RE:Solver

RE:Solver

Step into the role as an investigator under the RE:Solver Agency, a new investigation unit designed to take a fresh look at complicated cases. With your skills and newly granted overreaching privileges, you can access numerous confidential records on essentially anyone. Browse medical records, phone logs, browser histories, and social media to learn everything there is to learn about your suspects.

Background

The game takes place within a fictitious world, quite similar to ours, but with a few key differences. As crime rates are on the rise, a private agency called RE:Solver has sprung up, giving new power in the field of digital forensics. They aid law enforcement around the world by diving in and dissecting the case inch by inch, bringing a fresh set of eyes and vital information to the people in the field.

Nothing will stop a member of RE:Solver to get to the truth. Not rules, not privacy concerns, not ethics.

Gameplay

Use the tools given and dig into every corner of the lives of the suspect. Collect phone records, credit card transcripts, daily habits, and more through the Emerald Network. Browse the game-internal internet for missing people, public records, social media, and more.

Once you have a strong case, you may file them and hope you put the right person behind bars.

Production

This game is based on a series of investigation tabletop roleplaying one-shots written and conducted by Nils Munch during the Covid-19 lockdown. A great thank you to all the players and playtesters taking place in building and polishing up this game.

Creative liberty

While the world seems much like ours, all suspects and the criminal cases you are solving are a complete work of fiction, and any resemblance to any real individuals, living or dead, are purely coincidental. All characters portrayed are generated electronically, and no real people are displayed inside the game.

Aces of the Luftwaffe - Squadron

Aces of the Luftwaffe - Squadron

Not z good Shmup.

  • Long loading times

  • The action is hindered by text overlay at times

  • The zoom in zoom out effect adds nothing to gameplay but interfere with the action

  • The whole squadron thing is more a nuisance than anything else4

  • Grindy, you’ll eventually get all upgrade

The first AotL was better as a simple SHMUP, this one is boring

Very fun game. My only complaint is that sometimes with all of the firepower from you and your squadron as well as boss fire, it can be a bit hard to see where you are sometimes. Overall, the challenge is fair in most cases, the voice acting is entertaining and I appreciate how the story looks at both sides of the conflict with the DLC added. I hope to see more in this series!

This is a neat game! The style of the ship and the ship manual are super flavorful and I had fun messing around with it. The one problem is that it’s a bit repetitive: most of the hazards you can see are handled in very similar ways and it feels like once you’ve played it for a few hours you could start to memorize most of the steps. Definitely once your Mission Control has gotten a feel for how to navigate the manual the missions become pretty easy.

That said, the aesthetic is great and if it interests you I definitely recommend it. Just know that you won’t be getting too much playtime out of it unless you regularly invite new players to be in charge of Mission Control. I’d love to see the game expanded in some way with either dual hazards or more variation in how you solve problems, but it’s a fun package as it is and I plan to keep showing it to friends.

As someone that has played a lot of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, and ALSO someone that loves all the movies/series about various NASA space programs, this game seemed right up my alley.

So my friends and I got into character and decided that we didn’t need to preview the manual, we just jumped in. Then we died, and died, and died again. Since it’s the first day the game came out, we couldn’t even look to search engines for help guides. Eventually, though, we read the manual correctly and things improved. (And by ‘we’ I mean my friend did. I’m still very confused.) – Hint, page 57 is a good page.

Jamestown

Jamestown

First off, if you are interested in this game, I recommend getting Jamestown+ instead. It has two more stages and more ships.

Jamestown is a shmup with its stages primarily designed around co-op gameplay. However, enemy HP does scale so that enemies don’t become sponges if played solo. More about solo gameplay on higher difficulties later.

Jamestown doesn’t provide you with a bomb mechanic. Instead it has a hyper-like mechanic called vaunt. It will greatly increase dealt damage and create a shield which absorbs bullets upon activation. The duration of the vaunt can be increased by collecting the golden items. If it runs out, you’ll gain a significant amount of score, especially after a long vaunt. Cancelling the vaunt manually will provide you with brief invincibility and only provide you with a fraction of the score you’d get otherwise.

Tyrannis

Tyrannis

This is a brilliant example of the kind of wonderfully niche games that steam makes possible. The mechanics are simple and (mostly) intuitive. The AI is surprisingly clever and will catch you off guard if your not careful, and the lore and aesthetics are excellent, Well worth the price.

Only two points of criticism:

First, some of the terms and concepts aren’t properly explained, Raiding (which I think just means when rebels attack though I’m not sure) is one, coalition building is another. I cant figure out how to chose who is in my coalition and it makes the endgame a bit frustrating.

An absolutely kickass game with a lot of potential. Not only is the gameplay great, but the story and all of the intel reports are top class. Since this was made by a TNO dev, it has a distinct TNO-type vibe to it that I absolutely love.

