of having the 4 portraits of each character, you may import yours. I bet my niece and nephews would love that.

Alpha version of the videogame, actual game play, is working well.

LOCALISATION

I have been integrating different languages from the very beginning of programming / development. I use Dialogue System from Pixel Crushers which allows easy integration, and for specific short texts as in the Main Menu, I have just hardcode it. Once you choose a language, Dialogue System keeps / save that info for the entire videgame, so upon load an scene, Dialogue System load all previous saved data including language chosen.

Quest Hunter

Quest Hunter

I’d never recommend this to another person.

So here’s the thing. I played Quest Hunter & didn’t hate it. But there are a ton of reasons why I’d never point another gamer in this direction.

1st off, combat is terrible. Hitboxes force you to attack like the close talker on Seinfeld. Basically your mele is completely useless. You’re going to take a hit, if you try to use mele. Since you know you’re going to take damage, you might think that you can just use your shield to block & attack when your enemy is open. Problem is that you take a ton of damage through your shield, unless you stat up your shield block, which forces you to gimp your other stats(Health, Attack, & Defense). Level cap is 20, so skill points are limited.

Real player with 50.8 hrs in game

Quest Hunter is a generic hack and slash action RPG game with some appeal. You play a random “digger” character with a shovel, cute clothing, beards and hair styles but very little actual combat abilities. The goal of the game is just beating down every critter and destroying every single rock and trees to accumulate shiny resources. Well it isn’t exactly this, but after 20 hours, finishing the main quest line can be summarized as such with no shame.

The combat is somewhat boring. You can hack forward with the attack button, block strikes with the block button and move around a 3D map with no camera controls. It’s very basic and not very challenging. I didn’t even bother blocking on my first play through. There’s no dodging, so the only thing you have to watch out for is not getting hit pass your tank line. To this base, there are spell abilities to grind for, but none of it really improves either the game’s difficulty rating (really easy) or the fact that I can’t play it for more than 30 minutes without being completely bored.

The Baconing

The Baconing

The Baconing is (almost certainly) the final game in the DeathSpank series. Following on from Thongs of Virtue, The Baconing

! has you travelling the game world on a mission to defeat the AntiSpank and destroy the five thongs so painstakingly gathered in the previous game.

The gameplay itself is basically identical to the previous two games, but the focus on combat is more pronounced – while you can go through the game quite simply on normal difficulty, playing on Insane will likely be a frustrating experience; you will need to rely heavily on the block and reflect mechanics, and you will find yourself growing increasingly frustrated when heavily outnumbered. The majority of the obstacles are not insurmountable, but it does detract somewhat from the enjoyment. Local co-op does make an appearance once again however, which may help to lessen the difficulty curve.

Real player with 21.6 hrs in game

This is a hard one to recommend for me. I would preface this by saying that only fans of the previous games should apply for this adventure. There are critics that say the writing isn’t as good or that it is juvenile. I’m not sure I believe it’s as bad as they say, though there is entire quest dealing with juvenile phrasing. The voice acting for the most part is just as good as the previous two games and the humor worked for me more than it didn’t.

As for the issues… there are plenty. First, alt-tabbing tends to cause the game to completely crash, which is something the first game did only once for me and the second a couple of times. This one, it was widespread. The difficulty feels way higher as well. The mechanic of shield bashing and reflecting projectiles is good in concept, but it seems that the designers looked at that benefit they gave you and then proceeded to make the enemies more numerous and of higher levels than they were previously. To that end, the enemy levels feel arbitrary at times. In the first Deathspank, once I was at a certain level, I could bowl over lesser enemies (even sending their bodies flying with a simple hit). In this game, if there is a group of 4 projectile enemies that are 2 levels weaker than you, you have a great chance of getting killed if you’re not very careful in how you approach the battle. In the first Deathspank, I didn’t die very often and when I did, it felt like it was something I might have been able to prevent. In Thongs of Virtue, I died more often, but it still had an air of something I might have been able to prevent if I was better skilled. In The Baconing, I would die several times in each section and felt there were plenty of cheap, unavoidable situations where the only way I could progress was to throw myself at a group of enemies and hope I’d take one or two of them out before dying so I would have less of them to go through when I came back to that area. It made a lot of the combat very irritating. Some of the fetch quests are a bit redundant and in one, the guy giving it to you even tells you that there is a boring way of doing it, so why don’t you steal the items you need. After that, he then proceeds to tell you how you STILL have to do a boring fetch quest to make this supposedly quicker method work.

Ages of Mages: The last keeper

The game is nice but … wtf with the sound of the background ??? That shit blows my ears every fucking time there is fire, watter, or any other animation. This should be in the settings. Alongs with the controls for keyboard btw. And borderless windowed, because this is a game with a pause and you will probably want to alt+tab without having the game reduced (I do. A lot).

I’d love to see online multiplayer too. But it’s still fun to play in local with 4 controllers.

XP gain should be reviewed in multiplayer though, and be equally split between all members. Else the healer will be 3-4 levels behind at the end of the current beta due to the lack of AOE damage (in our case, it was 13 and others were 16-16-17).

Good Fun Co-op Games. AoM is still in the early stage of development. Anyhow, you still can enjoy it with friends. Some bugs here and there but nothing major to annoy your gaming experience. Lightning mage is still weak even after last upgrade on 15 May but it’s way better than the first settings.

I hope This games continues to develop further and maybe add skill 5 in all the mages' arsenal.

It’s a very decent game. A budget game definetely and not a triple A title, but it is the very top of budget games level.

The voice acting is exactly what you expect from a budget title, a very hilarious at times, but it keeps a decent level mostly.

The gameplay is a simple mix of beat’em up and top down shooter (depending on which character you play) with some small RPG enchancements like items and skills.

If you go to it open minded and close an eye to small bad things like clunky AI and sometimes annoying moments when you fall down and die, then you can get around 6 hours of fun arcade like mayhem. Also there the controls are not changeable (but I found them easy to learn and handle).
