Mystery Tales: Master of Puppets Collector’s Edition

Mystery Tales: Master of Puppets Collector’s Edition

I spent a little over 3 hours going through the main and bonus content, So, based on how much these sell for on Steam as opposed to Google Play, it’s way over-priced for the amount of content.

This one was also very simple and repetitive with the “puzzles”.

That being said, it was still fun and overall enjoyable to play, but it’s not worth more than a few bucks, IMO, based on other games of this type.

Game is buggy. I got to the point in the doll house to replace the gauges and scene went back to the start when Miranda was sent to the doll house. I then was unable to proceed. Also the game’s rendering went all crazy. Only the hot spots for actions were visible, the rest of each scene was whited out. Anyway getting a refund, this game is trash. Bugs like this shouldn’t happen with proper testing. I ran into similar bugs with other Domini games. So, I’m of the opinion that the Domini developers are incompetent.

Snowdome

Note: I received a Steam key to help with alpha testing although I had no involvement with the development.

Snowdome is a kinetic visual novel developed by Lunatic Works and published by Lunatic Works and Kikai Digital. You take on the role of Tan Yan, a young adult who works as a convenience store clerk in the city. He lives his life day-to-day, feeling unappreciated and that life will never change. He moved away from the country, as he didn’t want to become a farmer like his parents before him. One day, when Tan Yan decides to take a walk on the beach (because his TV is broken, so he can’t watch his favorite show), he encounters a teenage girl. She makes him an intriguing offer. Help me save the world. This piques Tan Yan’s interest and thus, his adventure begins. As this is a kinetic novel, I’ll stop my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers. ^^

This was my first kinetic novel, no choices to make, just read and think about some of the subjects that are thrown up in the story. The reader can make their own mind about how deep or how seriously they want to take this. I found it easy to get involved with the characters, to understand the frustrations of trying to earn a living in a city where everyone lives the same boring life-style and where young people and their parents do not understand one another. The protagonist, a reluctant hero, goes for a walk and meets a young girl one summer’s night when his tv breaks down, and thats when it all starts as he has to grow up and make life decisions that have consequences not just for himself, but other people. I can’t say more without giving away the plot.

Solo Fox

Solo Fox

Indie platformer with very nice and high quality graphics. The main character is a fox who overcomes obstacles and fights with other animals. There were no bugs in the game. Overall I recommend for a purchase.

A cool 2D platformer that tells us the story of a fox named Solo, in which we, playing as a fox, are forced to leave our home because the rains have dragged on and life has become unbearable.

The game has a pleasant musical accompaniment, as well as a story

Warning This game as intense amount of screen shaking and may effect those who are sensitive to motion sickness*

Monster Seek (Ep.1) has wonderful graphics and music with simplistic (non complicated) controls. You character looks like a cross between Dr. Light (megaman) and George Lucas (Star Wars) which got me invested from the first moment I saw the game.

Retention: A Love Story

Retention: A Love Story

From a playability perspective Retention: A Love Story would have more enjoyable if the development team stripped away some of the puzzles in favor of a simpler more story driven game. Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and other forms of cognitive decay are excellent themes to explore because most of us have seen someone we love impacted. Last year 3-Fold Games explored similar themes in Before I Forget and to many, it was one of the more emotionally moving titles released that year. Retention does an excellent job making interesting stylization choices and the voice acting is fairly decent. Those two aspects prove to me that if some of the more buggier aspects of the game were removed there was potential for this to be more dynamic than the finished product.

Free game made by students, but I cannot recommend it. It definitely needed way more polish than it got, with clunky controls and so many bugs. Puzzles are basic but annoying and will often break, and there are no actual “saves”, just checkpoints, that don’t persist after exiting the game. There are at least 2 game breaking bugs, where the only fix is to close the game and start all over again, and after the second one I just couldn’t force myself to get through it again for the story, which just feels miserable even without the Alzheimer’s angle they’re going for.

Angelo and Deemon: One Hell of a Quest

Angelo and Deemon: One Hell of a Quest

This game had been on my radar for a long time but bad reviews always put me off. I finally saw it on sale for just over €2 and bought it.

The dialogues are a bit simplistic but there are a couple of funny moments. The game flows well, the in-game help is good (no need to look for walkthroughs) and, thanks to the nice voice acting, the two and a half hours or so are worth the full price of the game.

Although the game is short, there is never the impression of seeing something cut or rushed. Everything is very clean, without bugs. Most of the game follows a sharable logic, except for a couple of points where you have to read the mind of the developers. Points that we can solve thanks to the (aforementioned) in-game help.

Very nice, but somewhat flawed game.

Pros:

  • Artwork. It’s top-notch. Splendid characters on splendid backgrounds. Animation is somewhat simplistic, but nice nonetheless.

  • Voice acting. Very good for an indie game. Even the Ben’s voice matches the original perfectly.

  • Puzzles. Very good. Challenging enough to please a seasoned adventure gamer. Rare find nowadays.

  • Plot. It’s OK. Good pace, nice ideas.

Neutral:

  • Writing. Some characters and their stories aren’t consistent enough. Some are plain silly.

This is a very moving visual novel that does an excellent job of creating small vignettes, introducing the player to many characters. I really felt how they emphasized the weight of a human life, how much was lost in this horrible attack. It’s very short; I recommend you spend half an hour to play.

You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/nwsQAz496Ck

This is a story-driven shooter set in Victorian England. Some plague is happening and the city is quarantined. It’s a real cheap price for only $6 USD, but there is a reason for that. It’s in Early Access and well, it’s very unpolished.

I would have loved to have done a full review for this game. Unfortunately, I ran into too many bugs. My whole experience ended when I encountered a game-breaking bug that stopped my progress about 20 minutes into the game. I tried picking up a book to place it in the correct order, but the book would disappear. There’s no inventory system. I tried seeing if the book would spawn back when I clicked on the place to place the book, but nothing happened. You need to place the books to get a key to open a door to be able to progress.