Bartlow’s Dread Machine

Bartlow’s Dread Machine

Check out the full written review: https://www.confidentgamers.com/blog/bartlows-dread-machine-review-pc

Bartlow’s Dread Machine takes us back to the simpler times when arcade machines were more mechanical filled with gears, pulleys and levers. This twin stick shooter injects a small dose of style and imagery which we quite welcomed. While not perfect, Bartlow’s Dread Machine does hold our attention long enough, taking us through a story filled with mystery, intrigue and suspense.

The twin stick shooter has been around for awhile, but Tribetoy and Beep Games have presented it in a new stylish package. The details of the moving mechanical gears and parts to the old time amusement park music, Bartlow’s Dread Machine is a refreshing entry in the gaming market place. This game is simple, but also throws you into the gauntlet which puts a smile on your face when you make it out.

I’m generally not a fan of Early Access, so this was the first time I’d ever bought a game early. From the second I saw a trailer, I knew I had to have it. Months ago, I enjoyed the first few worlds. Today, there’s some good and bad within the full product. There are a few difficulty spikes in the later half of the game, and the unfavorable lives system causes some frustration. And sometimes the environments are a bit too dark to really get a good grip on things. But outside of those few gripes, this is a twin stick shooter unlike any other I’ve ever played. The one hundred year old style is really cool, reminding me a lot of pinball. The way the levels shift, the way everything is attached to metal rods, and the way the characters automate are all really delightful. Going all-in on that presentation reminds me a lot of Puppeteer (PS3) which I find is extremely underrated. There’s a lot of love that went into fully realizing what a turn-of-the-20th-century game would look, sound, and feel like. I wasn’t initially sure how the traversal would feel, but moving around the slotted tracks as you blast the various types of foes is both satisfying and fun. Fans of serviceable gameplay, who really love games with rich, unique atmospheres should find plenty to enjoy.

Mad Devils

Mad Devils

I’ve had an awesome time playing Mad Devils so far! The plot is really interesting and I can’t wait to restart in Inferno Mode. My favourite characters are Chester and Harris so far, and the boss fights are brutal. If you’re a fan of Diablo 3 or Dark Souls, this game definitely scratches that itch. Haven’t hit any bugs so far. Just remember you can use your Blood Shards and XP points in the Pause Menu to upgrade your characters, it’s a lifesaver!

This indie developed game has very faded washed out graphics, repetitive dull combat, no mini-map to show where you are going, no way to rotate the camera, and frame rate issues as well. Camera movement is also sluggish and stuttery, most likely due to the crap Unity engine the game runs on. The game also flashes to the desktop briefly every time a new level is loaded. Your character also seems to get stuck on everything in your path and every level looks the same, taking place mostly in outdoor fields surrounded by lava. A similar game that is MUCH better is Victor Vran. I would much rather play Victor Vran than this game any day.

Dawn at my Neighbourhood

Dawn at my Neighbourhood

Okay, so… I’m a huge fan of “Zombies Ate My Neighbors”. When a friend of mine recommended this game to me, I was surprised and kind of skeptical at first, but…

Ever since I got this game, it not just confirmed my expectations(it IS a reimagining of the original game, with upgrades - Like gun refilling logic, an ACTUAL time frame for you to save your friends if they ever get attacked in first place, which the original sort of lacked, and added interactivity with the environment - Be it for fun, or for useful purposes(the books in the first stage tell a lot).), but took it a notch further - Along with escorting the victims into safespots, sometimes having to sacrifice your safety to get some safe, there IS a mission system, sometimes with extras. And don’t get me started on how it mingles the Old and New icons of horror together(One tip: Stage 3).

Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!

Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!!

CSD2 is enjoyable as a fast-paced cooking sim game, but it lacks the focus, charm and elegance of the original.

I’m left with the impression that too much focus was put into the restaurant customization and the breadth of food options available, at the expense of honing the experience and flow of the game.

The Good:

The gameplay core of fast-tapping gameplay is altered a bit with a new page system for ingredient management, and somewhat more emphasis on putting things together in stages. It also adds Holding Stations, a new element of play which has become a core focus of the sequel and offers a new dimension of time management which is mandatory for some foods, optional for others, and unavailable for the rest. Drinks become maintenance chores rather than serving orders, and drink+side+perfect gets you a bonus.

Real player with 133.6 hrs in game

I was a huge fan of the original CSD game and I’m disappointed to say the second one just doesn’t live up to the first despite some good new features.

The Good:

  • The game still fundamentally plays to the system of “everything’s chaotically messy and you’re trying to solve orders as fast as you can”, which is a fun game mechanic even if it can be stressful. Unfortunately a bit part of the “run your own restaurant simulator” is the progression, which isn’t great and I’ll be coming to later.
